I bought glasses from them last time and must say they provided awful customer service.

@catbertthegreat: The lenses broke during their initial adjustment. I asked for a refund - as is offered on their website, and as they should hot have broken immediately - and they insisted several times that I accept the equivalent to a store credit to go towards another pair, which I didn't want. It went back and forth so many times that had they not finally honored their posted refund policy, I would have disputed the charge with my card issuer.

Ahhh... Thank you for giving me another opportunity to vent.

Edit: ...and I do take good care of my glasses - I'm the kind of guy who always has a pocket full of individually-wrapped, pre-moistened lens cleaning wipes. I wasn't overly rough or reckless with them.

I bought a pair of sunglasses. I didn't like my choice of frames, sunglasses should be bigger than what I chose, but the prescription was filled fine, communication with them very good. I will order from them again, very good value, shipping a little slow because I think it ships from Taiwan.

My girlfriend and I each ordered 4 pairs of glasses from them the last time this deal was up. By and large, we were THRILLED with the glasses. My girlfriend had a pair that was too small for her eyes -- but that's mostly because she didn't measure her old glasses to get a frame of reference (I did).

In contrast to the above comment, I found customer service to be extremely responsive. My girlfriend and I had some issues with getting our prescriptions from our eye doctor and we traded no less than 8 or 9 emails with customer service - they were nothing but helpful.

Also, the deal doesn't mention -- last time, the code was also good for $2 off of the rimless glasses they sell (those grames are regularly $14.99 -- $12.99 with the coupon (plus $5 shipping per pair.

Of note, ZenniOptical.com has frames that regularly start at $8 with the prescription and they have some cool add-on options like fashion tints. However, GlassesUnlimited has MANY more frame options at more than 1700.
G'luck

I should add that the problem with the eye doctor was that we didn't have all of the correct information the day we ordered the glasses, but we didn't want to miss the Woot coupon.....so we ordered with the coupon and we had to trade emails for the next couple of days before we had the correct information -- they were great to us.

bought 2 pair last time offered. i think they were delivered within 2 weeks. very pleased with quality. just be sure and try and take measurements off of glasses on hand for comparison as one of the pairs i ordered was a little smaller than i would have preferred. overall good experience for not being able to try on first.

I love my glasses that I purchased from this site. It was the first time there was ever a woot code and I needed new glasses, so I tried it. I did a rough measurement and my glasses were great. I really love how they look and how they look on me. A few weeks later, my sister also ordered two pairs from them. They arrived find and within 2 weeks and with no scuffs or scratches either.

So tl;dr
Ordered 3 pairs, they were cheap and fine, but you'd never guess they were under $20. I seriously got lots of compliments and questions on how I got them online and just opened up a new way of purchasing glasses to my friends and family.

vote-for2vote-against

I spent over 300 on my previous pair of transitions single vision glasses, and just bought new progressive lenses at 350+, so I needed some basic cheap sunglasses. For less than $20 I'm hoping these work out well 'cause if so I will order more from them, lenscrafters are just too expensive.

vote-for3vote-against

I ordered from them recently on 2/6. Received on 3/2. Wish I had opted for the thinner lenses (which cost extra). I got my first pair of rimless and they are so thick looking from the side. I guess I'll just look nerdier! My prescription is -5.00 in each eye by the way.

Came with a dark navy, cheap-feeling hard case with fake alligator skin texture and a keychain screw tool which I'm sure will come in handy at some point.

wish i could grab a pair to spare, but after 2 years you apparently need another eye exam and they wont let me know what my script was... (sigh) maybe next time :D

vote-for3vote-against

@tkking: If you paid the bill for your eye doc visit, that means you paid for the prescription. They can't tell you that you can't have something you paid for. They want to get you in there so they can try to sell you glasses at their huge mark-up price. Even if you had to pay for a new exam/script first, it would still be cheaper to buy these. I have vision insurance but my doc charges so much for glasses that I can always get them cheaper elsewhere without insurance than I can get his with insurance, so I let the insurance pay him for the exam and I walk out the door with prescription in hand.
All that being said though, after two years you probably do need a new exam.

Question - my son wants glasses but has a contacts prescription, can they make glasses from it? He's worn contacts for years.

vote-for2vote-against

if I was looking to pick up some budget specs, I would check out www.zennioptical.com, they're super cheap, and I've heard good things about customer service. I think I'm going to order a pair of "buddy hollys" from there pretty soon...

vote-for3vote-against

@klutzyruth: My understanding is that a contacts prescription is different from a regular glasses one. Something about the distance of the corrective lens from your eye. I remember wanting to do the opposite (had glasses, wanted contacts) and they insisted on a new contacts specific prescription.

