FWIW - I've only ever bought 1 thing from them: a $10 flashdrive. I had no problems with it; it works fine and arrived as expected.

I didnt realize buy was that bad as for fantom I have a couple of there drives that are fine but they get pretty awful review too.

I have many Fantom Megadisks (the eSATA/USB 2 RAID version) as my tertiary backup (the third copy). I have never had any problem with them.

Also, I don't understand why Buy.com is getting the rip here. I have used them for many years and they have not given me any trouble at all. Many good deals to be had, too.

I'll 5th the buy.com hate. 3 months shipping is a little out of control. I would buy from them again though, just not anything time sensitive.

Not sure why so many people have had bad luck with buy.com, I've bought plenty of things from them and these guys are perfectly legit. That being said, Fantom drives I have heard bad reviews about.

You can find the same enclosure, but 1TB, at newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822204103 for $85 + $9 shipping. Much better seller than Buy.com.

@balls2thewall: I'm with you, seems to me they operate no different than Amazon. They may not be the direct seller of the product, so you need to pay attention to who you are actually buying from. In, fact I've received stuff from Amazon through buy.com.

I guess the people above didn't realize this.
