This was one of the favorite books of one of my college friends. Nearly as a direct result of this, we spent about 4 weeks after graduation driving around the desert West, including (I think) a 3 day stay at Arches National Park.

The place that Abbey describes is very different from the Arches of today, but still somewhat relevant. So long as you take Abbey's rather prickly attitude in stride, it is very much worth a read. Even more so at 2 bucks.

This book is pretty good...I like how he uses the phrase "National Moneymints" haha.

I am both surprised and gladdened that this book is still topical and around! Up there with "A Sand County Almanac", a very important read for the "new" green generation, as well as the old.
BTW: This is coming from one who spent two of the greatest two summers of his life working as an employee of the United States Park Service, where "The Monkey Wrench Gang" was a must read!

It's been a long time since I read this. Thanks for the reminder of this classic. Time to reread !