I got a pair last time this deal was up and figured for $10, a spare pair sounded great. I must admit, I like the frames I got and overall I'm happy with them,. Construction was a bit on the cheap side but I paid $10, so I can't really complain. I was wondering about the construction quality of the lenses. I was wearing my lenscrafter frames (about $300) and when I put the Glasses Unlimited frames on (same prescription), I experienced a headache and that feeling you get when your get a new stronger prescription and you have mild field of vision warping and need to adjust to it. I have since gotten used to them but was wondering if others had experienced the same thing. I would have thought with the same prescription it wouldn't be an issue.

We ordered four pair last time. All four were progressive bifocals. Their web site has an interesting facility where you can upload a picture and then virtually try on the frames. We chose our frames and entered our prescriptions. I got an almost immediate e-mail from them, and could track the progress on their web site. They were made quickly and shipped. Unfortunately, they were mailed, probably from Hong Kong, and it took two weeks for them to arrive. My two pair are incredibly cheap, and I am constantly manipulating them to see. My wife refuses to even wear hers. I tried to bend them a little to lower the lens, but it didn't help. I suppose if you want a cheap pair of single vision glasses, these would be worth it. Otherwise, there are better places to get glasses than these guys.

I've gotten a few pairs from Zennioptical and I love them. It's almost kind of depressing, because they almost look like the same quality as the pair I paid $300 for last year :S (before I discovered Zenni). Their customer service is wonderful and it takes maybe 2 weeks to make them and send them to you. Love love love them.

vote-for6vote-against

Absolute worst place! I've placed two orders, both took 3+ weeks to arrive, there is no email confirming shipment, and no tracking number available. First order I got was OK, but the second order was not. I received someone else's prescription. I don't even know how that could happen, since I uploaded my prescription. Sure enough, somebody else's was in my file. After waiting 3 weeks to get them, I was not amused. Contacting them is a joke. I truly believe there are only 2 people that work at this place, I've never had any contact with anyone other than 'Mike' or 'Sam'. They were reluctant to give me money back and instead pushed for a replacement order. I said OK, but only if it was rushed, since they screwed up. They assured me it would be rushed. Guess what? Three weeks later I finally got them. The prescription is still not right, and now I have to pay to send them back. Tried to dispute with PayPal, they sided with them since the item was 'shipped'. Not happy!!!

I ordered a pair from the last deal, I didn't have any major issues, the frames are kinda cheaply made, but again for the price you can't complain. Another issue I had was one of the nose things fell off, but it came with 2 extras, but there arose another problem, i couldn't get any glasses screws to fit it, they were all too big but super glue worked fine!

Another gripe is I was hoping to order another pair after I got these to check the quality, but the frames I wanted were sold out, no info if they're gonna get them back or not, but probably not. But I guess that's not really their fault I guess. I also noticed at the time some of the other frames were selling out within a few days, maybe it was all because of the deals.woot surge?

Another pleased user of Zennioptical.com. Great quality, cheap as all get out, and the customer service is good. It's about a two week turn-around.

The deal above doesn't look bad.

vote-for1vote-against

Wow i have never seen glasses this cheap!!! Great deal!!!

vote-for2vote-against

If you have prism correction, neither glassesunlimited.com nor zennioptical.com will fill the prescription. No cheap glasses for me.

vote-for4vote-against

I'm another fan of zenni-optical.com, and here's my input on that sight: The glasses aren't as nice as the ones that i've bought from lens crafters for $250+, but I've spent about $70 on 4 pair, and I'm pretty pleased with them. The major drawback to buying glasses online is getting them to fit your face once you get them. Also- you want to order several pair at a time, as it does take about 2 weeks to get them (plus free case & microfiber cleaning cloth). Since you don't get to see how they look on your face, you'll want another option if they're not what you had expected. I got one pair that was a little "off", and i took a pic & asked them for new frames- they sent them to me without a hitch.
SHORT SUMMARY: I can't vouch for this woot deal, but I do highly recommend zenni-optical.com. You can get multiple options and you end up with specs that are no more than $50, plus they sell Rx goggles

vote-for3vote-against

I've been using 39dollarglasses.com and am pleased with the quality. I have two pairs, one regular and one "transitions" lens and both were checked and verified by my eye doctor as being the proper prescription and PD for said prescription. It is a little more expensive (as you would expect, most pairs are $39) than some of the online eye places, but the company is based in NY, the customer service is good and I was even able to get reimbursed by my flexible spending health plan for them. I may try Zenni next just to get some variety.

vote-for2vote-against

Price starts at $10 but skyrockets for people like me with bad eyes. Minimum extra cost for me with -9.00 prescription was $20 and went up rapidly from there depending on lens options (and to be clear, that was for single-vision clear lenses, nothing fancy). If your eyes aren't that bad, it's a good deal. For me, the price came out about the same as I've paid elsewhere.

