HP TouchPad 16GB ($99) and 32GB ($149) Selloff- Starts 8/20
HERE'S THE DEAL! HP recently announced TouchPads are being discontinued, and retailers can't get rid of stock, thus the price cuts. Don't be surprised to see retailers match these prices (Best Buy, Amazon). Best Buy in Canada has already slashed their prices on these tablets. @dman244: I'm wondering if the discount is by type you select on registering. I just registered and selected the alumni button, and touchpad is showing only meager discounts at the moment.
Still, very cool that I can get any discount at all just by graduating college. I don't think I could still get away with claiming to be a student.
The 32GB version has showed up as 149 as hp academy price, then take 15 off and it's 134. Is this good?
@kalfred02: Very, you can use cashback too. Check my earlier comment.
How are you registered on HP Academy though, as a college student? please tell
@kalfred02: I'd say so. Still shows 474.99 for me.
Can anyone post their HP Academy link? Wondering if it is different from mine, really fearing that the discount only shows up if you are registered as being a current student.
@kalfred02: says $474 for me
Just snagged the 32gb model at the HP academy site for $149.
I registered as a student (and I am one) still shows $379 for the 16Gb and $474 for 32GB
@apfrehm: im a student and shows at $474.99 for me
How the hell are you guys getting it at the discounted price? It is still coming up as the standard price for me.
@kaisterbahn: like to know how please
I'm a university instructor, legit. So, the thing is... it first showed 149, and I didn't realize what was going on... then i removed it from my cart, and all I could find was 499, THEN i was like...oh no! So, i went back on my browser to the time that the 149 one was added, and it worked, it's currently in my cart at the cheaper price. Still nervous about buying it and whether or not it's a good tablet just in general.
@dman244: cool, thanks.
Too much commotion going on with this though. I'm sure there will be better deals later ...now I feel better.
Lol, tried to sign up for HP Academy but my college isn't even listed and it's accredited. Bastards.
Maybe I'm going about it wrong then... What about time zone? I'm in PST. Is anyone ordering from HP Academy that is east of EST, meaning already midnight? It would be insane (meaning awful for me personally) if they did it as a rolling change, rather than shifting at midnight in a given timezone, but that is a possibility.
Beyond that, I've got no idea why it would show up differently for different people.
still on hold ftr. HAHA
@kalfred02: If you are worried about price issues, buy it at displayed price. If they raise the price, I'm sure you can get it cancelled. If they don't, you still win.
The thing is, this is still a functional tablet. The hardware is amazing for $149, even if nobody ever gets Android on it. But I guarantee that that's on the mind of a LOT of people right now, and if anyone succeeds, this will be by far the best sub-$300 (damn, sub-$200!) Android tablet for a good while.
@apfrehm: how would that even work? its a html code, it would be horrifically complex to create code that would decipher your time zone, than give you a different price.
Urgh I added it to my cart when it was 100 and then was charged 398.00 at Amazon! I was on the chat with AMAZON customer service WHO WILL NOT HONOR OR ADJUST THE PRICE! While waiting I saw the Target price go buy and did nothing grrrr! So they cancelled my order
@maddwakester: Location tracking is getting more and more trivial. If anything, they could do a best-guess by IP. While not perfect, it would probably be close enough for most time zones.
I understand that the likelihood is low, but that's the only guess I have left at this point as to why some people can go and see $149, and others can see $474.99. The different registration types have been ruled out.
The 16GB are sold out on HP website, but I just got two 32GB under an EPP/Academic account for a total of $317.98 ($149.99 each plus tax). It's real, it's true, and it's coming to all stores I'm certain.
@apfrehm: or they are trollz getting a good lolz at us
20 minutes everyone!
@czupik: I'm logged into the student Academy site. They still show up as 400+ depending on the route I go into view the item. I went from the HP homepage and it shows up as 150.
@bdaul: What part of the country are you in? (We're trying to figure out why some people see the lowered price and some don't see it)
@maddwakester: Good possibility, I hope not.
@dman244: I'm EST. I originally saw the $499 price, but I hit the 'HP' logo at the top left corner (basically starting over) and navigated to the tablets. I think the tablet overview page still showed regular price, but when I hit the 32GB page it showed $149.99.
@bdaul: YES! This method worked for me, thanks so much! I see the price change now!
im not seeing anything
@kaisterbahn: Nice work, got mine! But I forgot to use the $15 off code!!!! IDIOT!
@aobfrost: Didn't work for me
@bdaul: IT WORKS!
If you add something cheap like a pack of paper for $5, then you can use the save30hp coupon and get and extra $10 off from the save15hp coupon
I just bought the 32gb and a pack of paper (as a filler to qualify for more discounts) for a total of $134.87 Here: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/store_access.do?product_code=FB359UA%23ABA&template_type=product_detail&jumpid=ex_r11614_us/en/HHO_r329/Affiliate/FY11/TouchPad&aoid=35252

Goodluck!
@bdaul: didnt work for me dang it
@bdaul: You did it! Waiting for the order confirmation to finish, but Paypal already sent me the payment email, so looking good!
Under $150 after tax for the 32GB. Now to start praying that someone hacks Android on this, fast.
I'm seeing $399. Atlanta, GA 11:52 PM EST
No go for me, as well.
5 more minutes till midnight, hoping the 16GB's go back in stock.
@aobfrost: where...amazon, bb, walmart????
ok, HP said the 16 is sold out. You can get the 32g for the 150 BUT they charge your card the full non-sale price, then refund your card in 3-5 business days. Super glad I sat on hold for what felt like the entire night!
Can't get the sale price to appear anymore. I haven't received a confirmation email yet but I have my order number from the confirmation screen. Sure hope the order doesn't get cancelled or anything.
It worked for my entire family
@hemi71cuda: It does the same to me, depending on how you look access the page.
If you see full price in cart you should call and stay on hold til you get through or the 32 gb will be sold out too and you'll be sayin huh?
30 seconds till midnight!
Is the 30GB model even worth $150? I really want a tablet, but...
got an order through at the 149 waiting for confirmation email
12:01AM, Still out of stock!
Anyone seeing any difference after Midnight EST?
