@handyguy: You obviously do not understand woot, or humor, for that matter. Do you keep up with news? I doubt it, or you would have gotten the joke at the end about Ted Nugent.

I bet your 50 friends (I doubt you have any) are telling you they aren't buying, just as they click I want one three times, just like me....

Lighten up, man, it is a JOKE!

vote-for15vote-against

The compound has become my EDC knife since I snagged one from the last wootoff, that is the 3rd of these Kershaw knives I have gotten here for this price, and I am tempted to buy more!

vote-for15vote-against

I bought a Kershaw Tremor 1950 during the last offering (http://www.woot.com/Forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=4855245) and am very happy with the quality.

It's the same 8CR13MOV stainless steel (made in China) as these, which isn't ultra-high quality, but it's very good, especially at this price.

I'm definitely buying another tonight.

@nvaine: YUP, as you can see handyguy jumped right on it. But these people are so blindly dedicated to the dear leader that to even joke in a manner that questions their beliefs sets them off...

vote-for12vote-against

The assisted opening mechanism on these knives is very smooth and easy to operate, and the knife feels tremendously well-built. Definitely well worth the price.

vote-for11vote-against

I invoke Poe's Law on that description.

vote-for10vote-against

Great blade! Tempted to buy yet another knife...

vote-for10vote-against

I rocked the Compound sans serration as an EDC for about 2 months before my hip ran into something; tore the cheap little screws that hold the clip on right out. Stripped the holes.

Great blade though, I don't use it as my EDC any longer as I like a clip, but like I said, blade kept its edge well in the time I did use it.

vote-for10vote-against

@djkid1974: Only differences are blade length, clip, and blade shape. Asset's blade seems to have a nicer belly. I'd go with that if you were to absolutely grab one of these. Clip on the Asset seems more sturdy as well (and it's black!).

Another note of caution, I would adjust the clips to carry these knives tip up. It's safer and gives you faster deployment(IMO). In the picture, the clips are orientated for tip-down carry.

vote-for10vote-against

@handyguy: 1st day on woot? Sense of humor required.

vote-for8vote-against

I am in for only one of them. Here is why.
IMPORTANT buying advice I have had many knifes Gerber etc. They all fail in one department the clip that holds them inside of your pants or jeans eventually gets hung up on something. Your passing a steel pipe shaped just the right way and it holds tight, tearing your knife and clip apart.

If you look at the two models one "Asset 1930ST" has a clip which is large and sturdy. The second model's clip is half the size and looks cheap. MY ADVICE IS TO ONLY BUY THE ASSET 1930ST.

Woot on brother and sisters!

Asset 1930ST Slightly Opened

@aznvamp: Not quite right. California has no law against folding knives of any length, but certain cities do. Good rundown on the laws here: http://zknives.com/knives/articles/law/caknifelaws.shtml

vote-for8vote-against

@aznvamp: Agreed. I bought the last batch of Kershaw folders and just couldn't get used to turning the knife around in my hand to hit the flipper. To change these to tip up carry, which presents the flipper to your index finger on extracting it from your pocket, you just move the pocket clip to the other end of the handle; there's even predrilled holes in the scales for that purpose.

Great knives, very happy with mine.

vote-for6vote-against

@djkid1974: look at my post above yours. One has a small clip to hold knife in your pants, the other one has a better and bigger clip. Also the better one Asset 1930t has texture on the knife so your hand will not slip. I just bought one of those.

vote-for5vote-against

Been looking a while to pick up a knife; waiting for a price I won't be so afraid of losing that I never carry it. Warranty sold me on one of each.

vote-for5vote-against

I bought these knives from a previous woot. Its an EDC with no problems so far. The clips are strong, blade stays sharp, and nice handles. I just bought 3 more as gifts. They are made in China though.

vote-for5vote-against

@aznvamp: I picked up an Asset from the last offering like many others, and I've always disliked the orientation of the clip. I never noticed that I could reverse the clip. Nice!

