see now this a great deal, but it ticks me off, I would have loved to have had that deal instead of the two i bought at $198 each at Sams, only difference is I would have saved $60 freaking dollars and gotten the same thing... arghhhhh I NEED MUCH BETTER TIMING lol

I got a refurb Kindle Fire back in December and it's worked perfectly. This is a good deal.

id never by a refab from anyone again

If I didn't already have another tablet, I probably would have jumped on this. $199 was already tempting, but $169 is pretty much an instabuy.

Where are they on a aftermarket firmware for these guys, like Cyanogen or some type of ICS rom?

@haggismacjedi -

I don't know why you wouldn't. I love buying refurb... the company has given it a 2nd lookover, still under warranty, AND cheaper. Your loss meng... more for me.

No finer place for info than XDA.

Okay, now, I just bought one on the 14th for $10 more...does Amazon have a 30 day price guarantee or something like that?

vote-for4vote-against

@kelliedn: Well, that was easy, just got a $10 credit for it! Glad I saw this

Oh, and so far, I love my Kindle Fire. I had an HP Touchpad...hated it... Kindle Fire has everything I need.

vote-for7vote-against

Yeah, I have a Kindle Keyboard, but in terms of dealing with the company's customer support they're awesome. Any issue that is remotely reasonable they handle and then some. I've gotten back double the issue amount on small errors just as a little extra sorry.

Of course it helps to be genuinely nice and understanding with the poor person whose job it is to put up with dissatisfied people all day.

In for one...

We have Prime, so this will be great for the kids for streaming videos (Dora, I'm looking at YOU)

Posted by a happy iPad 2 owner who wants something less than $600 to hand his 3 year old daughter to watch Dora on...

@jdelgatto: Amazon (and Apple) refurbs are usually just opened \ returned items. They legally can't sell them as New, and neither use Open-box categories.

Both companies (and many others) also warranty them as new.

vote-for2vote-against

@jgmcgowan: Yep, that's why I went with the refurb. It has the exact same warranty as new. Just cheaper.

vote-for4vote-against

I have a Kindle Fire and I really like it but if I were in the market for one I would grab one at this price.

vote-for3vote-against

Bought one of these for my wife and she loves it as an "internet machine". I would assume that a lot of these refurbs were probably returned based on the size of the screen and not because of a malfunction. 7 inches is pretty small to work off of - but she loves it. If you do get one this guy on ebay sells nice cases for cheap.... the quality of these was much better than the selection at Target.

Got a refurbed one for $179.99 for the missus for Valentine Day. Looked like it had never been used. Couldn't recharge it. Googled and found it was an issue with them. The micro usb opening didn't line up with the micro usb plug. They sent me a second unit and waited for me to return the bad first unit. Second unit works flawlessly. Been viewing Netflix and Amazon Prime streaming movies. Great stuff. The don't add titles soon enough so I've got to a schedule: watch Netflix movies for about two weeks, then focus on Prime for two weeks, than go back to Netflix. Two weeks is about the time they need to add new stuff. This latest offer is $10 cheaper, or $169.99. Found out Amazon won't price match anything except televisions within a 14 day period of purchase; and they won't drop the price on themselves if they sell the same product cheaper at anytime. They reason you got the best price when you got it.

vote-for1vote-against

@kelliedn: how did you get your $10 credit. Bought one for missus for Valentine for $179.99. Can you get a $10 credit for it? Amazon website said they weren't doing anything like what you got.

We got the Fire for our daughter for this past Christmas and she loves it. It was a nice compromise since she wanted a phone.

Be sure to check on Amazon every day and check out their free paid App of the day. We have gotten some very nice apps for free - and this works for all of your droid devices as well.

Also be sure to visit getjar.com - they offer a whole bunch of free apps. Just be careful there if you're with the kids since there's plenty of adult material there as well.

Now, I can't decide if I should get one of these for me... Great price point.

vote-for1vote-against

@ronnyboy: Use a telephone and call Amazon. They will do anything they can to make you happy.

@prcapone: dude I think you mentioned the wrong guy there

i purchased one at wmart 2 weeks ago. It was $199, but you got a $50 wmart gift certificate with it. great device, lots of apps available for android devices on the internet.

vote-for0vote-against

@ronnyboy: I used the Chat Box on the Contact form and asked someone for the credit and they gave it to me. They did issue the refund and it's currently processing...just ask...you may be surprised.

vote-for1vote-against

Like TMCRONIN I got one at Wal-mart with a $50card. new. Does Hulu AND Netflix, wife loves it. Very responsive.

REMEMBER, it's a KINDLE running 'android', NOT an Android Tablet. Unless you hack it you can't customize much. But it's great for light internet, reading email, games, video, movies, oh- and reading books. :-)

vote-for1vote-against

Oh No, Y'all suck! I mean thank you! I just decided not to get one last week, but now I think this "forces" me to. I happen to have some gift cards for amazon lying around so I will have to prime, too. Great deal.

vote-for1vote-against

Since it is refurb is the 2 year extended warranty worth it or since it is so cheap and will come down in price not worth it. I haven't had enough coffee to think yet!

vote-for1vote-against

@sanchezaps: Not sure...I'm not even sure a refurb is eligible for that warranty. I know with my refurb Ipod Touch that Square Trade wouldn't cover it. I would read the fine print and make sure...

vote-for2vote-against

Looks like it is eligible. It's listed on the page when I try to add it...hmmm, might not be a bad idea with two little boys also playing with it.

vote-for2vote-against

@jdelgatto: Then you're spending more for less. Why wouldn't you want a device that has been through the factory twice? The devices face greater scrutiny whilst being repaired. Every refurb I purchased has lasted at least as long as originals.

I bought one this morning and got this message for the Kindle Fire;

"You must be connected to Wi-Fi to stream music, videos, or other content stored on the Amazon Cloud. You will also need to be connected to browse websites using Amazon Silk web browser and use certain apps."

On my iphone, I can browse websites while out shopping. Is this different?

I guess it doesn't do email?

vote-for1vote-against

@easygoingal: Your phone has a connection through your wireless provider...so yes, it's different. This only has a wi-fi connection capability. It does not have 3G or 4G wireless connection.

My iPhone has 3G and it has wi-fi. When I use the 3G I use data KB's up. When I use the wi-fi I do not.

vote-for1vote-against

@easygoingal: And yes, you can get email on it.

vote-for1vote-against

Damn, that was one crazy impulse buy.
