Excluding the HP Touchpad? WTF?

vote-for1vote-against

I'll go by my local Staples and see what they have - the Toshiba Thrive is what I'm looking for and only have a $75 off at OfficeMax.

vote-for6vote-against

Um...lets' see RayRay...a company, HP, releases a new product...and lets' put it on sale with the rest of the products that have been out for 6+ months...that's a smart business decision. Of course it's not included. My local store has had it in stock for less than a week. Why would they mark it down? Did you really expect it to be included?

vote-for1vote-against

Damnit, I just posted this then saw you did and had to delete my post.

Anyway, a great deal. I hope my local Staples has the ASUS Transformer in stock... how can I possibly pass one up a $299?

vote-for3vote-against

Here's a listing of all their "Tablets" according to the website: http://www.staples.com/sbd/cre/marketing/technology-research-centers/tablets/shop-tablets.html

Another good deal looks like the Dell Streak 7 for a mere $199.

vote-for3vote-against

Awesome! Asus Transformer YOU ARE MINE!!!!!

vote-for3vote-against

I think I'm going to pick up an Iconia now.

Damnit.

Woot is the best/worst thing that ever happened to me.

vote-for1vote-against

@pyxientx: +1 !!!! calling my local store now to see if they have one in stock...

vote-for1vote-against

@novastarj: I did the same thing, lol - had to delete mine aswell

vote-for1vote-against

I think the Iconia is the best purchase in the list. Discuss

vote-for10vote-against

FYI regarding out of stock tablets....

I called my local store and they do not have the Transformer in stock, but they said that I can go to the in-store online kiosk and order the Transformer. The kiosk has an option asking if you want to pay at the register. Select this method, then pay at the register and they'll accept the coupon.

No idea if this is a national or local policy, but I wanted to give people a head's up, something to try at your local store if the tablet you want is unavailable.

vote-for1vote-against

yeah, they are completely out of stock (transformer) in almost all locations, said the rep I spoke with. Very good timing, Staples. Trying to trick us into buying a different tablet. No thanks.

vote-for1vote-against

I'm not sure why they felt the need to exclude the Nook and Kindle in their disclaimer since they are both considered electronic readers and not tablets. Does that mean the other ereaders will be accepted with the coupon?

vote-for2vote-against

Lookin at that acer icona...

vote-for0vote-against

That Acer Icona is looking quite sexy, my brother and sister just bought 2 at another store for 450, they're gonna be pissed when i show them this

vote-for1vote-against

@rayray8822: If you have a palm os phone, there is a $50 mail in rebate to hp.

Not as good, but at least it's something.

vote-for2vote-against

I've owned the Acer Iconia and the Asus Transformer, the Transformer is better IMO. But both are great tablets.

vote-for0vote-against

Do you have to pay monthly for a data plan or can you just use the wifi wherever it's available?

vote-for1vote-against

Went in to store... They do not sell the Asus Eee pad transformer in the store, so that kind of defeats the purpose of this whole deal. I tried the Acer and wasn't impressed with build quality. The Acer was still marked as $449. I decided to walk away from the deal due to the incompetance of the workers at Staples and the poor build quality of the Acer Iconia.

vote-for0vote-against

@promyst: Would you care to give maybe the most important differences from your experience?

Kind of on the fence myself.

vote-for1vote-against

@triciajl86: Just the wifi wherever it is available

vote-for1vote-against

Bummer! I bought my Asus Transformer 16 gig two weeks ago at Fry's Electronics. Too late to return!

By the way, LOVE the Asus Transformer!

vote-for1vote-against

@mwattsx: The screen on the ASUS is an IPS screen so it has much darker blacks and a better viewing angle, and the ASUS had a grippy backing vs the slick aluminum of the Acer, those were my two features that I liked more.

vote-for0vote-against

@promyst: Thanks. Didn't know about the better-gripping backside. I can imagine the IPS is really nice. That host USB port in the Acer (without having to shell for an accessory) is big to me though.

vote-for1vote-against

There are way too many tablet suppliers jumping into the market - most must logically die and some will die soon.

If you think the deals are good now on tablets, there will be desperation in November and capitulation in January 2012. IMHO.

vote-for1vote-against

@dumbamerican: I thought Fry's had a 30-day renta... er, return policy, including on laptops?

