Just like the cake I knew it was too good to be true.

vote-for8vote-against

all things considered, it's still a really good price

vote-for94vote-against

Hey guys - Tris from Secondipity here. The $14.99 price is a Woot whoops, but I'll sacrifice my (much needed) beauty sleep to answer any questions best I can :)

vote-for5vote-against

also no image on the site but an image on woot?

vote-for23vote-against

@trissecondipity: I notice your site says a portion of the proceeds will be donated to classrooms in Need. Thats pretty sweet IMHO. Is there a particular organization you're donating through?

Edit: I notice you go through doantions choose, and also support your own projects.

Looking through what Secondipity does for the community, I may be in for 3 anyway... Get my Eyefinity setup completed....

Seriously check it out:

Sucks that it is mislabeled, but the vendor shouldn't have to suffer for deals.woot's mistake. Still a great price though.

vote-for13vote-against

@mmoconnor: what a shame, its obviously woot's blunder and should in no way affect your opinion of secondipity.

vote-for18vote-against

@firetire100: That's an issue on our end and one we've been working on all evening. I was on the verge of coming down with a case of the Murphy's law blues, but (besides the mysterious image) everything is working as it should on Secondipity's end.

vote-for9vote-against

@trissecondipity: Thanks for your time and sorry that this happened to you all.

vote-for9vote-against

@trissecondipity: what kind of inputs does this have?

vote-for12vote-against

@drchops: I notice that, too. Although I am also quite disappointed to see some non-white triangle Deals.Wooters are being highly unreasonable. Who would expect an LG 22" monitor to be $15?

This is not the retailer's fault. At $99, this is still a VERY good price. Here's the link to the Google Shopping search: http://tinyurl.com/65ek8q8, next lowest refurbished price is $152.38. $99 can only be had from Ebay.

vote-for-24vote-against

@lll0228: Actually, $99 for a used/refurb isn't all that great. I can walk into a local Microcenter and pick up a new 22" LCD for the same price. And don't fall for the 5,000,000:1 "dynamic" contrast ratio hype. I don't know where they got that, but even LG's manual doesn't mention this nor the native contrast ratio & brightness.

@jvolock: I e-mailed and called PrettyWootPrincess when I saw the listing error, but haven't heard back. I don't blame her if she's sleeping (gotta get that username somehow, right?) and everyone makes mistakes - I'm sure all will be righted in a few hours.

vote-for12vote-against

@kuoh: If you are new to Deals.Woot, I suggest that you back up your claims with some links. I did.

This is an honest mistake on Deals.Woot's part. I think many experience Deals.Wooters like @drchops are speaking out. You guys please stop with the negativity. This is not the vendor's fault, they are the victim.

And in this case, the mistake is blatantly obvious, and is entirely forgivable.

vote-for2vote-against

@trissecondipity: Hi, Tris, I have a question. According to the Secondipity page, the dimensions of this monitor are 15.3" x 20" x 16.5". Which one of those is a typo? (A "flat-panel" monitor can't possibly be over 15 inches thick.)

vote-for6vote-against

@trissecondipity: Glad that you are handling it calmly. Well done.

vote-for5vote-against

@patberry: you can make a flat pannel as thick as you want... This is an alternative energy flat pannel that uses a campfire for a backlight. :-D My guess is its 1.53 inches thick

vote-for-39vote-against

@lll0228: Not new, just haven't seen that many good "deals" on this side of woot.

Since you're too lazy to look for yourself, here is the link spoon fed just for you.

Howdy folks. I'm trying to get hold of someone.

EDIT: Ok, I just changed the price. I'm gonna delete some of the posts in this thread to get it more usable.

vote-for16vote-against

@kuoh: That is not the same monitor. And calling me lazy doesn't make you any more right. The link I posted earlier is for the exact model. Please check out the details, and compare apple to apple. Thanks.

You are obviously new here; observe more before you keep posting nonsense to discredit Deals.Woot.

vote-for3vote-against

@thunderthighs: Shouldn't you guys all be hammered right now? or is that just a Wisconsin thing...

vote-for9vote-against

@kuoh: 21.5 does not 22 inches make... it would be like buying an 8 foot door at the hardware store, and getting it home only to find out that its only 7 foot 4 inches.

its also not LED...

vote-for13vote-against

HUZAH!! Price is now correct.

Now hows abouts we clear out all these asinine white triangle posts... or at least reset the vote count.

vote-for-17vote-against

@lll0228: I didn't say it was the same monitor, just a 22" LCD. This one is nothing special, and I'd take a new one I can return locally over a refurb that'll cost me to send back if there are unresolved problems.

KuoH

vote-for-4vote-against

@waltertangofoxtrot: The EW224T is also 21.5", look it up!

@patberry: I've been doing research - the dimensions are indeed correct, but can't find how thick it is (could get you an answer when I'm back in the office).

vote-for11vote-against

@kuoh: Sorry, I don't see how you are an LCD expert, and have no expertise on pricing. Those two monitors don't even use the same LCD panel inside. LG makes its own LCD panel, eMachine buys from a vendor; that alone is a difference enough on the level of integration.

