My brother has the exact same charger. It works really well, but it likes to disable itsself when the battery is fully charged, so always make sure the button in the middle is lit green.

Will this work with a laptop with a 180W power adapter?

vote-for3vote-against

Does anyone know if this might be compatible with an Acer Iconia a500 tablet?

Doubting it, but hopeful.

vote-for5vote-against

@teenracer6: I got one of these on clearance at Lowe's sometime last year and mine does the same thing

I prefer the standard 90w iGo chargers that show up on here from time to time that are $17.99

vote-for4vote-against

I use one of these with a Dell laptop that requires a 90W power supply.

I have been using it for more than 6 months. The only time it shuts off is when I disconnect the laptop. I do like this feature and can recommend this to anyone with a compatible device.

vote-for4vote-against

@jbgroup1: from the product page:

Output power: 19 VDC; 90W

vote-for3vote-against

I also would like to know if this can be used for Acer a500

vote-for3vote-against

I understand the complaints from people who didnt realiz it stopped charging, however since I've also been told its harmful to the battery to always be on power I think I'll give it a shot. Plus when we leave cords in all the time they tend to get tripped on.

vote-for3vote-against

@jbgroup1: At 180 Watts, are you sure it's not an Xbox 360... or a desktop computer?

vote-for3vote-against

@tryzub: Yeah, I kinda figured it didn't. It's hard to find a replacement power cord for a 180W adapter.

vote-for5vote-against

@gopvifootball: It's a DTR laptop-MSI 1761. My toshiba is 120W but the MSI is 180W.

vote-for4vote-against

This looks very adaptable on the DC side, but what about the AC side? It's one thing to be 120/240 volt, and quite another to have the physical plugs to fit the electrical sockets in the U.S., Europe, Asia, the U.K. and elsewhere. I see no mention of this in any of the product descriptions I've found online.

vote-for5vote-against

Don't believe the claim that says they will send you a tip if it doesn't have any that fit your computer.

I ordered one of these and I did my research to make sure it would fit a Samsung. The details indicated that it would fit my computer.

I received the tips and none fitted my computer. I emailed the company THREE times. They told me that Samsung tips were in development and wouldn't be available for two months.

I emailed them again two months later. I didn't receive a reply nor did they ever send me the tips.

So, the charger had no use to me and the customer service was horrendous. I regret the purchase and I'd steer clear of ever buying an iGo product ever again.

vote-for3vote-against

A photograph of the included tips would have been ever so helpful.

vote-for3vote-against

@imscience: It is on the Woot page under additional photos. You have to follow the link.

vote-for3vote-against

@imscience: Did you click on the picture? There is a picture of all the tips included...

vote-for3vote-against

I'm curious if I could use this to power a firestore FS-100 HD recorder used for video recording.
I do know the tip inside diameter of the firestore post is 2.5mm but I'm not sure of the specs of
these tips offered. Anyone use this for powering other things besides laptops?

vote-for10vote-against

I have one of these, it works great! The only down side is there is a button you must push to get it working after you plug it in. If you forget to do that, then you won't get a charge. That's fairly easy to remember but my bigger challenge was my two year old boy who likes pushing buttons, especially this one as a light turns on and off as you push it so I was frequently surprised to find out my battery was out of juice after he had come by. :)

vote-for-12vote-against

you mean there are other laptops beside Apple? Who knew?

PASS

vote-for0vote-against

Dang, no, I didn't click on the picture, only the purchase link. Thanks, y'all. And no, the fuzzy, ill lit photo actually wasn't ever so helpful after all. Maybe the ID/OD/length specs, a list of which manufacturers/models, voltage ranges, polarity configuration is what would have been the clincher. And no, my Dell notebook probably can't use any of these.

vote-for1vote-against

@jbgroup1: Most likely would work to charge the laptop, but not necessarily while it is running. Might also run it with a full battery, not charging; the power supply that comes with has to do both. I have a kill-a-watt, so I can always estimate power usage on such items. It is good to have a universal supply, if only as a spare, but you need to dig deeper into your machine specs to determine if this would be suitable.

vote-for1vote-against

From the Web site:

USB: 5v/.76A

That means it doesn't provide enough juice for a tablet or some power-hungry phones. That's disappointing. If it had two amps on the USB port I would be in for one.

vote-for1vote-against

I have this adapter and I love it. I use it for my phone and computer and it does recognize when they need to be charged. I mostly picked it because my dogs and children were ripping the power cord out of my computer. I found with this adapter that ripping it out is impossible because it will come apart instead of damaging the port on the computer.

vote-for1vote-against

Here's a "tip" for y'all. Print out a listing of the tips that you get for the iGo. They don't come with an easy way to figure out which is which, and sometimes they stop producing one and you'll never figure out what the tip goes to otherwise. I've got the iGo travel and wall chargers and don't swap tips often, but they are still a solid product.

vote-for0vote-against

@craigthom: Thanks, you answered my question. I feel the same way. If it could charge my laptop and my nook tablet at the same time, I would be in for one.

vote-for0vote-against

Does anyone use this with regularity and success for FULLY charging a smartphone?

vote-for1vote-against

I'm thinking about getting this, but could someone clarify how the auto shutoff thing works? I understand that if I plug in an uncharged laptop, which is turned off, that it will charge and then the iGo automatically turns off. So my question is, what happens if I plug this into a laptop, which is being used? Will it keep on giving power to the laptop, even after the battery is fully charged? Or will it charge the laptop, then turn off, leaving the laptop to run on battery power? If so, that sounds pretty dumb (and I assume not good for the battery).

