Intriguing - and I'm guessing that, if you make them yourself, they'll be something like a more natural version? Maybe? Or does the kit include a million preservatives??

@magyargirl: I dunno, but if the kit doesn't come with a million preservatives IM OUT!

I need my preservatives!! Otherwise, this kit looks awesome.

Actually twinkies did not have any preservatives in them.

vote-for-8vote-against

Well it can't really be much like a regular twinkie since real twinkie's are not baked.

Can you say BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY of the decade?! ;-)

some real unintelligent poops* in here today.

@holmant: twinkies do in fact contain sorbic acid.....

@minion1021: umm, yes they are.

*wedit :)

@ckeilah: Not really. Hostess is selling off some of its brands, and it is expected that Twinkies could be back on shelves in as little as a few months.

And Twinkies aren't all that good anyway. Start selling a Ding Dong maker, though, and that would be a whole different story.

I had this a while ago. I bought it on sale at Bed Bath and Beyond. It was cute. The cakes I made looked like Twinkies and kinda-sorta tasted like Twinkies, but when I moved I got rid of it because I didn't use it enough to justify keeping.

Also, keep in mind that this doesn't come with a mix--just the cake pan, the pastry bag, and a recipe booklet.

Google the food unwrapped episode on twinkies
baked sponge cake that originally had banana flavored cream but sold much better with vanilla.
They had minimal preservatives - and went stale very quickly. Most people who complain about preservatives in them probably never had a fresh one.
I'm pretty sure one of the food network shows (good eats maybe) did a segment on making your own with no special pan.

@pitamuffin: A Ding Dong maker might attract the wrong crowd.....

Puffed garbage that will clog your arteries, raise your cholesterol, raise your blood pressure, and contribute to getting diabetes . . Yep, that pretty much sums up the perfect item to be considered "An American Original".

If anything, you can use the baking sheet to make your own tacos with smaller tortillas. Nice, delicious twinkie tacos.

@undave: There are some kids on your lawn to chase off. Better get out there.

Give a man to Twinkie, and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to bake Twinkies, and he will eat for a lifetime.

@dgrimmer: Yes, but build a man a fire and he'll be warm for an evening. Set a man on fire and he'll be warm the rest of his life!

I would be wary of an ebay seller that gets 1-3 negative feedbacks a day and doesn't respond to the complaints regardless of how many positives ones they received. How a seller treats the sales gone bad speaks louder than how many they got right. Seems like to buy from them may be rolling the dice if something goes wrong.

@shaggymook: Or the right crowd depending on what one fancies?

@dgrimmer: Yes, and it will be a considerably shorter lifetime.