And yes, I am an engineer, and have personally designed and fabricated LCD panels. You?

vote-for5vote-against

@trissecondipity: shoot. i was hoping for an HDMI input. but, that might be asking for a bit much at this price.

oh well...hope everything gets rectified and people start upvoting this deal. it's not a fit for me, but it's still a good deal!

vote-for11vote-against

Thanks for cleaning up the comments Mods!

vote-for6vote-against

Dammit, one minute there's torches and pitchforks, the next we just have a monitor at a good price, and it's the correct price.

Dammit Secondipity! Couldn't you have called this a Frankenstein's Monitor or something that would have at least justified the angry mob? :)

vote-for3vote-against

@waltertangofoxtrot: 22" is from corner to corner, did you really not know that?

vote-for-9vote-against

@lll0228: You sure like putting words in other people's mouths. I didn't claim expert status at anything, just stating the facts I see. This is a refurb LCD with very little specs from the manufacturer to go on at an average street price. You seem to be making it out to be some phenomenal deal. I simply pointed out where I could find other alternatives if I were in the market to spend $99 instead of $14.99. Some of us are looking for better than average deals from Woot.

KuoH

Am I missing something special about the deleted comments?
Comments defending the vendor were deleted, but such gems as:

"I would have bought 8 at that price. Damnit, woot!"
and
"Woot is a liar!"

got a pass? lol..

([ed] Thanks to the mods that took time to clean it up at like 1am Texas time heh)

vote-for18vote-against

For those not letting this die, please read the Terms of Service #4. It was a typo, nothing more. Apologies to @trissecondipity.

vote-for4vote-against

@kuoh: Yep, I looked at the wrong product and just deleted my own post.

vote-for4vote-against

@fleamarketadict: I am aware they measure monitors corner to corner. With the conversion from "square" 4:3 ratio monitors to the "rectangular" 16:9 monitors, I felt they should have update the measurement system, since a 22 inch wide screen monitor doesn't have as much surface area as a 22 inch 4:3 monitor. If anything, they've gotten sloppier with measurements, doing a lot of rounding, and instead of calling it a "31.5 inch TV" they call it a "32 inch class TV"

The other difference between old and new monitor measurements, is old meaurements were for the tube itself, including the part the bezel covers, meaning a 23 inch TV only had about 21 inches of viewable area. LCD/flat panel monitors measure the useable surface area, which is usually has less clipping from the bezel.

vote-for9vote-against

@thunderthighs: Just out of curiosity, what's policy on votes? Probably 99% of the downvotes were cast under false pretenses.

I remember the Jewelry.com deal didn't get a mulligan..

vote-for7vote-against

@trissecondipity: Is this monitor bacon flavored, or maybe at least bacon scented?

vote-for16vote-against

Just in case it matters, we bought a Vizio 32" from Secondipity a few weeks ago (via Woot) and we're hysterically happy with it. Also, they shipped pronto.

Just sayin'.

vote-for11vote-against

@drchops: Nothing I can do about that unfortunately. I added my upvote.

Ok all. I think things have settled down. I'm done cleaning the thread. Y'all behave now, ya hear?

vote-for7vote-against

@kuoh thanks for the info sharing!

@xavoc we can call it the Frankenstein deal...maybe now people will be saying, "IT'S ALIVE!" (nice to know my humor doesn't suffer at all when I'm sleepy..ha :)

Off to bed now that things seemed to have calmed down a bit - will answer any questions (and laugh at witty banter) when I return.

vote-for18vote-against

@kuoh: There are major differences that make the MicroCenter deal not as good as the Deals.Woot deal even though they are both "$99."

The MicroCenter deal is in-store only. MicroCenter isn't located everywhere, so it's not a great deal for someone like me living three hours from the closest MicroCenter.

The MicroCenter monitor is VGA only. The LG monitor is VGA and DVI.

The MicroCenter monitor is standard LCD. The LG monitor is LED LCD. LED monitors are more expensive. A $99 LED LCD monitor is a better deal than a $99 standard LCD monitor.

The MicroCenter monitor is eMachines. The Deals.Woot monitor is LG. LG > eMachines.

Secondipity offers free standard shipping and is tax free if you don't live in a state they have offices in. There is a cost for traveling to MicroCenter, no matter how close you live, and you will pay tax. Thus increasing the MicroCenter deal above $99.

Go ahead and get the monitor at MicroCenter. That'll leave more at Seconditpity fot the reast of us.

vote-for4vote-against

@trissecondipity: you can email prettywootprincess but also there's a tattle link up at the top in the original deal description, along the right side. if you "tattle", those alerts go to the on-shift mods and they can take a look at posts/comments and make adjustments if needed.
i'd do both, contact her as your main point of contact, and tattle to any of the mods
