Section 8 High Performance Earbuds for $0.99 + $5.00 shipping
‘Tis better to have listened and lost than never to have listened at all.
Where's the Pink Floyd buds? I saw these at FYE in the mall for $10. Don't hold out on us and keep the good one for yourselves.
I got 3 of these about 6 months ago, and I just moved to my last pair, so for me they seem to last about 3 months. They are strictly used at my desk, not abused at all, and they just seem to quit (odds are a weak point develops in the main wire, not well enough protected or not a heavy enough gauge, and what always seems to happen is that one ear gets quieter, then just goes out completely, and the other ear follows shortly after).
They perform well enough for my standards as long as they work, but at $8 for 3 it's right on the edge of "worth it", figure about a buck per month of use. If you get one of the pairs that breaks sooner, well, sucks for you, and if you get a pair that lasts longer you did well.
BUYER BEWARE!! Bought 3 pairs with this deal a few months back. Every pair was dead within a couple weeks of opening
Yea I'll just add to the chorus of "woot'd them a while ago, and they all fell apart on me". Good for $.99 I suppose, but not really worth the hassle of replacing every couple of months imo
Fantastic deal. EVERY single time these come up, I grab three pair. The way my family treats earbuds, it's criminal! At these prices, however, I'm able to stay out of the poorhouse. Verdict? Decent quality earbuds that don't cost a mint. Better than the $5.00 earbuds sold @ Five Below. Even with tax & shipping it's a solid steal.
Bought three last time. The replacement tips are the same size as those that come on the earbuds. If you need smaller tips, these won't be useable for you.
Why don't I ever get coupons??
Every time this kind of bud comes up I want to buy them but I have set of Skullcandy ones and they make my ears itch like you wouldn't believe.
Every pair broke within a week, without manhandling or anything. Just shoddy product.
I got a few pairs of these on Woot the last time. They were such a great deal but they were not the best headphones. The sound quality was pretty good but they all kept falling apart. Not bad for the price, just keep some krazy glue handy.
Got these last time they were up. With 3 kids, you really can't beat the price. All 3 of the previous ones are still working too, so these are backups :)
I got three pairs last time these were up, they are all crap. However, there were some cool magnets in the packaging.

I like to grab deals like this because at $1 each (free shipping with my coupon!), even if each pair only lasts me a week, they're worth it. I've bought $20 earbuds that broke within a couple weeks, and I've bought $4 earbuds that lasted me months and months. I'm going to assume that anything other than pricey ones will be a luck of the draw thing, and will have to be replaced within the same amount of time.
Edit: Just thought I'd point out that sound quality isn't a huge issue for me, I use these at the computer so that my speakers aren't blaring out loud. I can't really be a fair judge on sound quality between brands.
These earbuds are way too fragile. Bought 4 pair last time and all four were broken within a week. Simply pulling the earbud out of your ear causes them to break in half.
@niftyfifty: You actually need to be an active member on the site (commenting, voting, posting deals/questions); not just signed up.
I bought three pairs late in 2011 -- none of them held up more than a month. In fact, two of them literally fell apart when I removed them from the package. The other had uneven speaker wire lengths.
I received a set of these in a BOC, and was realy happy with the sound quality... until the wiring came loose in one of the earbuds. The biggest problem is that the braided wires (which are great for resisting damage) have nothing locking them into the earbud. The wire can be pushed in and pulled out freely, which can lead to breakage.
Bought two of these last time they were on Woot. The ear pieces broke the first time I used them and won't stay together through a workout.
in for one i just love Elvis so we will see how good they work.
Like others, I got these on woot last time and they fell apart within two weeks. The companies support never responded to repeated emails. DO NOT BUY!!
I ordered three of these from here previously. If you're an audio snob, well you wouldn't be buying these anyway. For the price they are great backups though. I have one at work, in the car and at home. All still work and work pretty well for $0.99.
Bought 3 for 3.21. Gotta love that coupon.
Anybody know how these compare to the Wicked Little Buds Woot sold a few times? Looks like the last for those was in 2010. I bought 3 of those every chance I got -- think I ended up with 6 of them. LOVED those. Super comfortable. Sound was fine. (I'm not an audiophile, I wouldn't really notice unless it pretty much didn't work at all.) The ones I can still find still work. I like to stash them in various places (glove compartment of car, purse, etc.) so I always have some when I need them.
Sounds like maybe these are less sturdy. Trying to decide if I want to bother.
I bought 3 some time ago on Woot to replace the Sony ones my dog ate. I have not had any problems and they work better than the $25+ ones that I tried to use. They stay in my ears and the sound is good. I like the soft bud.. my ears are small and many others I have tried, just fall out. I keep each of them rolled up in a round tin (empty chocolate wedge tin from Trader Joes) .. and they show no signs of coming apart like others report.I travel a LOT and use them not only for music or watching tv on planes, but I use them to keep away the sounds of screaming babies or engine noise or snoring of the guy next to me.
