Bought 10 for my all my family members. This is a great tool to have (especially living in the woods--such as myself). Shipping is is kind of high, but hey, this is by far the cheapest i could find it anywhere else.

I usually just bring along a 9V battery and a couple of Brill-o pads. They create a similar effect.

These are fun to play with. There are some cheaper (with shipping) off-brand versions on DX if you're just getting one to try.

I picked up a couple just for fun seems like a decent price even with shipping

5 dollars shipping and 50 cents shipping for each additional one.

3-4 weeks for airmail shipping?!?!

Air mail only, I can find no information about the physical location of the company and no references to it anywhere (that I could find) outside of their own website.

I'll pass.

Guess since Christmas is more than 3-4 weeks away, I can chance it getting here in time. Good gifts for both the hunter and the camper in my family.

This website seems a bit shady, I won't be buying from here. But for those of you interested in fire strikers:

I was attracted because I just paid 9 bucks a few weeks ago for an Swedish Firesteel on Amazon. I did find that it's incredibly overpriced at 9 though, you're just paying for a name brand.

Coughlan's Flint Striker, which I also picked up recently, can be had for as little as $3 and works just as well.

If these are the real thing, they are the bomb. At SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape) school the instructor had a couple of these. Take a couple of cotton balls coated with petrolum jelly and you can start a fire with just about anything.

Added: My google-fu has failed me, SenSe. I could not find anything useful about either the site or the propriator. I have failed. I must now ritually cut off a finger with a sharpened Sansa to redeem myself.

FYI, "bake24" is the submitter and has submitted only deals from the site.

ThinkGeek has this item for $15.99, but you can get it free with geek points, if you have them.

Thedealbaker.com is registered to Joel Baker in Illinois. I'm guessing he has some kind of drop-ship deal with someplace in China or the region.

There's some interesting gossip about the owner here (in the comments): http://youngandsuccessful.com/young-successful-profile-david-orr/

And if you follow up on that last link, you will come to fruper.com, which has the Swedish fire steel for $6.95.

prefer elvish firesteel for my song-blades, personally

That looks a lot like a fire starter used by the Boy Scouts of America. In a dark campsite makes a good substitute for an electric strobe light, should one need to escape from nature and get their techno rave on.

So, the site is called thedealBAKER.com, owned by one Joel BAKER, and was submitted by wooter BAKE24? Think I'll pass, thanks. I'm all for a dude trying to make a buck, but this borders on insulting.

This is an amazing deal. Firesteel usually runs over $15, and the best deal I've ever seen before is about $7 from Fruper.com. I risked the concerns about the site and bought 10 via PayPal. In a zombie apocalypse (necropocalypse?) you need a quick fire-starter.

So, what you're saying is that it would have been better if he'd disguised his name more so you wouldn't know he was promoting his own site? Come on. Lots and lots of small etailers are posting their own items, though perhaps using more subterfuge, which is less honest.

I've gotten stuff from the deal baker before. everything is really cheap knockoffs. just so people know. Not worth it at all IMO
