i bought this and it came out to £30.00 ($47.14 USD). not bad for 8 blu-rays.

vote-for4vote-against

Does region free mean it works in the US? On my PS3?

vote-for2vote-against

Considering the new movie will come out with a price tag of around 30 bucks, this seems like a very good deal for people who are into the series.

vote-for1vote-against

It's not a discount you're getting. It's that amazon.co.uk automatically includes the VAT in the list price and takes it out once it knows you're purchasing from a non-EU country.

vote-for1vote-against

@cargobroombroom @carl669: Yes, it works region-free in any blu-ray player you'd like. I bought the 7-movie version of the same set for my girlfriend last year, also from amazon.co.uk. She has had no problems running them.

vote-for7vote-against

This is actually better than the US-released blu-rays; the stone in the first movie is called the Philosopher's Stone as the author originally intended, not the Sorcerer's stone.

No idea why they would make such a silly change for the US release; maybe they think Americans aren't familiar with the legend of the Philosophers stone, that predates these books by centuries.

vote-for1vote-against

Is this worth ordering from the UK or can I get it in the US? Although I would love to get the "Philosophers Stone". How long would shipping take?

vote-for1vote-against

@joker2k3: also would like to know what it comes to in the USA (if I can order it), especially since they don't have a pre-order for it on US amazon

vote-for3vote-against

@joker2k3: If you search for the complete collection on the US Amazon, it's $97!!! So I went ahead and ordered mine from the UK. $50 cheaper? Yessir!!!

vote-for1vote-against

In for 1, plus what a great excuse to buy British TV shows. :)

vote-for2vote-against

@joker2k3: when i checked out, it said shipping takes 6-10 days.

there probably will be a deal for the U.S. as well at some point. since this is a pre-order though, if the US deal is better, i can always cancel this order.

vote-for-1vote-against

Went with this one instead:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Harry-Potter-Complete-Collection-Numbered/dp/B005GTJEZC/ref=sr_1_6?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1316574168&sr=1-6

Yeah it's double the price but shipping is still just around $5 USD and at around $90 for the set it's close to what @crimsontidejosh found it on the US site for.

vote-for2vote-against

In for one. I bought Band of Brothers (region free) from the Amazon.co.uk site and it's worked in my blu-ray player without any issues. Can't attest to a PS3, but as far as I'm concerned, it's a non-issue.

vote-for2vote-against

I'm in. Hope it doesn't get held up in shipping though. No Prime for co.uk also kinda stinks but can't beat the price.

vote-for2vote-against

I'm in. That is an awesome deal, gonna have to wait until December...='(

vote-for2vote-against

Just got this, for me it came out to 30 euros shipped or about 42 bucks. Pretty great deal I must say.

vote-for1vote-against

So, "region free"... it's my understanding that something can be "region free", but PAL instead of NTSC, which would be a problem.

Is that going to be a concern here, where my player can PLAY it but my TV can't DISPLAY it?

vote-for6vote-against

@anillag

NTSC and PAL are obsolete when it comes to blurays. Those only pertain to regular DVD discs. As long as the bluray discs are region free it will play just fine.

On a side note, I have ordered almost all of my movie boxsets and tv collections from amazon.co.uk and they have always arrived in about a weeks time.

vote-for3vote-against

Bought. Looks like my fiancee is getting what she wanted for Christmas.

vote-for2vote-against

@duken58

Thanks, boss. Didn't realize they did away with those. In for 1.

vote-for2vote-against

Went in for 1 myself...will have to start ordering boxsets from the UK more often.

vote-for2vote-against

i just ordered the Hanna Steelbook from amazon.co.uk & it arrived fairly quickly, a little less than a week.

vote-for2vote-against

Bought years 1-6 on bluray from amazon uk and had no problems what so ever. A great purchase for the price. And I bought it with 2 less movies(I think) for the same price a year ago. Shipping was about a week if I remember correctly.

