I doubt these ever had a problem with them. They sold this exact set at Costco.com on special for $30. Costco does not put its stuff on clearance wholesaler must take them back. So I suspect this is exactly the same phone. They are a great deal.

I bought two of these on one of the woot sites just recently. I paired all 6 phones to one base and use the second base only as a charger. One line, 6 handsets. Works quite nicely!

I guess if you still have a land line, this is a good deal...

I was going to get this, but the amazon one-star reviews changed my mind. Two reported issues stand out: 1) although the handset ringers can be turned off, apparently there is no way to mute the ringer on the base, and 2) "eco mode" reduces transmission power when a handset is near the base, causing problems with interrupted, garbled speech.

Also, if you do buy this, note that several reviews complain that the keypad letters and numbers rub off easily, so a layer of protective acrylic (or clear nail polish) might be a good idea.

@sgrman05: Not just for land lines... works with people who have the "triple play" bundles from the cable providers... or just internet phone service period.

@ginawoot: I've had a set of these for two years. No number rub-off or gargbling issues ever. (Well, OK, a bit of static if I'm standing within 3 feet of a running microwave oven - LOL!). Don't know about the base ringer - never tried to turn it off. Maybe just set volume to zero?

I just threw away a pair of these phones... They worked well for about six months then the batteries wouldn't stay charged on either phone. Replaced the batteries, within three months, they stopped holding a charge.
