Awesome tablet. I have the 8GB version, and use it every day.

Also, it's listed as Honeycomb, but there is currently an update to Ice Cream Sandwitch, so you've got that going for you. Which is nice.

Plenty of app space, full-sized SD slot (I have 32GB class 10 memory in it), full sized USB for external storage, full sized HDMI for hooking to monitor/TV. Charges in no time with the external charger, lasts about 8-9 hours under heavy use, or several days with light use.

Plus there is a thriving (get it) modding community with ROM's, advice on rooting etc. that you can find with an easy Google search. I'd reccommend checking that out first, if it interests you.

Downsides are some people complain the screen damages too easily, others seem to have issues with it rebooting. I get unexpected reboots sometimes, but not enough to be a problem, and have had no screen issues up to now. (Knock on gorilla glass.)

I have owned an iPad, transmormer, galaxy and kindle fire. This one is the best. It has the most options of any of these. I can use my full-size SD cards to watch movies and transfer data. Moving on to the galaxy note 10.1 but I will keep this as I still enjoy using it.

Almost pulled the trigger and then ... OSAD. Once bitten twice shy.

I would be very leery of the Thrives. I have one and the external SD slot only works for certain cards and many, many people have had the upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich make their Thrives almost unusable. Toshiba seems not to have a plan for fixing these problems and if your unit is out of warranty they will not reload Honeycomb without charging you.

Tell your friends to do a factory system restore. The "update" does not address every app reinstall properly, especially if they have apps installed from amazon store or other third-party vendors. This kicks the crap out of my t101 with the same specs.

I bought the thrive the last time it was on sale. Sad to say it broke right after I updated to ICS, which was only 2 hours after I received it. It was stuck at the splash screen and couldn't even use the restore to factory setting. There are other users out there who had the exact same problem and Toshiba has not address this issue at all. Needless to say, I returned to tablet.

l love my thrive. The speakers aren't great (but I'm comparing them to the TouchPad speakers, which are brilliant) and my screen did crack, but it is still fully functional, and with a little repairing is almost perfect. This is an easy buy. Root this btw!

My wife really wants a tablet, and I can see this has everything she wants. I was just curious if anybody knows about a notepad function where you can take hand written notes with a stylus? Also if that could be used to write notes on a PowerPoint file open on the tablet. It would really help to know that. I'm kind of hesitant to buy from 1saleaday.com though, they have screwed me in the past.....they sell a lot of broken and cheaply made merch.
