Hey guys, I think woot might be selling off their blank shirts. Have you heard yet?

Haters gonna hate but I downvoted this deal. Mostly to protest the new shirts and over the top advertising.

vote-for13vote-against

@cowboydann: I'm holding out for a discounted rate

vote-for10vote-against

Wow. They really wanna get rid of these things. More experienced and wiser users of Woot: have you ever seen a shirt.woot sale as a sponsored deal?

vote-for13vote-against

I just want to get a three pack that I pick for $14.99

vote-for6vote-against

I used my $5.00 off coupon from @Jumbowoot! to pick these up

vote-for6vote-against

is this like...the 3rd time i've seen a blank shirt deal in the past 2 days? is woot:

a) desperate for cash, and can't find real sponsored deals or...
b) liquidating AA shirts so they can finally ditch the sh*tty company run by a mongrel chauvinist?

vote-for11vote-against

You will "randomly" get 3 heather grey shirts right?

vote-for10vote-against

Well people were saying they thought Woot should advertise their weekly sale more. Who says woot never listens!!
I like the idea, it is after all a 'deal'. They are such comfy shirts, I am even sleeping in one right now :)

vote-for29vote-against

@gooseygoose: I've heard of sleepwalking, but never sleepwooting!

I'm sorry, I'll leave now

vote-for8vote-against

Still dislike that the banner on the page says '3 pack for 14.99' - if I put that on my store window, the customer would assume that pretty much any three pack of the appropriate shirt would be $14.99, not just the 'random' ones I purposefully put together.

That said, eh, lukewarm deal. Blank shirts are blank. Seriously, is the entire value that Woot adds to a shirt only $5? That sounds completely wrong to me.

I know you could go a whole lot worse than this deal, but if you just want blank t-shirts, I think you'd probably be better off getting in your car and doing a drive around town for the nearby 5 t's for $10 shop.

vote-for6vote-against

@kingu: Don't forget shipping costs...

vote-for14vote-against

Indeed if i could pick my colors ide be all over this..

vote-for7vote-against

This deal stinks, sometime back last fall they did not this but it was five shirts for a penny or two under 8$, so with a threefer it was 15 shirts for 29.00$, now that was a deal I would do again especially as only two of them came through as part synthetic and had to go to goodwill (skin allergies need the 100 % cotton)

vote-for11vote-against

@offgridmanpolktn: Were they the actual American Apparel shirts? I don't think so.

vote-for12vote-against

@jsoko: Correct - those 5-packs were not AA shirts.

FWIW, I did downvote this, as I'm still peeved at the switch. #0001 arrived today, printed on an AA-tagged blank - something we're not that likely to see from here on out.

@cowboydann: I sleep in my Woot shirts too. But then again, I have so many that technically, I won't have to do laundry until around Halloween.

vote-for5vote-against

@narfcake: Do you think those shirts were suppose to be Woot test replacement shirts?

vote-for5vote-against

http://shirt.woot.com/friends.aspx?k=24564 -- the sizing chart on each sale page tells you what to expect - that chart still shows USA for the origin source for the shirts.

And for things like that, it'll probably continue that way for a while to come, as they aren't printed on demand but in batches, and the AA shirts were all that was on hand up to a week ago.

vote-for6vote-against

I know it wont happen but I think it would be kind of funny if this deal went negative...

vote-for14vote-against

For those not in the know, more information here: http://shirt.woot.com/Forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=4856801

In a nutshell, Woot raised the prices on shirts $2 only to move away from american made American Apparel tees to inferior, cheaper to purchase wholesale, Anvil imported blanks. So they're getting rid of all of the AA shirts in a fire sale.

vote-for4vote-against

I don't know about American apparel but what came in my five packs were the top grade Hanes, and Fruit of the Looms that I have to order from sears at ten bucks or more each because I can't find them at local walmart or other discount stores. No defects, no seconds, at the time didn't see how they could do it but it was one of my early woot purchases that got me hooked on them.

vote-for10vote-against

I'm annoyingly conflicted by this sale. I don't like that they are moving away from the AA blanks at all--even though they aren't cut for me and I order a size up for DH because they shrink. But I've found that they truly are wonderful sleep shirts, super nice and soft.
So, frustratingly, the idea that woot would have a women's blank that would look good on me is attractive, but what got me to actually buy the t's at all is that they're the american-made AA shirts.
So, the idea of getting a bunch of the super comfy AA sleep shirts waaay cheap before I can't get them from woot at all is quite appealing. However, the idea if I do I just help them clearance out something for something that I'm not in favor of is very distasteful.

vote-for5vote-against

Wish they'd offer another 15 for less than $30 deal. All my shirts were, as the gentleperson said, from quality brands. No seconds. One orange that I thought was a great color (as long as it was one). The others were blues and greens.

Does this mean Woot is no longer going to offer that deal?

vote-for5vote-against

I was never keen on the yellow blurry questionmark on the white shirt.

