Are the pre-owned laptops reconditioned or anything? Or is it just straight from the old owner to you?

vote-for3vote-against

Straight from the website: "Pre-owned: Products that have been purchased, opened, and operated. Then, for a multitude of reasons, from buyer’s remorse to functionality, the product is returned to the store. When a pre-owned product is processed by CowBoom, it is tested for power and basic functionality."

My interpretation is "anything returned to Best Buy for any reason".

@alligosh: Yeah...that's pretty sketchy. I'm all for cheap refurbished stuff, but I've worked retail before - and I know the kinda crap people bring back lol.. I've been on the returning end too, which is just as scary

Plus, just how intentionally vague they are with "pre-owned" stuff is a little disturbing...with refurb/recert stuff they have a full on grading system, a "functional condition" chart and a complete rundown of everything they do. "Pre-owned" - like you said - can mean pretty much anything lol

(Deals not dead, read the description)

They offer warranties. No idea how good.

LOL at the "Was: $849, Now: $249."

Why not just put "Was: $98,745,243,598.48*, Now: $249?"

*The astronomical figure shown is what some governemt agency or black market would have most certainly paid back in 1974 to have such technology before anyone else.

Show us savings, fine...but don't insult us all with ludicrous pricing.

I bought a "refurb" off of cowboom a few months ago. All in all, it's an OK laptop, but the battery had about 10 mins of charge at full charge (needed replacement), and there's some other cosmetic stuff that I'm not too thrilled about, but I got a pretty OK deal (~200 for a D620 latitude with 1gb / dvdrw / c2duo) so I didn't send it back.

But buyer beware - even refurb doesn't mean anything's been worked on. I would imagine they image them and make sure they boot, but not much further than that.

I have bought many desktop and laptops from dealtree.com and all in all you cant beat the value if you know how to work on computers alot of the $1000 desktops I bought for less then $300 only needed power supplies or video cards. PS if you refresh the page it will chage laptops you have to be quick because if that laptop is put in someones cart it will say it is unavailible. Im in for 9 laptops so far thank you best buy!

be very careful with Cowboom......

vote-for1vote-against

The deal can't be dead since they constantly add new stock.

Cowboom is great for us re-purposes. Buy cheap, fix w/e issue there might be, re-sell at double the purchase price on ebay. I can't tell you how many DSI hand helds I've purchased and resold before xmas.