I am in for 3 more.
Gasp! I ordered 3 pairs, intending to use my Jumbowoot coupon and forgot to put the coupon code in! facepalm
these are kinda a POS. for $5 shipping; kills the deal, they are not worht $6... as they were on woot a few months ago the price was worth it.
the cable came out of its sheath (it is a fabric sheath with a crappy cable inside) so has these "loops" all over the cable. the left driver went dead after a few uses.... for $6 id save for a set of $18 skullys and get something lasting more than 3 months...
I got some of these previously from Woot. I have never had a set of earphones break faster than these. Not worth it even at this price. I went through a pair a week.
These sound terrible. They are terrible. They aren't worth $8. It is literally a waste of money. take $8, set it on fire. You now have fertilizer. that is more useful than these.
Seems like Woot was a SellOut on sending me a coupon! WTF
Ugggggggggggh! I just bought new earbuds last week!!!
@mtrlgrl: E-mail service@woot.com, explain the situation, and kindly ask for them to apply the coupon.
@novastarj: Thanks! I gave it a try.
KISS for me, Elvis for the gf, and the Who to backup.
If you don't want any of the logos on the earbuds, a small dallop of your favorite (or, her favorite) fingernail polish will take care of that!
These aren't noise cancelling then?
MMMMM...Gene Simmon's tongue in BOTH my ears!!!...just like that night in 1984.
I have a pair and they have lasted for 6 months now. Granted I only use them to drowned out the people I work with, so not much chance for abuse. But none the less they are still working great!
Isn't there a three year warranty with these? For everyone who is complaining that they broke so fast, did you try to get the company to honor it? A couple reviews on Amazon said that the company was good about sending replacement headphones if they break. If you buy two pairs and they honor the warranty, you should be able to keep a solid headphone rotation for three years.
The problem is, they're so cheap that it's not worth the trouble of sending them back when they break -- or doing anything at all other than throwing them in the trash. My son's lasted a week or two. I got three last time, but I'll pass on this go-round.
Also: using the Jumbowoot coupon on this deal instead of a future deal seems great but is a logical error. $5 is $5, whether it reduces the price from $8 to $3 or $28 to $23. The perceived value is greater, but the actual value is exactly the same. (Cracked.com has a great article, "6 Counterintuitive Tricks to Beating Popular Game Shows", that makes some similar points.)
These are actually really good headphones. They have great sound quality, and you cant beat the price.
Got a pair of these last time around. The who buds are blue with blue cord. Look cool, sound marginal. Good extras
Bought 2 pairs last time. Didn't even last a month...
Glad these came back! My cat just gnawed-through my last pair.
@craigthom: Yeah, these tend to be rather hit or miss. I bought three last time they were up. One pair was useless after about 30 minutes (one of the earbuds stopped putting out sound), but the other two held up for a few months. For me, that's pretty good. I tend to go through a pair of earbuds about once a month.
I bought three last time they came up here... all 3 of them are not working anymore. 2 stopped working within the first week and the 3rd one within the first month. Mine didn't break like others mentioned here, they just didn't emit sound. I wouldn't waste my money on these.
The packaging is cool though. :-/
In for 3; not much of a loss, even if they die relatively quickly.
I bought 3 pair last time they were on Woot. The sound and comfort was okay, but 2 pair fell apart within a week of wear and the other had a short in the wiring and could only hear out of 1 bud. They fell apart at the seam, like others have mentioned, and not because of rugged use...I just use mine in the car to listen to books on my Kindle. It's a shame they didn't last longer, because I loved the cord. Despite my issues with them, I'm still going to order 3 pair because: 1) I love a good deal, 2) I have since invested in a bottle of super glue that I will use to reinforce the seam, and 3) I hate the ones I have now.
I picked up 3 of these the last time they were on woot! and I have not been disappointed. They hold up better than the vast majority of cheap earbuds I've had, and my wife loves to use them for jogging because they fit so well and don't tend to wiggle out at all.
Overall. Would recommend and would consider getting 3 more myself, but am on a tight grad-student budget.
I think ill pass on these. i picked up a pair of meelectronics CX21's from a woot sale last year and after two cycles through the wash (and one through the dryer), they're still kicking. god use of 10 bucks, and they sound great.
I bought three pair of these before, one for me, one for my sister, and one for my mom. All three came apart within weeks; however, I used 'Household Goop' glue on mine, and they've never come apart again; my yep dad used superglue on the other two, and they didn't hold very long, assumingly because the housing is metal. You might try the Goop, if you have it handy, or some epoxy should also work. Otherwise, I'm happy with these as a regular-use earbud, though they aren't the best sound. You try putting them through a break-in cycle (you can find programs online to do this), which may make the drivers sound better.