The white blurry question mark on the green shirt is pretty cool though. I want one.

vote-for6vote-against

@captainsuperdawg: This would be the first time a non-Moofi and non-sellout woot site is sponsored

vote-for7vote-against

I wish the deal would let you pick the color(s) for the 3 for $14.99 deal, then I might buy one. But my luck will be that Woot will send me 3 blank white shirts, which will look no different than if I was running around in my underwear.

vote-for7vote-against

@cowboydann: I guess now you know my secret :( I have slept wooted many a times, thus my excessive stash of woot tees and some other random things. Some people drink warm milk or walk, I woot

vote-for5vote-against

Time to phase out some old T's so I bought 2 random packs. I hope I get 6 different colors. Fingers crossed for no cream color. May as well paint nipples on a cream colored shirt.

vote-for8vote-against

So the new Woot shirt blanks -- will these be American made like the AA shirts? One of the things I liked about shirt.woot was that the shirts were American made.

vote-for12vote-against

@audient: it looks like your ignorance is leading you down a path of downvotes, I upvoted you to bring you out of zero. You asked a great question that I was going to answer but figured I'd let someone with more knowledge give a better answer. The short version is They're moving to a company called Anvil. They're made in Honduras, and a lot of people (including me) are caboose cranky A. for the outsourcing, and B. This happening One month after a $2 increase to Prevent Outsourcing!

*I don't know, but maybe if they cut the price to 9.95 on shirts it would make things a little better, but I'd have to think about it still. It's obvious they don't plan to go back to AA, I'd just like some transparency as to why they kept the price hike AND outsourced shirts.

Here is a helpful link in case you missed the discussion yesterday

vote-for7vote-against

@cowboydann -- thank you for the clarification and the up vote. It wasn't clear to me what happened based upon this one thread here, the sizing chart still reflects made in the USA shirts. That is why I asked. And I'd be interested in a response from woot on the points you raise as well.

vote-for7vote-against

@audient: They're not really responding. Not the direct question of why with regards to the (obvious) profit motive, at least.

I spoke to my friend who does screen printing last night. He laughed at the notion of AA not being able to supply shirts in time. "If you were talking Alstyle, I'll believe it. With AA, any color I need, I can always count on picking them up the next day at the very worst."

vote-for5vote-against

@cowboydann: Hate to call you out, but the price increase was not to prevent outsourcing. It appears to have been a necessary price increase. I believe both events were separate in Woot's mind, at least from what I've seen/read.

vote-for4vote-against

@abramokids: I could have sworn I've seen shirt.woot as a sponsored deal at some point in the past. I think it may have been one of their random shirt days.

vote-for6vote-against

@hackman2007: No, I appreciate the calling out. As I said, I'm not educated too well in the ways of shirt.woot. I look to the likes of @narfcake and @bluejester for guidance, I even said I wasn't the best person to answer when I answered. I'm not a frequent to shirt woot and that's why I was hesitant to answer, I just hate when good answers get downvoted because they ask what someone would precieve to be a (for lack of a better term) dumb question. Not everyone checks woot every day and all answers deserve an answer. Just because you don't want to provide it doesn't mean you should downvote it.

Thanks for letting me know.

vote-for4vote-against

@kingu: So people would assume it's ok to open up the shirt packages and switch them around in order to get the color combos they want? That'd be cool to do, in a store?

Also everywhere it's says 3 pack it also says Random.

vote-for4vote-against

@cowboydann: I don't think the price change was to prevent outsourcing but because profit margins were low... Very shady that they increase profit margins by raising prices then by changing to cheaper blanks.

When the price raised, a Staff member posted:
"...As of today, Shirt.Woot's first-day price for t-shirts will increase to $12.

With a couple extra bucks to pump into the Shirt.Woot Wonder Machine of Fabulousness, we'll hit ever-higher heights of t-shirt glory. We've resisted any price increases for over four years now, and we think twelve dollars plus free shipping is still a pretty rad price for high-quality, exclusive graphic tees.

The sad fact is, nothing in our business - blank shirts, ink, labor, shipping - is getting any cheaper. A happier fact is that Shirt.Woot has a full roster of cool projects in the works for 2012, which we just couldn't do on the incredible shrinking margins of our old price..."

28" inches? that's way too short. I'm 6'1" and my inseam is only 30". I need taller shirts!

vote-for5vote-against

@randywalker: Belly shirts are coming back in style...Buy Buy Buy

vote-for2vote-against

@pinchecat:

I'm curious now. Out of the hundreds of comments across a few different threads about this, this is the only time I've seen a comment like this.

What do you mean by 'a sh**ty company run by a mongrel chauvinist'?

You've piqued my curiousity!

vote-for1vote-against

@bingo969: do some poking around about Dov Charney

vote-for7vote-against

@WOOT

I would love to have 3 more AA shirts, but I am voting down this deal because of "the switch."

Fellow Wooters, if you agree, please consider upvoting this comment.

vote-for1vote-against

I'm really sad that they're switching teh blank shirts too... but I have breen really wanting to get some blank AA shirts to have my own stuff printed, so yay!!!! Wish I could get 3 same colored shirts for 14.99 tho.

vote-for0vote-against

Old navy had 60/40 blend shirts for no more then 5 all the time DOWN VOTE BOOOO THIS PERSON

vote-for2vote-against

Hey woot--

If you have to change suppliers in order to stay profitable please do so. While I wish that the wootoff was more fun and the products were better deals than they are (I got hooked back with the zune sale, that one was awesome), I still want you to make money.

I hope that the buys you're getting on this sale help ya'll out. I bought some.
