Well for those of you who still like Apple and want an ipod, this is a refurb at a pretty good price. You can get a 2 year warranty from Squaretrade for $47.00 (using a $10 off coupon if you "like" them on facebook). I have personally been impressed with Apple service.

I stated this before and I will state it again (although last time my comment got ~15 downvotes):

I bought one of these for $200 brand-new on craigslist. I recommend checking craigslist before buying at a store.

Ordered this on the 12th when it was the same price, got it today in CA.
I was worried the back would be scratched but the thing looked brand new. No scratches on the body or screen at all.
There may be some kind of excess material around the edge which may be from a new screen install. No biggie.
No problems so far but can't comment on the battery yet. Updated to iOS 5 no problem.
My daughter loves it and now I don't have to share my gtablet with ICS (thanks DRH)!
Obviously no factory box from apple, comes in a matte box with the description written on it and the word "refreshed" written on it (the box). The other items are kind of shabby, meaning the USB charger to connect to computer and the headphones. I guess you could call them usable.
So far I got this, a 2year warranty fromsquaretrade, a shell case and plants vs zombies, for less than a new one (don't forget you need to pay tax for a new one but not on this).

Well, hi there all. Could you please focus your discussion on the little ol' iPod shown here. If you want to discuss the transgressions of Apple yet again, feel free to do so over in Ask the Community.

I am not a real Apple fan or enthusiast. Avoided them like the plague for many years. Then I had to get into tablets for a work project. I tried many, including the iPad and Androids. While there are some limits with Apple (Flash) and they do have tight controls, the stability of the environment and consistent experience among models can't be denied. Even my non-tech wife can use an iPhone. She got lost on an Android and now my Androids' Market capability is broken.

Apple has it's flaws, but a quality product isn't one of them.

I'm no Apple snob, but I got the "new iPad" at 12:01am at the local WalMart last Friday (8th in line I got in at 11:30pm!) and haven't looked back.

Apple is on the leading edge of customer satisfaction.

P.S. I agree their product is a bit too high priced...

Oh.. I got alittle steered away from main reason for commenting earlier. Bought this not too long back on Woot. Exact same Ipod.. It works fantastic and is in excellent shape. Battery life is pretty damn good. I watched a few full length movies on it and still had plenty of battery life left. Movies look amazing. Soo much you can do on this thing. Still playing around with it by adding and learning new apps. It's great. Suggest getting some better earbuds. Klipsch looks like a great buy from customer reviews. Going to nab another one of these for my son.. Later !!

This thing is worth the price just for Facetime if you're far away from friends and family. After buying one for my son and trying it out I wanted to get my own someday. Today is that day.

@ienvyno1: I'm not sure what apple earbuds are good for except maybe parts harvest. I'd rather try to put two pineapples in my ears than the ones that come with ipods.

Keep in mind you can buy a previous gen 32gb Touch on the Apple website for $179.

@wolverine230: The generation of the iPod on the other end of that link is unspecified. However, it does describe this model as "Originally released September 2009". The timeline on Wikipedia shows this as 3G.

The "refurbished" iPod I purchased from Apple came in a "factory fresh" box from China complete with a 1 year warranty. YMMV

Flash is crucial. Would you buy a car without AC only because your cousin bought one and it is easy to drive for him . Apple products do not have expansion slot. I hate to constantly plug it in and going to itunes so big brother knows what is on my device. Some people like it - I do not.You can not even download free programs without giving them credit card number. They are worse than facebook

Nice price for a refurb. However after owning a 8gb 2nd gen and a 32gb 4th gen, I moved on to better things(GB 2.3.5?)

vote-for-4vote-against

NOT that great of a deal. OEM Apple refurb last gen iPod Touch 32 GB sell on eBay for around $10 to $30 less than this (incl. shipping!) all the time

vote-for1vote-against

This is good deal assuming they go through the same refurb process as apple, which basically replaces everything but the logic board. I'm sure apple will put a new ipod out this year with the A5(X?) cpu, and better camera. Take that into consideration.

vote-for6vote-against

@zbi: Adobe doesn't even make Flash for Android anymore. This means that no phone/tablet/pod is good for you :)

LOOK ON eBay! You'll find the same thing Refurb for $10 dollars cheaper as a @alexd already pointed out!

vote-for4vote-against

I bought this for my son & when it got here, it was obvious that they had practically polished it to death - nearly removing the volume buttons to nothing. The back had been polished so much that the serial number was no longer visible and the apple itself was nearly gone. NOT IMPRESSED. This is not the quality of Refurb you would get from Apple. Yes the screen was good and yes it works - but after tax and shipping (if it applies) - you might consider buying a used one in excellent condition from Craigslist (usually $200 for the 32gb). Also, the headphones included were from some Chinese knock-off and the box wasn't an Apple box. Looks to me like they tested to make sure it worked - then just polished it. Who knows if they really tested the battery. $253 for a non-Apple refurb? (with tax/ship).... not again for us.

vote-for3vote-against

@setinstone31: They do not go through the same refurb process. We got one and they practically polished the back off and the buttons! I can't even see the serial number. Don't buy this one.

vote-for5vote-against

@comebacknader: Like we should trust eBay sellers (in general) with quality refurbs.

vote-for3vote-against

Friend got one. It was polished to the point of the buttons being worn down and it came with earbuds that looked like but werent the apples ones. The screen seemed funny (but looked new) so I believe the screen was replaced.

