Between my father and me, we have a k20d, k7, and a kx - all of them are great. To top it off, they've been using the same mount for years (read: a lot of used lenses available that are cheap) and the image stabilization is built into the body. I would highly recommend any pentax dSLR.

Another K-mount DSLR! They tempt me so. My old 35mm film camera is a K-mount, so I have lenses for this. Anybody use old lenses with the new equipment? Should be straightforward, right? Well, with an adapter (according to item text). Wonder what those cost... (google, here I come...)

No adapter needed unless you have a screw mount (M42) lens. Old k-mount will work without any adapters. Most of the lenses I use on my cameras are over 20 years old. That's the beauty of a pentax.

Just thought I'd log in and contribute. I have a K200d and really love it for what it is. It's a little older, so it has less features than this, but this seems to be their new entry model. Either way, I've been using old lenses which our in good supply on Ebay and they work great. No adapter needed (unless it's a really old screw mount one) Just search "K-mount" on ebay.

This looks like a K200d with newer features like video for instance! Pentax makes high quality stuff people. This would be a great beginner SLR.

I should also mention that I bought a white kx with the same lens for around $380 in June 2010. So there have been better deals.

The kx is also great in low light. Highly recommend it for a beginner.

I have a K-x that I love. Highly recommended to beginners. Definitely good enough to "grow with you" as well.

I started with a K20D (Purchased here at Woot) and loved it. I got the K5 about 3 months ago and it's great. I ended up purching about 40 old lenses (Between $20 - $100) and they all work great. A few use the M42 mount which the adapter cost $30. Go over to Pentax Forums here: http://www.pentaxforums.com/index.php Look at some of the pictures that people are taking with these older lenses that are over 40 to 50 yrs old. Even people who have Canon buy an adapter to use Pentax glass. You can find a ton of help there as well, plus user reviews on the K-X. They have gone for less, but I don't think you'll be seeing the price go below this again.

Here a link to the M-Club. http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/lens-clubs/27739-m-club.html It's a group of people who post pictures using old Manual Pentax lenses.

I've been a member there since Nov of last year and they have been really good at helping out newbie's like myself.

It's unbelievable how much prices have dropped.

This is a great, and solid camera.

This is VERY tempting. I have been looking at getting into the SLR world but didn't wanna spend half a fortune. Gets GREAT reviews here and on Amazon

I have this camera with the same kit lens as well as a 55-300mm. The kit lens is quite good, and I have gotten some good shots with it. The 55-300 is also an excellent value for the image quality and power of the telephoto. This camera uses AA batteries with is both a pro and a con I suppose.

I also have an old Asashi Pentax-M K-mount 50mm F1.7 prime. This camera does work just fine with old lenses, but keep in mind that old manual lenses don't communicate with the camera. This means that you'll have to shoot in manual mode and be diligent with metering. If you are going to use older lenses, you may want to consider Pentax-A versions, which will only require manual focusing.