Think I may spring for one of these myself; though I already own a Viewsonic gTab, the screen on it really is annoying to use, getting just the right angle and keeping it there for extended periods.
For anyone who owns an ASUS Transformer and a Nook Color, how do the screens compare on viewing angle/color vibrance? Understand that they're both IPS panels, but curious as to how they match up.

vote-for1vote-against

DAMNIT, I can't believe I just bought the transformer for 399 :(

vote-for1vote-against

@mwattsx: I do miss the USB port, but I rarely used it. For some that may be a deal breaker. Good luck with your decision :)

vote-for2vote-against

I printed this out and went to Staples on my lunch to pick up the Iconia. So far... I love it. $299 for the tablet, and no tax in Oregon. Best deal yet. I'm glad I didn't buy it at best buy this weekend when I really wanted to.

vote-for0vote-against

Just bought the Acer Iconia tab $314 after taxs or so.

vote-for1vote-against

According to the Droid-Life comments Office Depot will accept Staples coupons as well (they are competitors).

vote-for0vote-against

Just bought the Dell 7. Great deal @ $199! I have 14 days to return it, no questions asked, no restocking fees charged. Finally a nice size WIFI I can carry in my pocket. Just 3 more left in my store. Get out there!

vote-for0vote-against

@bangchan: Yea the no questions asked 14 day return is nice. Don't fall for their warranty, get square-trades at 1/2 the price. The GPS looks amazing on 10.1 screen. Part of the reason for my purchase :) Downloading some HD games at the moment.

vote-for4vote-against

@cyborgcommando0: I just called my local Office Depot and the manager told me that they received info today from their corporate offices on how they should handle these coupons. He said they could only accept the coupon for the Playbook and for Acer's tablet.

Bummer \=

vote-for0vote-against

@imnotoct: Just show up in store to another location, don't call first. Select the tablet you want and ask a younger looking store rep to get the device for you. If they say anything just argue argue argue and point to the printed limitations :) Good Luck!

vote-for0vote-against

@justonebrat So get some kid in trouble by pressuring him/her to take a coupon they feel they shouldn't? You've apparently never worked in retail..

vote-for2vote-against

Thanks, robert.fisherga at gmail dot com!

vote-for1vote-against

@mortar235: First of all if they feel they should not accept it they will get the manager first, which is the point. The coupon specifically states what you cannot use it for, for them to add additional conditions not even specified on the coupon is not right.

You are either the bully, or the bullied.

vote-for2vote-against

No Asus, No thanks. smells eerily similar to the radioshack $100 xbox 360 elite "deal".

Can't even order online: both asus versions show out of stock :(

vote-for0vote-against

@jrunnah: If you go in store they will usually tell you they can order you one and u can pay now, try that route.

vote-for2vote-against

Went to Best Buy today w coupon in hand, 45 min and 2 managers later i left w 16gb transformer for $299 + tax. Was a pain but worth the $100 savings.

vote-for1vote-against

Girlfriend and I went to Office Depot on lunch (11:30am CST) today and got the Asus Transformer. They accepted this coupon with no problem. Manager wanted to validate it was real (wanted to see the website.) Got the Transformer for $299 :)

Great Woot! Deal

vote-for1vote-against

FYI - I just went into my local store and they obviously didn't have the Galaxy Tab 10.1 32Gb (no staples stores do). So I purchased in the store and they are shipping to me for free...coupon applied. Bottom line is that it DOES NOT HAVE to be in-stock. They will let you purchase anything they have online and apply the coupon...and ship to you for free. Amazing.

vote-for1vote-against

Local store (SF Bay Area) says that nobody in the area has the Asus - Staples HQ is holding back and they are coming in August 1, of course the day after the coupon expires.

vote-for1vote-against

made use of this yesterday to pick up a motorola xoom (which I'm typing this from now) been wanting one for a while anyway and this made it a good deal.

oh yes, forgot to mention mine was an open box (had been pulled out once to show a customer what it looked/worked like) so they gave me an additional 10% off with the coupon. sweet.

vote-for1vote-against

I just got an Acer Iconia at my local Office Depot down the street with the Staples coupon. All Staples in my area are OOS and keep giving me the run around of when they should have more in stock. I called and 10 minutes later, I was walking out triumphantly with a brand new tablet. Warm fuzzies for Office Depot.

vote-for0vote-against

@imnotoct: I was told Office Depot will only price match it if a local Staples has it in stock. All of the Staples near me are completely sold out of everything.

vote-for1vote-against

For everyone who is trying to order a tablet from Staples and they are told that it has to be in-stock. I know for fact that if they place the order on their system in the store and the order is paid in the store that your coupon will be honored. What some people are experiencing, especially in the competitors stores, is a case of management 'CYA'. Push where you will but understand that these people are just looking out for themselves so be pervasive not rude.

vote-for0vote-against

@crystal20874: Thanks for the tip to those who mentioned Office Depot matching the coupon. I got rejected at one Office Depot, but then another seemed happy to help. Got an Iconia for $300 from Office Depot.
