Note: ONLY the black version is $70.26 with free prime shipping.

The brushed silver is $89.95 (no prime) and the stainless is $103.99 (no prime).

Note that this is very good grinder, and, if the black works for you, the $70.26 is an excellent price (mine cost ~$85 over a year ago).

(BTW- I've tattled to get the picture changed to the black one.)

How loud is this unit?
Nothing worse than having to listen to ear splitting grinding first thing in the morning. also, can you run it for extended periods without getting hot?

@dernst_ca1:

It's not quiet, but then it is a burr grinder. I have not measured the sound level it produces, though it is definitely quieter that the Krups blade grinder (aka spice grinder) that I used to use. Also, it has a timer (you turn the knob to the number and let go...) so you can walk (or run) away and do not need to stand near it while it grinds.

I've ground an entire bin full of beans (meaning the bin on the top of the grinder) without waiting for the grinder to cool down (other than the time it takes to empty the hopper after about 12 to 14 "cups" on the timer); it takes three or four passes to do the full bin. The burr is reduction geared and so does not run at the motor's actual speed... the slower rate lessens the heat produced (and probably the noise as well). Note however that when I am grinding large batches of beans like this, I have normally just filled the bin with beans that just came out of the freezer.

@dernst_ca1:

Correction: the timer only goes to "10" (would be really cool if it went to 11, but alas, it does not).

When I'm doing the big batches, I normally twist the timer dial to about 9.

Also, as mentioned in one or two of the Amazon reviews, there is one issue with the grinder that I have found to be a valid though extremely minor complaint: the chute from the burrs to the hopper is not vertical and thus a small amount of ground coffee will remain in the chute after the grinder has stopped (probably less than a teaspoon). To reduce this to almost nothing, I always pick up the grinder after it has finished and lightly slap the front of it a couple of times.

Looks like the price is now $87.88 for the black at Amazon - Prime free shipping. What happened to $70.00?

@dernst_ca1:

I believe they call it 8 oz, though it holds a bit more than that.

Unfortunately, Amazon's sale price has ended (it is back to the normal $85ish price),