Amazon has them used from $199.99 and refurbished from $216.85 so I'm not sure what I'd be getting from this deal...

vote-for6vote-against

@grenade01: Is your friend sporte77's son?

vote-for2vote-against

Is this sold out? My order is not going through?!

vote-for1vote-against

@linc065: No. Don't let the name throw you. :)

vote-for2vote-against

@marcuslunn: If it's Amazon marketplace you won't be getting it directly from Amazon.

vote-for1vote-against

i love my ipod but the one thing that bugs me about it that if you are using safari or in a app sometimes it just goes black and kicks you back to the main screen. i thought it was just my ipod but my brother said his was doing the same thing. it can be really annoying if you are using a app like ebooks and it kicks you back, because you have to go back in and try to find your place again. outside of that it has been great buy.

UPDATE:

So we charged this thing last night to full charge.
We spent about 1.5 hours setting it up and my daughter using it to send and read emails and text messages through the apple message app that came with it.

This morning she used it for a bout 2 hours non-stop push email (gmail on the apple mail app), texting to friends, facetime, and playing plants vs. zombies. the screen brightness was set to automatic. So it was connected to the internet the whole time, was pretty much never put to sleep and she got about 3+ hours out of it (including last night).

Not sure if this is normal, but I some posts online say they get 4-5 hours with moderate to heavy use, I consider my daughter full on heavy use of this so I give the refurb a plus on the battery department.

fortunately I did not have the polished problem the other comments had below.

vote-for2vote-against

Just A FYI to all who got this today. Make sure you look at the case not just the box when you receive this. Just got mine that I ordered on 3-10-12 and it is a 8 GB unit.

vote-for3vote-against

@awasemike: Just letting you know, if you selected "Gmail" when setting the email account, it is not setup as push.

The only way to get push with Gmail on iOS is if you set it up as "Microsoft Exchange"

If you go into Settings >> Mail, Contacts, Cal.. >> Fetch New Data >> Advanced you'll see that it says Fetch.

vote-for2vote-against

does this have a apple warranty

vote-for2vote-against

Who refurbished it? Apple or an aftermarket company?

vote-for2vote-against

@aznvamp: Cool, thanks! Not sure if that means anything different for how it effects the power use.

vote-for3vote-against

@mhan11: No this does not have an apple warranty. The one I bought from sellout.woot about 9 days ago had a slip in the box that said it had a 30 day warranty and a phone number to call for help. Surprisingly, they didn't put their name on the slip so i have no idea who "they" are.

@w00dbutcher: as I said above I have no idea who the refurbishers are but I am 99.999% certain it is not apple. I am kind of weary about the fact whoever did refurbish these went to great lengths to cover up who they are.

vote-for-1vote-against

$240 for a refurb iPod touch? hahahaha

You've got to be kidding me.

And I love how the 'tards are down-voting others who are trying to help them find it cheaper other places.

The majority of people on this site suck so bad.

Why not get the Motorola XOOM Tablet 3G 32GB Black WiFi Verizon LTE Rdy Honeycomb Android 10.1" (723755811379) for $289.99 shipped instead?

vote-for1vote-against

@iggz: Made basically this point but the mod decided to delete both of my posts...how nice

vote-for1vote-against

@bonkerz: I bought a 32gb 4th gen with a cracked screen for $100, I bought and replaced the screen myself (I fix broken electronics) for $20, looks brand new... oh yeah, it's not that hard to change the screen.

vote-for1vote-against

Mine is heading back to the Woot guys... the battery doesn't fully charge. I can get it half-way charged, but it discharges after 30 minutes. It looked fine... the only issue was that the back was polished to the point where nothing was visible. I'll wait for my RMA number and so far, I'm only out a plastic screen protector.

r&d r&d
vote-for1vote-against

Ipod will not charge. I have plugged it in for 12 hours straight. Plugged directly into powered USB - no go. Plugged into USB wall charger - no go. Plugged into IHome docking station - no go. The back was also polished to the point where there was nothing visible. Currently waiting for response from Woot Member Services.

vote-for1vote-against

This is definitely not refurbished by apple. The device keeps waking up every 15 seconds, causing the battery to drain significantly. Made an appointment at the local apple store and they confirmed 3rd party parts. Waiting on RMA from Woot.

vote-for1vote-against

So if the screen is now all cracked up, there's no warranty? Just buy a replacement and do it myself?