vote-for-3vote-against

Just checked this out now and it is up to 58.91 EUR which is 80.71 USD.

vote-for1vote-against

it is still 30 £ for me, which will come out to about $47 as shown above.

vote-for1vote-against

As long as they're legit and not some shady bootlegs, this is a great deal. Ordered the set for the wife, since she loves it so much. Thanks for making someone's birthday extra special this year.

vote-for1vote-against

just bought it, it said after shipping and everything 30 £.. so 47.00 a great price.. for 8 blu rays..

vote-for2vote-against

Do both of these version include the special Bluray 3D versions of Deathly Hallows Part 1 & 2, the US version is going to include those. Even though part 1 was not released in 3D the conversion was done and they are going to include it. Also be aware the US release date is Nov 11th, so you may get it sooner in the US.

Other than the philosopher / sorcerer difference, are there any other changes in text / speech?

vote-for-4vote-against

I flagged every 'review' of this product. This seems like a great deal. To the point that it doesn't seem real. I am curious if the discs will be sub-par compared to other releases.

It is very frustrating when people review a unreleased item because they know they will 'like it.'

There is an entire discussion section at the bottom for those creaming their pants about this box set. I suggest others flag and downvote the posted reviews.

vote-for1vote-against

Actually, not that it is relevant here, but the whole PAL vs NTSC thing hasn't been an issue since the VHS days when the recorded signals were analogue.

As long as your DVD player is region free, the PAL/NTSC thing shouldn't hold you back....

vote-for1vote-against

i always hated that they didn't use the philosophers stone in the american release. i'd love to get this but the price seems so good i feel a little wary.

vote-for4vote-against

I ordered the Alien Anthology from the UK Amazon for half the price of the US Amazon. The box set came in about 7 business days and the quality was the same as the box set purchased in the US. I don't know why people keep thinking these will be bootlegged or crappy copies. This is coming from Amazon, not a third party site.

Thanks for the post!

vote-for1vote-against

@e17nel: i just assume England is holding a grudge from when we trounced them back in the day, and their revenge will take the form of sub par copies of Harry Potter blu rays. whats so ridiculous about that?

vote-for1vote-against

@lncherdawg20: add the item to your cart. proceed to checkout. a price of £26.92 should show up. can't remember exactly where though. then another few bucks for shipping brings the price to £30

vote-for-10vote-against

crazy Brits. in the process of checking out, i saw a button that usually says "ship to this address". but in the UK version it said "dispatch to this address". needles to say i had no idea what that meant. so i looked up an American to English dictionary. apparently the English word "dispatch" roughly translates to "send" in American. just a heads up

vote-for2vote-against

@ndcouch: I bought Planet Earth (the complete series) on BR from amazon.co.uk a number months back. It was just about half the price of the US amazon site and showed up in about a week. It's Amazon, just from across the pond :)

vote-for1vote-against

Sweet deal. Got mine! Thanks so much :)

vote-for2vote-against

In regard the Sorcerer's vs Philosopher's Stone; I've purchased several DVD's from Amazon UK because the "foreign" version was better than the NA version. Usually better sound and/or dialog. I wonder why every one thinks Americans have lousy taste. Then there are foreign DVD sets I've purchased because they were never released in NA. Granted you'll need a region free player to play them but in this day and age that shouldn't be a problem. A lot of players have a secret code you enter to make them region free. Google about...

vote-for-1vote-against

@tomh922: you wonder why people think Americans have bad taste? lets see....

Jersey Shore
Donald Trump
Dodge/Chrystler
Transformers
Ed Hardy
Octomom
Dr. Phil
Justin Bieber
Kim Kardashian

the list is endless

vote-for-3vote-against

@jha1223: except for the strange foreign language they use and the fact they use some strange currency shaped like an "L" with a line through it, when everybody knows your money should look like an S with a line through it

vote-for2vote-against

@lncherdawg20: They're not going to change a pre-order price, at least not to increase it.
