Gosh, I wonder what you’d find by typing “DVP5990” and “region hack” into Google…

NEW open box: brand spankin' new open box!!
I bought one of these over at the main Woot site for basically the same price in April 2009. Great little player. The USB feature is really handy, although the filesystem browsing leaves much to be desired.
right, so this says HD DVD player, which is misleading. it does NOT play HD-DVDs, it is simply an upconverting DVD player.
@ellimist28: oh, thanks. i think i fixed that... better? :)
@wootiewooterson: indeed, good sir!
Ooh neato. I did the Google search suggested in the description and found that someone has released custom firmware for this thing that significantly improves the user interface. Makes browsing USB drives much, much, better. Links:

@the tim: There is upgraded (hacked) firmware available that does wonders for the file browsing. There's a thread about it here:

This seems like a good player for a good price, but unfortunately I need a dual voltage unit, and this is 110v only :(
hmmm it says "Sorry, you are too late" on every window even when im not looking at the product. It let me ordered anyways and i received a confirmation email. will update if my order gets cancelled
I bought one last go around, I love it! comes with everything, and the 1080p BEAUTIFUL!
Question: Does this have standard A/V connections to hook up to an older (Non-HD) television? Like, just the red/white/yellow connections? Or do you have to use the HDMI? Thanks!
So this site is reputable? I guess I am not sure about any site that cannot spell the word 'warranty' right....
Bought one off Woot last year and I love it. If you only buy one DVD player this year make sure it's this one. Love the USB capability. Looking forward to the expanded menu options listed above.
If I didn't already have one I'd be all over this deal.
@preed4962: Couldn't find anything on the site 'skoofy' on reseller ratings, and a google search of them and reviews pops up a lot of porn site reviews (it is the internet after all).

has anyone used this site before? this looks like a heck of a deal, but I'd like to know more about the site before divulging my CC info to them.
@ellimist28: wootie is a girl. :)
@fosterscool: I ordered a Logitech V220 mouse 14 days ago, payed instantly via paypal, and still no mouse.
dillyeo.com has the same with FREE shipping
@dar83win: It does have the standard Composite connections (Yellow, Red, White) for non-HD TV's, as well as Component and HDMI.
@schmedlapp: I see it as 49.99 but the shipping is free. And the content of the site looks almost exactly the same as the skoofy.com page, even has the same required fields to select a cable and warranty.
@fosterscool: looks like geeks content
I was very happy with my last philips dvd player and I just recently got an hdtv so this will be my first opportunity to put it to any sort of test...
D'oh! Just recently bought a new DVD player (DVD only); was hoping to find something like this but couldn't at the price point. Next time, after the current one dies, I guess!
They fixed the spelling for "warranty" but still are promoting a "weeky raffle." The FAQ page states: "Do I have to pay for shipping? * Yes, That will run you $.99." But shipping for this item is $8.99.
So very sketchy site indeed.. The apparent ties to dillyeo.com and geeks.com is a little reassuring. I finally went for the deal after being on the fence all day upon seeing the PayPal option. The site just does not seem "ready for prime time" enough for me to trust my CC info on it.
@ciabelle & the rest of the wooters: Sorry, we forgot to change the shipping rate in our terms and conditions. It is changed now. Prior to this sale our items were at a fixed rate of $.99 If you have any questions or concerns feel free to email email us support@skoofy.com
I am trying to order this ideam for to days and it will not let me can some body help me.
I paid thru paypal on this deal, and recieved no email confirmation or tracking number, although my paypal transaction went through just fine. Customer Service phone number goes straight to voicemail, with a promise to get back to me within 24 hours. Email Customer Support returns an email with a blank space where the trouble id and description should be, and a promise of the same. I assumed that WOOT would only offer from reputable companies. My bad. We'll see what happens.
I ordered through PayPal and charge to my AMEX card for an additional level of protection. I received my two DVD players without incident on Friday, I was never provided a tracking number. I found my own tracking number by using my order number as a reference number in the FEDEX tracking system. I have opened and powered on one of the DVD players. They are brand new looking with all documentation and even included the batteries for the remote. The site is definitely 'not ready for primetime' but so far I am a happy customer.
Just bought one of these TODAY (3/31)! The "buy now" link was not there yesterday, but I checked again today and it was there. If you want one, go NOW. Link is still active... for now.
