These are part of the "FilterForGood" campaign by Brita. The idea is to use a Brita filter and make your own purified water instead of buying bottled water. Even if you aren't into the earth movement - I can tell you from using these daily that these are great bottles.
* Very durable with ring to hook your finger through.
* Large enough mouth for big ice cubes.
* Don't make the water taste like plastic

Caution ... according to the product description, this bottle is NOT 100% leakproof.

I don't drink out of any plastic containers anymore. I use stainless steel water bottles and use a Brita tap filter to fill them. Yes, they are heavier to carry than plastic, but the water stays colder longer.

They're BPA free too-- which is a very big plus. I wish all polycarbonate bottles were, but they're not. On the other hand, so are stainless steel bottles-- anyone know any good deals there?

As to radicalreader`s comment, Nalgene is just being very responsible to its normal customers by saying its not 100% leakproof. Their normal products are incredibly durable and can be beaten up like crazy and never ever leak. I own one of these smaller flip tops, they are excellent. They dont really leak even when held upside down or shaken. I highly recommend this product, I paid over half of this price for just one.

25 bucks for 3 water bottles.... were's the deal?

If you don't use the so-called Woot Deal link, and just use the website to order the bottles, they are even cheaper. $6.88 each and $20.64 for three, plus they still give the free shipping if you use the woot promo code (EPWMN).

I have a couple of these. They have never leaked and as someone who has gone through dozens of different H20 bottles, these are my favorite. Yes, these are BPA free, stain free and odor free. This isn't the best deal out there, but if you are in the market for a decent bottle, it's certainly not a horrible deal.

Looks like all you need is to have an order over $20 and the code will work. I'd rather buy the aluminum cans myself, and very well might. Should work with the 2 filters I bought on 2uesday.

These are nice bottles but I don't think this price is a deal.

I recently picked up a couple of these at my local Big Lots Store for $3. each and they each had multiple packets of sugarless drink mix in them.

@mtrlgrl: I am a little confused on how a metal (thermal conductor) bottle keeps the water colder than a plastic (thermal insulator) bottle. Do you have an insulated bottle?

This Nalgene stuff is US Made and probably not the same thing that you would find at Big Lots (probably China made and cheaply constructed). Nalgene is a company that make a lot of labware and containers for industrial applications. It's truly a cut above - IMO.

waltc, if you want to avoid BPA that's certainly fine, but as to it actually being dangerous you might want to check out this post from yesterday on the American Chemical Society's official blog: http://cenblog.org/2010/03/03/bpa-craziness/

@ntsupply:

The ones I got at Big LOts are the exact same bottle ~ Nalgene US made with the Brita logo. They may have been a promotion bottle which where the promotion was over and they sold off the ones with the drink mix to Big Lots. This is very common with "special promotions" by name brands.

I have one of these and the top opens ALL THE TIME. I set it on the carpet, it falls over, SPLOOSH. It falls out of my backpack, SPLOOSH. I sincerely hate it. I'm still looking for a replacement because I like a smaller-mouthed water bottle.

@bradpowell: I'm not really a tech person. Just going by my experience with plastic vs metal. When you say thermal insulator, I think of those stainless steel mugs with a plastic liner. I just don't like drinking out of any kind of plastic because no matter if there is any taste or odor, how can anyone be sure if chemicals leach into the water or not?

Another reason why stainless steel bottles are better than plastic http://www.onlineeducation.net/bottled_water/

I found them on sale at Wal Mart for $1 each.

@mtrlgrl: Your link doesn't support your point at all. That's about bottled water vs. tap water and has nothing to do with whether the container for siad tap water is stainless steel or plastic.

As for the comment about "who knows when chemicals will leak," it's not very useful to be afraid of a bunch of nameless "chemicals." Plastic is in general very sterile, which i s why it's used in medical equipment and the like. There was the problem with BPA for hard plastics which has since been rectified, but even that had doubts as far as how dangerous it was in bottles: lab trials showed a danger, but in a high-volume water bottle only so much is going to leak, and it will be fairly dilute. It's enough to remove the BPA, but I doubt anyone's seriously hurt themselves drinking out of the old-style bottles.
