Aww man, I wish I hadn't just paid $135 to send my broken PS3 into Sony for repairs. Definitely would have pulled the trigger on this one based on the time it takes to get it repaired. My PS3 went down on the 16th of Decemeber, the box they send you to ship your PS3 back to them took two weeks to arrive, and I sent it out the same day and it still hasn't gotten to them yet.

I paid 10 bucks more for mine and it was new and came with harry potter blu-ray but this deal isn't too bad

vote-for4vote-against

Where did you buy it with Harry Potter Blu-Ray?

vote-for2vote-against

@thetateman: just like w270 I would like to know as well

@thetateman: The Harry potter one was $250 over the holidays.

(but maybe someone had it for lower on BF or CM?!?!?)

vote-for0vote-against

@pyxientx: Kmart had it for $219, I believe. That deal is gone now (just like Kmart).

vote-for2vote-against

@thetateman: Yours was also new and this is refurb.

vote-for2vote-against

does anyone know about this company? is it safe? is the rebuild quality good?

vote-for13vote-against

Geeks.com has always been a pretty good place to buy from. Our company used to sell to them and we didn't have any issues really. It's pretty hard to mess up a ps3 fix as long as it wasn't board level repair. If it was swapping out a laser or power supply, you should be good.

However, you won't know what was done to a particular unit, but I'd take the gamble at that price.

vote-for4vote-against

In for one. Really, I just need a Blu-ray player. But the added streaming options will make this justifiable.

vote-for3vote-against

what would be some good games to get with this? (ive got a 360 as well)

ill be picking one of these up anyhow

vote-for3vote-against

@alderuen: Any of the Uncharted games are a great start.

vote-for3vote-against

Not a bad deal, but please put refurbished in the title; I wish it was a rule. Not downvoting because you put it in the description, but please put it in the title next time.

vote-for2vote-against

@alderuen: Lots of the same games you probably already have for the 360 are out on the PS3, like Skyrim or Modern Warfare. I think the more pressing question is what genre of game do you enjoy, so we can narrow things down.

3D Dot Game Heroes is a fun zelda-like tongue-in-cheek game, Katamari is always great. I'm enjoying Skyrim on it right now and had fun with Deus Ex. The Uncharted series is really well done too. I went with the PS3 myself since it has a lot of the same games as the XBox and I enjoy the blu-ray/streaming options available for it. If I had already had an XBox I probably would have just made do with the streaming options and stuck with DVDs for awhile myself, but that's just because I'm cheap.

The picture shows a silver faceplate where the disc is inserted. Other pics of the PS3 Slim on other sites do not have that. Does anyone know if there are different models? Should I be avoiding certain models like you would avoid the older Xbox 360's?

vote-for2vote-against

@pyxientx: The HP deal from Amazon was $250 in December but came with a $50 gift code, which is close enough to $200 for me because I buy a lot from Amazon.

The deal doesn't seem to be going anymore (retail for the HP version is now $300). Maybe it's a Christmas thing? I bought a Wii last year and they had a similar deal - selling at the same price as everyone else but giving a $50 gift certificate.

I guess it actually is a deal to buy stuff before Christmas sometimes. I usually try to wait out the frenzy.

vote-for2vote-against

The HP combo is still $250 at Walmart and Gamestop. We actually just got one at walmart a few days ago, to replace the 60gb that has died yet again, and can't be fixed.

vote-for3vote-against

I think the silver faceplate is just a reflection. If you look at the other pictures on the site, the part looks black while another spot looks silver. Just a reflection it appears to me.

vote-for3vote-against

@wnyx585am: Thats not a silver plate, its black and just reflecting the light.

vote-for3vote-against

Is there any kind of additional warranty available for these?

vote-for3vote-against

I'd like to downvote this only because you're twisting my arm into spending 190 bones on something I don't particularly need.

What the heck...upvote and in for one!

vote-for2vote-against

Good deal. Thx for this one.

vote-for1vote-against

@figgers3036 well its odd really, I wouldnt say I even have a type of genre I like. Ive got games from all over the spectrum. Ive got NHL games, modern warfare, assassins creed, rocksmith/band. I guess what I was really asking is if there was games that are exclusive to ps3, and are "must-buys"

vote-for3vote-against

@alderuen: PS3 exclusives that I consider "must buy" are the Uncharted series and the LittleBigPlanet games. And possibly Heavy Rain.

vote-for3vote-against

@alderuen: I absolutely love the Uncharted series UC3 was one of the few day 1 buys for me. Killzone was good, not amazing. I really enjoyed Heavy Rain as well. The Ratchet and Clank series are a blast too.

I found a code online that gets you a free nerf gun on orders over $99 at geeks.com Not sure if it works, but it did not give me an error when I checked out.

Code: NERFGIFT

vote-for2vote-against

@wnyx585am: awwwww man. do you know what gun it was?

edit: I only see mavericks on the site, so thats prob what it is. good gun.

vote-for2vote-against

@rbrasche: Pick up a squaretrade warranty and you should be golden. And, I agree geeks has been good to me in the past.

vote-for2vote-against

@alderuen: Uncharted and Little Big Planet, like other people are saying, are exclusives. If I were in your shoes I probably would sit tight with the 360 since there aren't a ton of exclusives/must haves out there that aren't already on the 360. I was buying a new console and was attracted to not paying for online play (No, Sony doesn't have my credit card info so I'm not immediately worried about their being hacked), blu-ray, and good hardware quality history compared to the red ring of death.

I just can't bring myself to spend nearly 200 bucks on a 90 day warranty product. Apple, for example, stands behind their refurbs with 1 year warranties...that's a worthy risk.

vote-for2vote-against

@davekriss: Please don't be a fanboy in here. You are comparing apples (no pun intended) and oranges. If a refurb ps3 lasts the 90 days then it will most likely last much longer. You can't expect 3rd party refurbishing companies to give you the sun, moon, and stars. If you are really that concerned with it, go buy a new console.

Only refurb consoles I don't trust is Xbox, and our company refurbishes them. Xboxs have had so many overheating problems until you get to the Jasper board. It's just a shot in the dark. A lot of it is due to being misused (put on its side rather than laying flat), leaving it on 24/7, playing for 15 hours at a time, not having enough airflow... Playstations can have the same issues with overheating if you keep them in a closed cabinet as well.

Overall, If it lasts the 90- days.. It'll most likely last a lot longer. If not, CPS- Consumer Priority Service offers a 2 year extended warranty for $35 on any Xbox, Wii, or PS3.