Like the person above, I've had excellent service for several years now from 39DollarGlasses.com. Looking forward to trying Zenni, however. Options are good!

vote-for2vote-against

Wow -- maybe I'm just lucky. Their site says it takes 7-10 days. My girlfriend's glasses came in exactly 7 days and mine in exactly 10. I thought it odd that we both had ours delivered to the same address (here in New York) and they came a few days apart. It definitely wasn't 2 or 3 weeks for us. I have been meaning to order a couple of pairs from ZenniOptical as well to compare the quality. I'll have to try that today after I potentially order more from these guys.

I will say that I did get a bit of a headahce from one pair, but I knew I was pushing the limits with how small those lenses were. The other three pairs I got were fine. I got 4 pairs (including one with rimless frames that costed a bit more) for less than the 1 pair I thought I had gotten a steal on from my eye doctor at $89. I think my 4 pairs came to $62 when all was said and done. As others have mentioned, they definitely feel a little thin - but they look great.

Btw-the code works for multiple pairs -$2off/ea

vote-for1vote-against

Klutzyruth, no, a contact lens prescription isn't the same as a glasses one. You'll need to get a glasses prescription from your eye doctor. I wondered the same thing awhile back, but the doc said no.

vote-for2vote-against

I am wearing a pair bought during the last time this was offered and I loved them so much I bought another. I have also purchased from Zenni, who had much faster shipping, but much smaller selection. Also, Zenni will ship the entire order for one fee, whereas Glasses Unlimited wanted to charge per pair - which is why I only ordered one the first time. I think that Glasses Unlimited has better quality frames. Prescriptions from both were spot on. I wish both had a better selection of smaller frames (I can actually where kids) but neither has a good selection of children's frames.

@klutzyruth: and the people saying that you need a "glasses prescription"

I've worn contacts for the last 10 years, and got in on this deal when it last showed up on deals.woot. I copied the prescription off of my lens boxes. The only information missing was the pupil distance, which matters in glasses so they know how far to space out the eyes so the lenses are centered. Contacts obviously don't have this problem. So I measured my own pupil distance in the mirror and typed it in the box.

I am currently wearing the glasses, and can see with them as good as I ever did with contacts. I would see no reason that glasses or contacts would need a different prescription.

vote-for1vote-against

My contact lens prescription didn't have the "Cylander" and "Axis" information from my glasses prescription. It also didn't have the pupil distance....which was where I had my problem. My eye doctor told me they would put it on the prescription.....and then they didn't......and then they said that it's not part of the prescription and that they don't record it anywhere. They claimed that the optician making my glasses should take their own measurement (they tried to strongly discourage me from buying online). I should have just measured it myself with the instructions from the website from the beginning.

Someone mentioned that you paid for the prescription and the doctor has to give it to you. Not entirely true. If you had surgery 10 years ago, the doctor doesn't have to give you another prescription for pain pills. Prescriptions are time-sensitive. Most are good for a year. During that year, they have to give it to you. After that, they do not.

vote-for2vote-against

@parachute07: They are legally obligated to give you a copy of your medical records, and that information would be in your records. Prescription scribbled on a pad? Not per se, but it's not the same as asking for more happy pills a decade later.

Bought a pair about a month ago and highly recommend them!!!!!

Delivery was about 10 days or two weeks. Cost was around $17 with shipping

The vision is as clear with these as with my $250 glasses

The frames have a little bit more play at the hinges than my $250 glasses but for $17 I am very happy!!!!

Thanks smasumur & kacia & bittermang. I've saved these sites anyways for future use.

http://glassyeyes.blogspot.com/ has a lot of links, a lot of coupons, and help with determining how best to go about ordering prescription eyeglasses online. some of the sites are hit-or-miss, so buyer beware I suppose. but they provide nice alternatives to the $300 or so you'll pay at most B&M shops.

Has anyone figured out how to do this to get glasses with no prescription? I love wearing glasses, but don't have a prescription to figure out sizes.

vote-for1vote-against

It's not quite like you can lift a magnifying glass to your eye and guess at what your prescription should be....you have to at least know the numbers . . .

vote-for2vote-against

I received my prescription sunglasses after about 3 weeks and I'm very pleased with them. Frames fit perfectly and are comfortable and cute. Now I'm willing to try for the more expensive glasses. :)
