Uh, no. The "sale" prices where the discount is reduced to 10% are actual regular prices being compared to mythical MSRPs or they dropped their regular selling price by some tiny amount to qualify it as a sale item, at least for the items I saw.

Totally bogus, probably unless you're buying high-markup, low-quality crap they loaded up on for the season.

I ordered some slacks that I paid nearly $40 for back in the summer. With the sale price and the 10% off, I got them for $20 this time. Looks like a deal to me. I saved $2 off the sale price on that item. It's not a huge savings, but every little bit helps.

Their free shipping code is still valid until midnight tonight as well. Not sure if they'll work together, but enter JOY2UNME for free shipping.

Wanted to get a NFL jersey for my son and the item was on sale for 2.50 off reg price and tried to use the MAGIC40 code and didn't work

@trekmiss: No argument. A deal's a deal. But the items I looked (shoes in one case) at were marked down to 88.99 from the regular selling price of 89.99 (with a fictitious "reference" price of $100), and on that basis - a $1 markdown - the $56 sale price you would reasonably expect suddenly becomes $80, which is $10-$15 more than you can get them just about anywhere else online.

BTW, you don't get to find this out until you provide all of your marketing information to them.

I ordered sale items, so the Magic code did not work , but the free shipping code JOY@UNME made this worth it.

Wooohoo! seems like a scam. What ever I wanted to buy is currently not available!

I just wanted to clarify that the code MAGIC40 came from a JCPenney ad that I received in the mail yesterday. I'm sure every other person who has ordered from their catalog or online store in the past year also received it. I'm sorry if it isn't working for some people.

@sunils13: If it was a scam, your item most definitely would be available to "buy" :P

I tried this code earlier today and it didn't work on what I wanted to buy. It seems like a legit code, though, as it's appearing on retailmenot. A commenter there said he/she called JCPenney to verify the code and was told it only applies to clothes and bedding (which would explain why it didn't work for a watch I was buying).

@joshmatz: Thanks for the information about it only working on clothes and bedding. That would explain why it worked on the slacks that I ordered.

Here is the fine print on the mailer I received. I should have paid more attention to this and posted it sooner.

*Discount does not apply to Value Right, 2/more, Combo, Online "Outlet", Baby Gear, Cosmetics & Fragrances, Cookware, Electronics, Floor Care, Sephora, Toys, Watches & Outlet Jewelry, Clarks, Easy Spirit, Levi's, Gift Card/e-Gift Card, Online Daily Deals, Services & Service Contracts, prior purchases, orders being processed, or in combination with any other discount. Offer valid through December 18, 2009.

LOL! After all of that, it's amazing it even worked at all, but it did. I guess you just have to choose the right thing.
