This is great! Also, if you want to use Paypal rather than Groupon, https://www.paypal-donations.com/pp-charity/web.us/campaign.jsp?cid=-12 There is no fee for the organizations for tax exempt organizations providing relief in Japan until April 10 (https://www.thepaypalblog.com/)

I got a better idea how about you donate to the 3.5 million homeless here in the US instead. We have many problems right here that need dealt with but if you feel so inclined to donate to some other country then maybe you should pack and leave the good ol' USA. I do feel for the victims of any natural disaster but holy crap people we have such a huge need here but unfortunatly it doesn't posess the same "je ne sais quoi" as donating to a foreign aid.

vote-for18vote-against

I'm glad you are concerned about my charitable donations. I do indeed support causes in the US. Japan also supported us during our times of recent need.

@oldhess: Your comment is disgusting. There are people dead and hurting and you're trying to dissuade people from helping just because they live far away from you. I hope you are a troll because if not you are human garbage.

@oldhess: I'm sure there are other venues where your views would be more welcome. Let me suggest you check out IHaveLimitedMoralVisionAndTheSoulOfASpider.org

@ali1331 thanks for the paypal link, missionfish is a pretty great way to donate

vote-for5vote-against

wow I'm garbage because I think there are greater needs here on our home land? Well I salute the American flag, rise for the national anthem and prey to god everynight that our country will be protected while all our efforts are wasted abroad. I am sorry that you have been duped into believing that America is running perfectly so we should focus our efforts on everyone elses problems. I'm pretty sure there is a verse in the bible about the moat in your neighbors eye and a beam in your own. Pretty applicable here. I do think it is horrible what happened it sucks but do you know how many American veterans that saved us from Japan's tyranny died in the streets cold homeless and forsaken by the very citizens they saved? All I'm saying is do some thinking before you blindly write a check to someone you don't know when your neighbors kids are starving and dying right here in our own land

vote-for7vote-against

@oldhess I agree, it is important to recognize the obsurdity of trying to remove the stick in someone else's eye when you have a beam in your own.

Not saying you're garbage, but you are a magnificent troll, and I think we can both agree that it's important to donate to the needy. So let's not whine about which needy person gets your attention, hmmmkay?

vote-for9vote-against

@dizzahgee: "wow I'm garbage because I think there are greater needs here on our home land?"

Nope. That's not why. It's because people like you only make our country, and the world, worse. No one has suggested that people should only donate to foreign causes.

Your hatred of people unlucky enough to be born on a different continent is quite clear. You claim to care about human life but only if they are living in the same area as you are. You quote the bible trying to justify not giving even a tiny five dollar donation to help ease the suffering of human beings.

No, you aren’t garbage because of your patriotism or because you care about domestic aid. You are garbage because you see this disaster and say you think it’s horrible but you would ignore their suffering and try to convince other people into ignoring it as well.

vote-for6vote-against

@oldhess: While I agree that there are plenty of people in need in this country as well, you really are just acting like a troll. Instead of just rambling on with Bible verses which don't make sense (the splinter/beam verse is about recognizing your own sin before you point out someone else's sin), why don't you post a deal for a organization that takes donations for helping the homeless in the States? :/

vote-for2vote-against

Has anyone looked up this org to find out how much of each dollar has reached past disasters? Donate to the Salvation Army and write on your check Japan Disaster Relief. The almighty Red Cross get about 70 percent of donations to the scene. The S A gets over 94%.

vote-for1vote-against

@art531: The Salvation Army is one of the organizations listed on the Paypal link (https://www.paypal-donations.com/pp-charity/web.us/campaign.jsp?cid=-12). You have to select it from the pull-down menu at the bottom of the page.

vote-for3vote-against

@oldhess If it would help you feel more generous in this situation, there are Lots of AMERICANS who were in Japan when this disaster happened, which means that they can benefit from donations as well. Just saying...

vote-for1vote-against

The Wall street bailout was the death of good old America. She has been sold out to corruption. These people are in need as much as anyone. If you want us to donate to American causes post a link and stop your rambles.

