The brand new Galaxy Tab 7" 2.0 runs Android 4.0 and is available on the Zon for $249. A better deal IMO.
Better deal: Refurbished iPad 2 for $349 + free shipping. You're welcome!
@bmw66x: Ironically, Galaxy Tab 7" 2.0 is a "budget" model of this.
So, you're either gonna get a cut-rate version of Galaxy Tab (2.0) with Ice Cream Sandwich, or a full-bore version of it (Plus) with an outdated version of Android.
Ain't that nice?
Oh, by the way, the 2.0 is Wifi only. No 3G for you.
With the demise of unlimited data plans, who can afford 3G/4G support?
@unif2: u cant randomly proclaim a better deal with no link to the deal.. or if we are making up deals then ipad 3 fo 29.99 and free shipping.
@sgtgreeneusmc: 25-30 bucks for a couple gigs a month-so it works out cheaper to have a data plan use skype or google talk-and if you must a limited phone plan-but why? That said-if your going to go that way-you can just as easily get a data plan paired to a mobile hot spot and use it on any device you choose-that way you can have Verizon 4G for the same price.BTW the other sweet part about stand alone data plans-if theres overage-the cost is not punative-the extra gigs are just 10bucks each-same rate as the first 2...unlike phone overage charges
@alfredenigma: and yes there are $250 7 inch tabs all over the place(the Kindle and Nook have caused a stir in the industry because of their affordability-everyone is following suit-the latest asus transformer prime-sammy galaxy-etc all sub250...but by x-mas (or sooner) they will have "raced to the bottom"-and you'll be able to pick up a fast, smart, expandable 7" tab for 2 hundy-or less
best deal if you must have designated phone service-get some friends or family together-get a verizon faily plan on the phones-after the first 2-you can add lines for 10 /month-at the lower minute shared plan-verizon wireless or land are free-plus 10 f+f off the verizonnetwork are free to call-split the total amoungst everyone-if you get 5 people in-gets pretty cheap to carry a "dumb"phone-I saved my biz a fortune doing this. Then the 4G package(either contract or pay as you go) at the price I mentioned in an earlier post paired to a mi-fi -and you can use a tab to do anything you want..when you find yourself outside of the ubiquitous free wi-fi hotspots.I'm sure other carriers have similar-maybe better prices-I only know what I did-where I am verozon is the only way to have coverage away from the city..in the hills and valleys sprint starts to suck.but if you can use other carriers check their prices for a similar scheme.and whatever you do- DONT tell them its for a business
and for mobile gizmos-if you're not already[cant imagine you're not]keep your eyes on the Motorola/Google Atrix..its gonna be a game changer....I just knew there had to be a reason Google liked Motorola that much ;) Just gotta get it outta ATTs hands-dont worry everyone will have a similar device soon enuff...Hell,the open source boys couple up with Linux had one available in europe nearly 5 years ago
My wife loves her 7.0 Plus that I got her for Xmas (no 3G). A newer OS would be nice, since I suspect it would solve some of the (usually) minor glitches she's seen. Nothing earth-shattering, just predictable Android how-many-apps-services-can-you-run-at-once things.
While nice hardware, still a bit too steep for me to go for tablet #2. And someone in the house needs to get things done and not just add levels to their Tiny Tower...
I'll have to find the link again but Samsung will be upgrading the Galaxy tab 7.0 plus to Ice Cream Sandwich.
@unif2: almost everytime an Android tablet appears on Woot, someone chimes in with the iPad argument...at least have a position with an "apples to apples" tablet. This Woot is for an Android tablet that has WiFi and 3G, yet your "better" deal is for an iPad 2 that is WiFi only (we all know that the iPad 2 WiFi+3G version, new OR refurb, is nowhere in the ballpark of $399). If you want to chime in, please do so with a "deal" on a similarly equipped device....also (not to split hairs) you also dare to compare a refurb versus the advertised new product. Though I swear by Apple's refurb products too, some people just don't touch refurbs...ever. So please be a sensible Wooter and make levelheaded recommendations for others that surf around here. /end of rant/
The galaxy tab 7.0 Plus will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich according to their website.

Is this Compatible With Verizon In the US?