vote-for5vote-against

@bneal123: I don't think what you said is correct. A quick check of the Kershaw website's warranty page shows no such restriction. Check for yourself here:

http://www.kershawknives.com/warranty.php?brand=kershaw

Looks to me that they are covered under the standard Kershaw warranty.

vote-for5vote-against

The Compound quickly became my every day carry. The assisted opening mechanism is out of sight, man. The carry clip is tight enough to work upside down on a belt or right in the pocket. Shaving sharp! I have purchased 4 as gifts.

vote-for4vote-against

Keep it up woot. You're almost there ;)

vote-for4vote-against

I bought the Burst and love it.

vote-for4vote-against

The blade shapes are different, too. The left hand knife has a nearly straight spine and large belly, the right knife looks more like a spear point.

vote-for4vote-against

I've got the non-serrated versions of both of these knives and love them. I'm in for both of these. This is about half the price you'd have to pay on other web sites.

vote-for4vote-against

Great deal with my jumbo woot coupon. Was hoping to use it before it expired. $12.99 shipped...now that's pretty hard to beat.

@robertb:
Question: Is it possible to sharpen Serrated knives
Yes, but not all of them.I will explain

If they are ust a little dull you can strop the non beveled side (this will keep them very sharp) To do this take a piece of scrape leather and cover it with a fine abrasive (red or white rouge works well) Then strop the edge (like the barbers do with old time razors). Hold the blade flat against the leather as you do this. I make a strop stick by gluing a piece of leatehr onto a paint stirrer, and then imprenating it with an abrasive.

If the knife gets very dull then you can use a diamond rod sharpener like this
http://lansky.com/index.php/products/folding-diamond-rat-tail/
for most serrated knives.

However some serrated knives have "reverse serrations" or a scalloped edge, the rat tail sharpener will not work on those. They must be sent back to teh factory. My experience with scalloped serrations have been uniformily negative, and I would try to avoid them. YMMV

vote-for4vote-against

@robertb: >Is there any way to sharpen a serrated blade?

Here is the easiest way I know to sharpen a Kershaw serrated blade:

1. Pack up knife and mail to Kershaw.
2. Kershaw will sharpen it for you, for free. And then mail it back to you at their expense.
3. Done.

vote-for3vote-against

In for 2, one of each! I'm excited to get my knife on!

vote-for3vote-against

I'd take my Kershaw Scallion over these two knives any day. Super responsive and perfect length. Longer blades tend to be more of a hassle to use percisely.

Heads up, these are not legal to carry in CA due to their length.

vote-for3vote-against

A little more detailed information on what @aznvamp stated. If the knife is completely concealed - carried in a pocket unexposed, the blade length must be under 3." As far as open carrying (at least part of the knife is exposed ie. clip), there is no blade length regulation sans San Francisco, Oakland, LA.

I agree with going with a Scallion or better yet a Kershaw Leek over either of the choices Woot has provided, but they are in a completely different category and price range. You could pick up 3 - 4 of these for the price of 1 Scallion. For $12.99 - you are getting China steel (meh at best) in an assisted knife (good), not too shabby if you ask me. By the way, don't expect the serrated edge to be of much use.

vote-for3vote-against

For the price these are great knives. I have 3 and got them all from woot. I'd be in for another 3 if I didn't already have too many knives.

vote-for3vote-against

For the price, especially if you're in for more than 1, these are good value. These average a bit over $20 retail. For assisted opening w/ decent steel. Now, these are not top end knives, but you get more than you are paying for. If you aren't serious about the quality of your knives, and just want a folding box cutter/just in case knife, you could do far worse. Don't bother w/ the serrated as you cannot put an edge back on easily.

vote-for3vote-against

these are the serrated versions of the same pair that was offered in the last wootoff...serrations make the best utility knives, sellout woot makes them a great value purchase...

i think i'll pair these up with my plain edge versions, just because of the value.

vote-for3vote-against

I'd much rather buy a knife made in the USA, but i'd much rather buy THESE knives from Woot... wait what?