I donated just for the entertainment value of this thread.

@guswalken: "I don't believe many things such as religion and politics, but I do believe in the theory/idea of karma."

So you don't believe in anything that runs the world; but you run your little world on the hopes & dreams of "karma"... Have fun living in your own little bubble...

& trust me Ms. Gus Walken nothing bad happens to me... NOTHING!

vote-for4vote-against

@oldhess: Props to you! I agree 100% with you! People want to donate to Haiti, Japan, Ethiopia, etc but care nothing about the home land. Then when you bring it up to someone you're considered garbage, a troll, whatever simply because you are the one leading the crowd, the charge & the call to take care of our own first.

These same people on here won't give a $1.00 to a bum on the freeway off ramp because he's going to waste it on booze; but they will give $5-$10-$20 to foreign aid where 99.9% of it is going to be wasted & NOT reach the "victims".

vote-for2vote-against

This would be nice, but Japan is the world second or thirdchina passed em economy. The money is just gona be wasted on the charity it self and not the people since the government can easily repair the country.

In the case of Hatti, yeah that is different since their government was broke already and they were stuck in a rut. This is not the case, don't waste your money on this scam. Groupon and the specific charity are not gona have any of this money see Japan.

vote-for3vote-against

@oldhess: Just because you don't want to help those victims in Japan doesn't mean nobody else should. Pack their crap and leave the good ol US? I thought the freedom to do what we want is what made this country great. I'm sure you are doing everything you can to help the homeless here. Good for you and good for everyone else who helps anyone, weather here or in a foreign country. We are all human.

vote-for3vote-against

@oldhess: Nobody says you're garbage because you want to help the homeless. I think they call you that because you tell them to leave the country if they want to help someone else as well. For my part, I help where I can, regardless of what country the help is needed in.

vote-for2vote-against

@kevskoolkars: So what makes someone in the US so much more deserving of help than someone outside of the US?

vote-for2vote-against

@iteach2dive: 1) I think it's funny that people give to anything to help anyone... It's all about making yourself fell better. You nor anyone else really cares about other people. Face it. It's all about the warm fuzzies you feel, nothing else.

2) If your house is burning down & a guy down the street whom you've never met house is burning down who's house are you going to save? Your own! DUH! You take care of your own first & always!

vote-for2vote-against

@iteach2dive: Do what you want with your water (cash in this case) when your house is burning down, just don't complain later about a problem here at home you & others could have spent that money on to have helped fixed first.

vote-for7vote-against

@oldhess: I have an even BETTER idea, troll. How about you donate where YOU want to, and stop telling others where they should donate.

vote-for1vote-against

@kevskoolkars

So, we donate not because there are people in need, but because we have the expectation that when we are in need, people will donate to us?

vote-for2vote-against

@dizzahgee: I never said that... Can you not read or comprehend? I would donate to a fund to help you with that, but I don't care.

I have to agree with the others. The US has record debt, record homeless, record unemployeed but we still send million of dollars to other countries to help them.

It's a tragic event but when is the US going to start helping the US out?

vote-for2vote-against

"This isn't talking about the government helping Japan out, this is a link for individuals who are choosing to do so. Yes we have our own problems, yes we have record unemployment and homelessness, hence why the US Government response has been somewhat limited. \r\n\r\nStateside we are at least alive and safe. We don't have to worry about a rogue nuclear reactor or clean food & water. Japan however, does. \r\n\r\nWhen we had 9/11 and Katrina there was an outpouring of support from the world. Even countries whose GDP is smaller than some states volunteered and pledged help.\r\n\r\nWhen we lose sight that we are all we have in this world, then humanity is truly doomed. Those of you who are saying we should not help out need their perspectives checked."

I just found this organization called Disastees.com that is donating ALL their proceeds of their Japanese Hope T-Shirt to the International Medical Corps to help out during this mess. It's only $15.75 a shirt. I just bought one... so comfy.

Check it out.
