with all the hate surrounding this game, is a $15 price tag worth it?

I also heard it was an epic flop :(.

My fiance and I enjoyed it. And it's got 4 stars on Amazon... Though we played through it entirely in co-op. And we always have more fun that way. In fact we've been waiting for it to get to roughly this price so we can play through again on our two machines separately and not have to do split screen.

I'm about as big a Resident Evil fan as you're likely to find, and I hate this game. I've been playing through it with a friend, and we're nearly done (2 chapters left out of 20), so I think I've given it a fair shake, but it just isn't fun. It has very few parts that even attempt to be scary, the gameplay is totally bland, the story is uninteresting, and the inventory & controls are frustrating. I definitly wouldn't pay $15 for this stinker.

Resident Evil has gone down hill after Nemesis, which in my opinion is the best RE and included the very first mercenary mode. Then they came out with RE: Survivor and everything kind went downhill from there with exception of RE4. Although no longer based on an actual virus, more of a parasite, RE4 had some neat elements. Ok I'm done. =)

I think Code Veronica, the remake of the original, and Zero were all pretty good, too, though not as good as the first two games (which are my personal favorites). I don't give much though to the spin-off games like Gun Survivor and Gaiden. I think the main series only really went downhill with RE5, and 6 sadly doesn't improve upon any of its problems.

@livinonedge, @cafink: The remake of the original was definitely outstanding. Survival Horror at its finest. RE4 was an absolutely excellent game as well in its own right. The only problem with it was it started straying from the survival horror conventions (ironically established by the original RE). So it wasn't as scary as some of the earlier games (though still with some great horror elements), but it was much more tightly and intelligently constructed from a gaming perspective.

RE5 actually wasn't a bad game either... the only problem is Capcom seemed to think: "Oh, we added some more action into RE4 and look how popular that was! Let's go crazy with RE5!" Which resulted in minimal horror elements, really defeating the purpose of the Resident Evil series and making it like any other forgettable shooter.

Haven't played RE6, and have no real desire to. Maybe when I can get it for $5 to $10 I'll give it a shot....