vote-for4vote-against

Just a comment on the Amazon customer claims that it "ruined" their battery. That is just coincidental. If this charger lets the battery run all the way down, then it didn't ruin the laptop battery. That is the recommended maintenance to a laptop battery to keep it charging the maximum charge. You don't have to do it every time obviously. Or maybe it just died. They do that. I work in corporate IT support and we get calls all the time that our users batteries no longer hold a charge. It was probably purely coincidental because the charger would have had to force the PC to allow the battery to be overcharged for it to die in that way and the chances of that are slim to none. Just putting this here if anybody reads those reviews and are wondering.

vote-for3vote-against

@winnike: I've had mine for a couple years and my battery hasn't suffered. The way it works is that if you push the button and get a green light it is charging the battery. Then, when it is full it turns off and you get a blinking green light. This means that when your battery goes below a certain level (I can't remember the level but it isn't a dead battery at all)it starts charging again. Similarly if you plug in your computer before the 'low battery' signal the charger starts up on its own in about a minute or two - no need to hit the button to on. It senses it all on its own. This reduces the constant charging of a battery, saves you money in electricity too. I like it.

When i plug it in at night, it charges and then shuts off completely so I'm not wasting electricity at all. Come morning I have a fully charged battery.

vote-for1vote-against

I was really tempted by this deal...I think the Amazon ratings are somewhat swayed by the high price there. HOWEVER I have a Lenovo u450p laptop that emits the most annoying/loud beep when the battery is low, and it drives my dogs NUTS. I just don't want to risk this happening if I forget to push the green button. :(

vote-for1vote-against

jbgroup1: This should work, but it won't charge as fast. A higher-wattage charger will charge faster than a lower-wattage one, but either should work.

markhaas: There is a picture at that shows the cord. It can handle international voltages, but non-US adapters aren't included - and for good reason, since there are dozens of different ones.

vote-for0vote-against

Oh wow I'm glad I read the Amazon reviews before I jumped on this. Reminder: Read details before buying. What looks like a straightforward product sounds like a disaster in the making.

I'm capable of using my laptop on battery when I need to on my own, thanks, don't need my charger deciding when I go on battery power. At least they specifically call it out for travel use and not for every day use, would fry your battery very quickly. Good in theory, doesn't sound so good in practice.

vote-for1vote-against

Looks like this is designed to avoid "vampire" power drain by cutting off when done charging. Though I'm not sure it cuts completely off, cutting off the charging circuit will cut most of the drain.

vote-for1vote-against

iGo used to send tips for free. I just had to pay them $12.99 for a tip to fit my Toshiba.

vote-for2vote-against

I can vouch for this set up on all Dell Latitude up to 90W.

It has a power button and even though volume wise it is not much smaller than a typical power supply it is flatter than most so it travels more easily.

I have replaced all my traveling laptop power adapters (2) with this at $79.

vote-for2vote-against

I purchased one of these from Radio Shack for A LOT more money - My work laptop charger had quit working and I needed a replacement immediately. I have had no problems with this product, and like it so well that I am ording 1 for both my husband and my personal laptops. My only complaint is that the adaptor itself can get quite warm when it has been on for awhile. My FAVORITE thing about this adaptor is the USB port which allows me to charge my phone and computer at the same time.

vote-for1vote-against

will this work w a motorola xoom? unlike most tablets, the xoom does not charge via usb. the ac charger has a a tiny tip...anyone using this for the xoom?

vote-for-2vote-against

What kind of records does this thing play?
Full size LP's or just the 45's?

vote-for1vote-against

The iGo.com website lists what tip works with what device. However, the Xoom is not listed. A little Googling showed that there doesn't appear to be a compatible one. If you can find a listed device that takes the same charger as your unlisted one, you can use that (though at your own risk). I got a tip for my Thrive tablet, which isn't listed but takes the same charger as the HP Mini, so it's a 212 or 712 tip (depending on which series, 2xx or 7xx, your charger takes).

The actual voltage and polarity depends on the tip, which is why that's not listed.

I had no problem getting a free tip from a previous Woot (albeit a different model). There's a website listed in the packaging. I put in my serial number and was shipped out a tip. Apparently some sales channels (such as Radio Shack) don't get the free tips.

My biggest concern with the "green" models are the people reporting that it doesn't automatically turn back on when the charge level declines, so you have to keep resetting it.

vote-for1vote-against

Hi, is the following right?
My laptop charger says 16V and 4A, that means 64W,right?, which means that charging device would work?
Thanks a lot!

"■Includes USB port for charging other mobile devices (USB cable and tips not included)"

Really Woot? So which is it? Is the USB port included or not? Touche woot. Touche...

vote-for1vote-against

Like I said, the easiest way to determine if they have a compatible tip is to check igo.com . If they have a tip but it's not included in the package, they will send you one free.

It has a USB power output port (.76A) but you have to provide your own cable that fits your device.

vote-for1vote-against

@fruitopia3: It has a usb PORT. It does not include a usb CABLE.

vote-for1vote-against

I got it today and it's a crappy dud. Light comes on for 4 seconds then shuts off. Piece of junk.

vote-for1vote-against

@cwc24: I got it two days ago and have the same problem. I plug it in, press the button, the light turns on for 5 seconds then turns off, and never charges my computer. It will not turn on again unless I unplug it and plug it back in, and then it does the same thing. I've gone through all the suggested troubleshooting: Yes, all the connections are secure. yes, I am using the correct tip. Yes, the outlet works. Waiting for Monday to come around so I can call customer service but my hopes aren't high.

vote-for1vote-against

I have the same problem...press the button; lights light up, and then go out
a few seconds later.

vote-for1vote-against

I think you are probably doing this already, but make sure your laptop is plugged in before you press the green button.
