Do they still charge a fee?

Too bad I haven't seen a coinstar since 1998.

They don't charge a fee if you accept a gift card instead of cash...This includes promotions...

According to their site: " Offer available July 26-Aug. 11, 2013, at these stores: Kroger, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, King Soopers, Dillons, City Market, Smith’s, Baker’s, Ralphs, QFC, and Gerbes." Has anybody got this to work at a store that is not on that list? The only Coinstar machine near me is at a Winn-Dixie and I would like some input before I go to the bank and get my quarters.

@keithjmc: What @tradergeorge said, PLUS: if you're in an area that has Kroger or Randall's/ Tom Thumb(there are others, I know) you get reward points- money off a gas purchase- when buying a gift card. You then use the gift card to buy gas, getting you more points. During some promotions, you can get double points.
Nice system, if you're in the right area.

These places all seem to be under the Kroger umbrella, so the promo might be only good there...

The Kroger thing where the purchase of gift cards gives extras fuel points, etc will probably not work with Coinstar, because getting fuel points requires swiping your Loyalty Card (Kroger Plus) to get credit. There is no way to do this on a Coinstar machine, so my bet is that you can't get it...I may be wrong, but I don't see how...

@tradergeorge: WHat you say is true, but at the Krogers near us, the gift card option results in a receipt which you take to customer service for a gift card. At that time you swipe your Rewards card.
