I keep breaking these on Skyrim

vote-for5vote-against

These sure would have been a help when I locked myself out of my new home twice in one week last spring. Much cheaper.

When I retire from my real job I am going to be a locksmith so I can make real money.

vote-for4vote-against

So for $10 and a few hours practice I can change careers?

vote-for-1vote-against

I'm in for one!!! What the hell. You never know when you might need to break in somewhere!

vote-for4vote-against

These are pretty flimsy, they'll do you in a pinch, but not for much else.

vote-for-1vote-against

i wish to thank woot! for teaching scum how to break into my house

vote-for5vote-against

I too learned how to use these via Skyrim. In for 40 sets.

vote-for13vote-against

nothing about this is a deal. its the same shipping discount they have all the time they just pick a new item under 20$ every day do promote as a "deal"...

Before you purchase a set of Lock picks, check your local/state laws. In msny states/localitys, it is illegal to even possess a set of lockpicks. In other states, its no more illegal than owning a crowbar, and requires "intent" be established behind the lockpick set. Of course, if a cop has you pulled over for some reason, and finds your lockpick set in your wallet, they now have probable cause to tear through your car searching for any other probable crime you may or may not have committed.

Also, picking a lock is not easy, or quick. what they show on TV is usually nothing like the actual act of picking a lock.

vote-for-5vote-against

just steal these when they aren't looking.or slice someone with an orkish battle ax then take them from them. thats how I got mine.

vote-for10vote-against

@waltertangofoxtrot: but mcgyver could pick a lock with a broken light bulb using the filament in 20 seconds... that's not real?!?

vote-for6vote-against

Ebay used to sell these for about the same price until it because banned.
Now they are hard to find and to buy.

disagree with the above sentiment that lockpicking is hard.
If you have a regular 6 or 7 pin kwikset locks that are on just about any of the cheap doors, you can learn to pick them in a couple of hours with a good teacher or a youtube tutorial. That said, there are difficult locks to pick - locks that have built up rust from water damage, locks with 3 or more longer pins at the front, double sided locks, etc.

Lockpicking should be done responsibly for obvious reasons, but getting a set of lockpicks and practicing on your own locks or a Master lock will teach you how to better protect your assets and family from potential criminals. In fact, you should be aware that probably every single lock in your house, can be picked in 1 to 5 seconds using tumbler keys. Put your deadbolts on at night, and get even a cheap alarm system if possible.

I must be really bad. Bought one of these a year back for $10, practiced on 2 locks in my house using a youtube video, and ended up breaking both locks (did something to the pins or springs?). Cost me almost $100 to replace the tumblers in both, so this deal ended up costing me $110, and I never got it to work. Expensive failure.

The ability to 'bump' locks makes these irrelevant, for the vast majority of situations.

@remoteoz: Breaking into your house with a swift kick and/or a brick is easier, cheaper and usually more practical for a would-be burglar than lockpicking. The point of lockpicking is to leave the lock undamaged, a concern most home invaders do not have.

This is just their regular price....click on the link.

@katanaryda: I should clarify. MOST of what you see on TV is false. MacGuyver is obviously based on a true story, along with the A-Team. Both of these groups were capable of using the most rudimentary supplies to build massive machinery, with their only shortcoming being the inability to actually hit someone with a bullet when spraying a 20MM Vulcan Canon into into times square on new years... But then again, that was part of their skillz, to fire warning shots at everyone, and get them to promise to never be badguys again ever after fist smashing their headpans with a handful of punches.

I wish I could defuse a thermal nuclear warhead, using nothing more than a gum wrapper, 2 toothpicks, a hastily trained troupe of field mice, and the right front plastic hubcap from a 1987 Ford Taurus. Unfortunately, to keep terrorism down, they don't show all of the steps on TV, since if you can defuse a bomb, obviously you can build one.

Got these and a few battle ready katanas. Ready for Z-Day!

vote-for3vote-against

It's hard to tell but these are actually in a flat hard plastic case. I thought it was gonna be some (edit: profanity)little fabric wallet but it was a nice little surprise

vote-for3vote-against

Mixed reviews have me cautious. The good reviews seem overly good or fake to me.

vote-for2vote-against

@remoteoz: Shut down the Internet! It "teach(es) scum how to break into my house"

vote-for3vote-against

Signed up for those free throwing knives a little while ago, which were cancelled. Now keep getting emails, and mailings from them.

vote-for5vote-against

The higher-end sets come with a ski mask.

vote-for2vote-against

Beware, BUDK stuff is utter garbage.

vote-for1vote-against

@waltertangofoxtrot: I know, I know tv is different from real life but it took the locksmith about 15 seconds to help me find my way into my house again.

vote-for1vote-against

@corrosivesubstance: Well then you should know you hardly need to buy them. You'll find them all over the place if you just look in enough boxes and such. Also effective (but not recommended) is killing random strangers you encounter. They're bound to have some.

Also I love how some Skyrim references are being voted up reasonably high, and the others down into the ground.

vote-for1vote-against

@katanaryda: The mythbusters actually did a recreation of this one, out of all the mcguyver-y stuff, that actually worked the best
