The Princess Bride (2 Discs) (Includes Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) (Widescreen) (Dual-layered DVD) for $14.99
Based on William Goldman's novel of the same name, The Princess Bride is staged as a book read by grandfather (Peter Falk) to his ill grandson (Fred Savage). Falk's character assures a romance-weary Savage that the book has much more to deliver than a simpering love story, including but not limited to fencing, fighting, torture, death, true love, giants, and pirates. Indeed, The Princess Bride offers a tongue-in-cheek fairy tale depicting stable boy-turned-pirate Westley's journey to rescue Buttercup (Robin Wright), his true love, away from the evil prince (Chris Sarandon), whom she had agreed to marry five years after learning of what she had believed to be news of Westley's death. With help from Prince Humperdinck's disgruntled former employee Miracle Max (Billy Crystal), swordsman Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin), and a very large man named Fezzik (Andre the Giant), the star-crossed lovers are reunited. Oh, and shipping is $2.99, or you can pick it up at the store!
@maisyday: great find
One of the best movies ever! I have two regular DVD copies but tempted. Anyone know if the Blu-Ray is an improvement over the regular DVD? From what I understand some are not really transferred with improved video.
ah the impwessive clerwgyman.......my favorite scene.......
well and "Have fun storming the Castle!"
One of my all-time favorite movies. Not sure how much of an improvement there is in the Blu-Ray version, but 2 versions for $14.99 is...
INCONCEIVABLE!
@peaty: The video quality is the same on both. I own the DVD and bought the Blu-Ray version last year hoping for the same, but no luck.
...I do not think it means what you think it means....
@muniz: Uh, if you think the video quality for this movie is the same on the Blu-ray and the DVD, you either don't have an HDTV, you have something hooked up wrong, or you need to go to the optometrist. The Blu-ray looks great!
@drgabber: He knows and he answered my question. We all know Blu-Ray movies can be better but many times the older movies are just put on Blu-Ray disks and not really Blu Ray quality. Best analogy I can use is to take a VHS and just copy it on to a DVD. The movie is only as good as the source. Because of this you can buy a BR disk and it looks pretty much the same as the regular disk. That is why I asked.
Nice find! One of my all time faves. Fitting that this is my first ever blu-ray purchase. :)
@peaty: He may have answered your question, but the answer was wrong. The source for this Blu-ray is a really nice print from film. Film is much higher resolution than HD. Here are some direct comparisons between the DVD, an HD broadcast, and the Blu-ray - http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1129177
Just bought it for $16.99 on Amazon with free Prime shipping.
Cool then that is what I wanted to know if it was an upgrade or not. I'll have to look into the Amazon copy, I'm a prime member.
Looks like it's actually down to $12.99 now.
Would have much preferred they kept the 20th Aniv. DVD cover