You can get the Samsung Galaxy S 10.1 4G/LTE from US Cellular for $399 total start-up cost. You do have to get their data plan though. And again that is 4G/LTE, not just 3G. But if you don't want to spend money on a data plan then there is really no point in getting the 3G capable device. Might as well wait around for a WiFi only 10.1" to be back on woot. They've had it $319.99 a few times before: http://www.woot.com/forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=4733737&PageIndex=1&ReplyCount=1 &

That's a better deal if you don't plan on getting a data plan. If you do plan on getting a data plan might as well get one with 4G/LTE support from a carrier for the same price. I know Verizon has a similar deal on the Galaxy too.
Can I use the SIM card from my AT&T Galaxy Note in this? I got grandfathered in with an unlimited plan so being able to use my data plan with a bigger screen could have its advantages. The Note is pretty big already, but a few extra inches would be nice for Netflix and HBO Go. And the Note can't use HULU.
@subrven1: Nope, it's GSM, so AT&T or T-Mobile in the US, or any other phone provider on earth. And it doesn't look like it supports t-mo's 3g band (1700) either, so it looks like 3g on AT&T only. Having browsed at Edge speeds, aka the "speed of dark", hope for wifi.
@unif2: Even better deal (B&M though) than your ipad 2 deal - $359.99 for 16gb ipad 2 from Microcenter.
@sgtgreeneusmc: Use an MVNO and you will get unlimited voice, data and text for about half the price the big boys charge. I've been using SimpleMobile for $40 monthly and have no complaints.
I am new to looking into tablets. I am traveling overseas this summer, and it is so darn expensive to have my regular cell phone made into a worldwide phone for two weeks. Is this tablet a good option, or should I just bring my regular laptop and rent a worldwide phone?
Just stating a pricing fact against another post and down votes all around. Android fans are just as bad as Apple fans.
PS. Just to let you in on a secret, I only own an Ipod video.
@hamstar2002: The Galaxy Tab is a great phone when coupled with a bluetooth headset. Go for it!
Can you get a temporary phone plan on this if you are traveling overseas for only two weeks? (Sorry, I don't know how the phone feature works.)
@hamstar2002
Yes, if the country you're traveling to has GSM, you can rent a sim card to use while there. Using a different sim card will give you a different phone number on your device.
@sportyrider: In regards to your SimpleMobile $40 unlimited voice/text/data plan, any issues if the data usage is +/- 30GB monthly?
This figure is my current documented data usage tethering my cellphone as a modem.
I'm in the process of consolidating (if it is financially beneficial) my cellphone & netbook usage into just using this Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus with a MVNO (such as the $40 SimpleMobile plan you mentioned)for my computing needs on the go.
Thanks.
@sportyrider: I was checking out simplemobiles site.I see their unlimited TT+D plans(both 3G+4G) and they seem like great deals indeed-but- their "wireless broadband plans..no so good.Have you had any luck making the unlimited TT+D plans work with Tabs,Laps or PCs?- perhaps via tethering?-unlimited plan SIM in a wireless modem-or straight to a tab? As you probably noticed from previous posts,I'm as cheap as they come, esp when it involves forking over the equivalent of a car payment every month for all these redundant services(home broadband,TV,Phone then mobile TT+D)I cant be the only one thinking this way-and I'm not looking to "steal"anything(so easy but too risky in my position)..just consolidate and eliminate-I've managed to get rid of a few of those-but-I'm still lookin for additional "workarounds".Please-let me/us know about the viability of SiMo's services for devices other than/in addition to cell phones. Thanx alot -Geo
I'd also love to hear feedback from anyone who has/had Simple Mobile or any other MVNO in the SW Pa area(20-30 miles South of Pittsburgh)
@receptor: I've never had an issue with using Simple with my cell phone or Galaxy tab. I've never tethered to my pc so I can't comment on data usage issues as I never came near to 30GB monthly. I've read that they throttle you after 2GB but I've never experienced it.
@geod998: The above post may have answered your question. Simple works flawlessly with Phones and Tablets but I have never tethered. In Philly and suburbs I get a signal as good as I had with ATT.
You're not cheap. Just smart with your money.
