This is really a nice weapon. I already have a working claymore, and a pike (with only a little bit of dried blood still on it). Maybe I'll bring them both.

It's expensive being a nerd these days :(

I feel like this isn't that good of a deal. I base that on nothing because I haven't bought a sword before since I can't think of any practical uses for one. The only ones I can think of a gun would be a better alternative an you can get one of those for less money.

vote-for2vote-against

LOL Befriend your enemies as they will be your best friend. xD

..and.. I agree with @valianteffort.

@trendkill7577: A gun isn't going to do you much good if there's a power outage.

Er, wait.

Holy cr@p, guys, speaking of swords, you have to see this:

scroll down to episode 1.

The gold itself probably added like 50-100 dollars... what a shame... =/

vote-for1vote-against

as far as swords go, this is about as good as it gets
this is a quality weapon that could actually be used in battle

that being said, i would take my 430 bucks and buy a nice shotgun or a mid-tier pistol

@catberthtegreat: your warpaint deal would be perfect to go with this. It SAYS it went popular hours ago but doesn't appear on any of the popular pages. At the very least, shouldn't it be collapsed under this deals as "other deals from catbertthegreat"?

@osupatrick: yes, there ARE such things as 25 pound sledge hammers. While not found in your local Home Depot, these monsters do exist. Google it if you doubt me.

vote-for1vote-against

@marcoselmalo: WTF! thats disturbingly hilarious

vote-for3vote-against

I would put my American claymore up against your Scottish claymore anyday.

Of course, mine is an anti-personnel mine with a killing radius of 50m in a 60-degree arc, while yours is an unwieldy hunk of steel.

vote-for1vote-against

Actually this sword is a wall hanger, if that is all you want or if you want one that you can use check http://kultofathena.com/s_results.asp?search=claymore&submit=Search
sorry.

vote-for1vote-against

I have a 12 gauge shot gun... i can take any of your swords/mace's/pike's...

vote-for1vote-against

I'll second ericatkinson's remark, this is a display piece -- a very pretty one no doubt, but you should not sally forth into your backyard wearing blue paint while swinging this about. A long hunk of stainless steel hitting pretty much anything with resistance is an accident waiting to happen (especially if said hunk is edged and pointy). Here's a nice example of what can happen (though the linked item is just junk all around):

@blackscribe: I can't believe you freaks are running around your backyards swinging these stupid things around...fake sword fights with the swing set errr I mean dragon.

vote-for3vote-against

@blackscribe: Oh, I see. You're another second amendment hater who thinks swords kill people, and will say a sword is "decorative" to get people not to buy it. Claymores = freedom. FREEEEEEEEEEEEDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM.

vote-for1vote-against

@blackscribe: Agreed; stainless steel makes for a pretty display weapon and not a functional weapon.

vote-for4vote-against

@osupatrick: Yeah yeah, I should bonk myself on the head for that one. It's a ten pound sledge hammer. ::face::palm::

It was the heat of the moment, and there were other things making me excitable and careless, having absolutely NOTHING to do with this deal.

vote-for6vote-against

@thewootenator: Well, as I'd said, it was real blood, but not human. I went playing at spear fishing, and it was the nearest thing I had. The moment I got the danged fish, I was reminded that I dislike cleaning fish more than anything I can think of. Fortunately, someone else wanted it. The only reason I suggested that there was still blood on it is that I know how very resistant those pesky molecules are.

I might add that, although I think you're wayyy off base here, there's no reason you have to believe other than you do, since I was foolish enough to engage you when you posted your first snarky bits. Dungeons and Dragons, wow. You seem trapped in the eighties. Renaissance Festivals and D&D; come on up out of your mom's basement. It's a whole different world out there.

vote-for1vote-against

Stainless steel isn't really a good sword metal, as it's too soft and doesn't hold an edge well. This is really a display sword, not a battle-ready weapon.

vote-for1vote-against

People, if you buy this to hang on a wall, great. If you want to cut anything with it, don't. Stainless steel, while requiring little maintenance, is totally unsuited for any blade over about 10 inches because it is inherently softer than high carbon steel. It will bend or break if you hit anything hard with it.

Overall this is not a good deal because you can get better looking swords for a whole lot less money at a flea market that will accomplish the same goal of having something cool to hang on the wall.

vote-for5vote-against

Kind of weird that this deal went Popular first, and yet it doesn't show up anywhere on the Popular page.

Says the hilt is made of cast metal. Cast metal isn't very strong, and if the guard is also cast metal, you better have hands/wrists made of adamantium.

@alejo699:
ATS-34, 154CM, D2, M390, and an angry mob of others would like a word with you.

vote-for1vote-against

A claymore? Doesn't look like any claymore I've ever messed with. Where does it say 'This side toward the enemy'?

vote-for1vote-against

"""Sword by Marto of Toledo Spain is 57 inches in length , has a double edged blade made of the finest tempered stainless steel ,"""

Sadly, Marto items do not retain their value, for a number of reasons.
First, they aren't good sword makers - plain and simple.
Second, they are not hand made weapons.
Third, they produce stainless steel blades which are next to useless for anything other than wall hanging.
Quality, high carbon steel can shatter stainless making the SS blade more of a danger to the wielder and those around him, than his adversary.

vote-for1vote-against

Just a note about stainless steel:
For the most part, the problem with stainless steel is not that it is too soft, but that it is too brittle. Cheap stainless is hard to keep an edge because of the other elements used forging the metal. Quality stainless is very good at keeping an edge. If it's of any length, you just don't want to bang it against another metal object as it might shatter.

@n8cook: What happens when you run out of shells in the coming apocalypse? (Remember to save the last one for yourself!)

vote-for1vote-against

@marcoselmalo: I think you are probably better off with a "pointy stick" than this thing. You can't kill trolls or zombies with it.

vote-for0vote-against

I'm going to buy this sword and then I will be the only Highlander.

vote-for1vote-against

@thewootenator: I always get the stick with the point going in the wrong direction. If only someone would invent a pointy stick with points on BOTH ends!
