Mari0 - Super Mario Bros./Portal mashup for $0 + free shipping
Free on all computer systems (windows, mac, linux)
A complete from scratch recreation of Super Mario Bros. with a focus on perfectly imitating the feel the 1985 classic gave us. Then give Mario a portal gun, add puzzle game mechanics from Portal and there you go. And if that wasn't crazy enough, play 4-player coop, with everyone having their own Portal gun!
The konami code works in the game btw.
If someone downloads, please let me know the size of the download....I am "limited" by my satellite connection.
Thanks!
@morriea: Windows download is ~4.5MB
@morriea: Mac download is 7.1 MB
Okay, it's a cool game, but why is this a deal? This is just one of hundreds of free games available on the internet. It's free normally, so it's not discounted either.
So, is this safe? How is it?
@limehaven: Thank you.
@kllangellier: It's completely safe. I've been following the development on his blog and it has taken him a while to finally get it released, but it was worth the wait. It's really fun, but a little difficult to control on the keyboard. I'm going to try again later with my USB controller.
@thejerm333: Isn't it OK to let people know about things that are cool?....and in my opinion FREE is almost always a deal.
mixing Mario & Portal is most definitely something that is good to post.. even if it's free everyday, I didn't know it existed until now.
So definitely thanks for the post!
(Now if it was a "Lite" version, that would not be a good deal lol)
Free is a deal.
This is lame. The promo video is basically a video of someone playing a modded version of Mario, with added rock music background to help "wow" you into believing that this version is soooo rock n roll. Not worth the download.
Darn...my keyboard does not work with the game...poor Mario gets is unable to move and gets killed....time to read the forums (at least they are on the same link).
I think they need to update there servers, im downloading at 2,000 bytes /second
Their site is being hammered. I'll have to check back later
@cfalgas: It won't work for me. something about .dll :(
@kllangellier: Did you un-zip 1st?
The site wont load for me. Ill keep trying, cause this sounds epic.
So, after downloading, my verdict is this:
Awesome game. It's a shame I suck at it...
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! Ripped!
Linux huh, wonder if someone's going to get this running on a tablet anytime soon, my poor laptop doesn't see much action anymore.....
Will this work for XBox?
Great find! never would have seen this otherwise. Im a fan of the site from now on!
Really cool site. TU'ed - thanks!
nice!
Awesome!! Thanks!! My 9 year old video game freak will love it! (BTW, don't know what everybody else's deal was - I went right to the site and downloaded it with no problem. Took 12 seconds.)
@poolshark152006: I just clicked download and it was done, and my internet is horrible O.o
@morriea: Yeah, it says devIL.dll is missing, so it won't start. :-/ Ugg, figures it'd be me that has issues. I really wanted to try it since I have an Afterglow wired xbox360 controller, so I figured I'd see if it would work, since it's got a USB plug thing. sigh
[On topic] This sounds frickin awesome. Free games are always a good. Even better when they sound good. I give it a DL. [edit] What? OSX but no droid love? Boo Hisss![edit][on topic]
[off topic]@Killangellier You should buy a 360 wireless pc adapter. Mine was 10$ on amazon, it's non-OEM(HDE?) but works great. Just read the reviews for windows 7 as the included driver doesn't work. Nothing a few mouse clicks didn't fix in like 2 mins. pc adapter+xpadder(10$ or free if you know how/where to look) and any game can be played with 360 controller.[off topic]
Took about 5 seconds to d/load. Works just fine. Bored with it already.
@morriea: Make sure you're using the WASD keys to move around. The arrow keys won't work. Also, use your mouse right and left click for the portals.
@unif2: In theory. You've just got to program a PC emulator for the Xbox (or you could just play the game on the PC you'd need to use to develop said emulator). Alternatively, the source is provided. You could port the game to XNA. Keep us posted on which direction you decide to go, we're looking forward to your updates!
Cool game. Took me close to an hour to get the freakin' thing to run in Linux, since my package manager doesn't have the LOVE game engine in it and I had to install pre-reqs one at a time =(
Also, for anyone else following me, you need the 0.8.0 version, which is at the tip of their repository (not the 0.7.2 linked from their main page). I also had to install libtool, which their script never checked to see that I had.
Now they need to put Mario in the Portal world and let us play it. Two of my favorite games.