Any way, got 2 of these (Tremor & Compound) from a Woot-off a couple months ago and have one in my back pocket right now! The assisted opening is very impressive, and has a great grip and texture too! My brother gave me a CRKT My Tighe with an assisted opening that i have abused for years, really great knife, but the Kershaw Tremor at $12.00 has become my favorite edc knife by far. You can put a razor edge on those suckers pretty easily, for the price the steel is still great! Just don't take a tree on with it, or a really stale piece of bread... I mean, it would cut the bread, im just not a fan of stale bread. Childhood trauma... don't ask.

Definitely letting the boys in my family know about this one!

I can always count on Woot to keep a smile on my face!!...hope my wife doesn't read this...

she just doesn't understand... jealousy.

crap, now she REALLY better not read this!

vote-for3vote-against

i am in for 3, i bought the compound a few months back and carry it everyday. So i wanted to take advantage of this deal before it really went away...

vote-for3vote-against

@mhmckee: (Where are the coupons) Woot will surprise you with $5 off coupons but to get them, you must contribute to the 'deals woot'...the more you contribute the more chance you have of snagging some coupons.

vote-for3vote-against

I used my free shipping coupon to make the deal even sweeter. Sold.

vote-for3vote-against

Bought a Kershaw Burst here at Woot a few months ago and I love it. Perfect everyday carry knife in terms of size, weight, apparent durability and edge.

And the Speed Safe design is pretty much the idea system for quick deployment.

Wish I'd bought two.

vote-for3vote-against

I have a couple of these knives. They work very well. I use them for hunting (skinning elk/deer etc.). They work great. Kershaw is a great brand and will hold the edge just right.

vote-for3vote-against

I'm a knife collector, and I know that Kershaw is one of the more respected knife makers, and makes GREAT knives.
That said, here's some info:Kershaw, like many knife manufacturers nowadays, has opted to have some,if not most,of their knives made in China,to save money,I'm sure. The parts are the same, and sometimes made elsewhere, like the USA or Japan,or even Germany, the knives are just put together in China.I have noticed that for the most part,Chinese made knives coming from respected companies like Kershaw have excellent quality,(especially lately)but if you're a purist, this will not matter,as hardcore collectors still want knives made in the USA,Germany,or Japan, which,by the way,are getting harder to find, and are getting more expensive.German made Pumas,Japanese made Seki's,and USA made Kershaws are sweet knives, but you will pay dearly for them!

vote-for3vote-against

Just got mine today. Once again, blazing fast shipping from Woot! I got the compound knife which is the one with the less aggressive handle. It has a very smooth assist mechanism and a very strong frame lock. My only concern is the tiny pocket clip. It looks like it belongs on a cheap keychain knife or something, I just don't think it fits right. But still, definitely worth the $20.

vote-for2vote-against

Wish they had the Tremor again. Might get the Compound this time

vote-for2vote-against

i picked up one last time. nice knife . good price.

vote-for2vote-against

can someone tell me what the difference is in the knives? I really don't see a whole lot of difference visually to a completely untrained and new eye.

vote-for2vote-against

Is there any way to sharpen a serrated blade? I know, it seems like a really basic question. My dad always had a nice collection of knives and real Arkansas whetstones... and wouldn't ever let me near either for fear I'd break something or cut myself. (The alarming lack of attention I paid when he'd attempt to show me anything probably didn't help either.)

vote-for2vote-against

I have 20 knives but no kershaw, so I'm in for one. Look nice for EDC

vote-for2vote-against

I'd dawdled too long on the last Kershaw deal, and wasn't able to get the ones I wanted. In for one of each, yay!

vote-for2vote-against

This is my first Kershaw.

In for one Asset.

Great deal w/$5. coupon !
