A 52oz can of Planters peanuts is 8.48 at Sam's club around here, but having it show up at your door is more convenient than driving to the store and waiting in line, so still a pretty good find.

Yes - I found planters at Costco for $1.99 a pound - and I bought it - but in addition to being a smaller, less tasty peanut, Planter's "Roasted Peanuts" includes a variety of spices that * up the taste of the peanut butter.

I DID find, just once, and only five left over cans, another peanut company at costco that came to 2.10 a pound and was just peanuts and salt - but it was right after I ordered these and I didn't feel like doing a return. Haven't seen it since.

That's a lot of nuts. Does anyone know the expiration date on these?

@jimnms:
Most nuts never expire, they just get better with therapy. Wait, wrong kind of nuts. Seriously, we just bought this brand at our local grocery store and it was stamped with a "best by" date of January 2014. While they don't address peanuts specifically on their website (technically they are not a "nut"), they do offer this: http://www.diamondnuts.com/products/faq/

@gasdark: Were those the Planter's Dry Roasted Peanuts or the Planter's Extra Large Virginia Peanuts with Sea Salt? I was referring to the latter. Their "Dry Roasted" ones are pretty tasty but they have paprika and onion seasoning so I'd imagine those would make for some strange peanut butter. The Planters Virginia peanuts should be fine though.
You can also sometimes find good deals on various "Hickory Harvest" brand bulk foods and nuts, but their quality is sometimes a little hit and miss on certain products. I think they buy from a variety of sources.

@kmartind: Oh, I think you're right - the sea salt ones. But then I've never seen the Virginia Peanuts as cheap as these peanuts here, so I guess I feel even better about this one.
