The Hobbit (Movie Tie-In) - Books on Google Play for $3
J.R.R. Tolkien's classic prelude to The Lord of the Rings trilogy—now available in a movie tie-in edition.
Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely traveling any farther than his pantry or cellar. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard Gandalf and a company of dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an adventure. They have launched a plot to raid the treasure hoard guarded by Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon. Bilbo reluctantly joins their quest, unaware that on his journey to the Lonely Mountain he will encounter both a magic ring and a frightening creature known as Gollum.
Written for J.R.R. Tolkien's own children, The Hobbit has sold many millions of copies worldwide and established itself as a modern classic.
Because a lot more goes on in 300 pages than you can fit in a 3 hour movie. If you start throwing out content, you end up with crappy movie versions like Narnia and Harry Potter.
up to I
@sailorspork: Far too true.
@ssiemonsma: My apologies for my ignorance, I truly did not know that there even WAS a planned trilogy of Hobbit movies. The comment makes total sense now, which leaves me with exactly the same question as sailorspork---why make the Hobbit into another trilogy?
@cole103 I don't think you read his comment very carefully. He was talking about the trilogy of The Hobbit movies that are in production based on the 300 page book. That means that there's going to be about 9 hours of movie created from a 300 page book. Really, I like the idea of not having to cut book material out, but they're also going to have to fabricate some material to fill 3 incredibly long movies. (Thus his Cliff Notes joke)
@sailorspork: Are you just trying to be snarky with your comment, or are you truly not familiar with the books in the "Ring Trilogy"? And just exactly how would YOU create a series depicting a trilogy of books? What, maybe 3 "baffling" movies? (Now THAT'S snarky)
This is the original ~300 book (316 pages it says), which means it will be the cliff notes version of Peter Jackson's bafflingly 3-part epic "The Hobbit" trilogy.
I think the consensus last time was that the only movie related change was a different cover image taken from the movie. That's based on the copyright date and preface in the text.

What does "Movie Tie-in edition" mean? Is this book any different than the original The Hobbit book?
