Worst workstation keyboard I ever bought, it only has the fgabcde keys, which made it rather hard to type work emails.

vote-for10vote-against

Great price... wish the keys were weighted.

vote-for2vote-against

I see keyboard and now, thanks to Target, I think denim

vote-for2vote-against

@captainsuperdawg: Every time I saw that ad, I had the same question. Tunics?

vote-for6vote-against

So when it says piano style keys, is that just saying they're the same size and color, or are we talking weighted? Wormburnr has already mourned that they're not, but I didn't see anything that said one way or the other.

So this is Owl City's secret...

vote-for6vote-against

Is the only difference between the 200 and 210 being the screen backlight color?

vote-for7vote-against

@deraj828: Weighted keys would always be listed as a feature. And the whole thing weighs less than 16 pounds - not nearly enough for true weighted keys.

Here's a link to the comments on this from the last woot-off:

That might answer some questions. Seems a lot of people were happy to have paid twice this much for it.

Got one during the last woot off and it supplements my piano lessons beautifully.

@rprebel: Guess it's making a comeback from biblical days? Idk, I never keep up with fashion.

vote-for4vote-against

my fiance's been wanting a piano for ages, she's never had one so i believe this will be a perfect start for her, thanks!

@deraj828: I researched this product when it appeared on Woot a few weeks ago. Here is a more complete list of product specifications. In the specs it shows that there aren't weighted keys. There are also customer reviews that are helpful as well.

I bought this last time and absolutely love it. Well... I bought it for my 5 year old, but I ended up putting it in my office. Other than not being weighted (which for this price is not gonna happen), it's a silly great deal.

Half tempted to buy another... hmmm.

vote-for6vote-against

Been wanting to learn for ages...time to take the plunge! Is it wrong that I want to buy the 200 because I like the color scheme better...but I want the 210 because it is ten more?

vote-for4vote-against

Does anyone know if it has a damper pedal jack?

vote-for6vote-against

I have one from somewhere else a few years ago. I play jazz gigs on the side. Got this one for rehearsals so I don't have to carry my heavy ones + amp.

The light weight of the keys is alright for experienced fingers to adjust the attack. With its piano-shaped keys (as opposed to synth-like keys), I do find it helpful for a traditional pianist to adjust. (The weight center of the keys are at least similar).

The built-in speakers are handy for a small quiet room but not good enough in the band situation. You'll need an external amp for that. It only has headphone out, not line out, so the sound won't be superb.

The sample sound isn't amazing (e.g. the piano sound tends to be buried in the band mix so some EQ is needed).

There is no pedal included so you'll need to get one yourself. I think it cost me $15-$30 each. @tabbyfoo: No. It doesn't have a damper pedal. The jack is for sustain pedal.

It serves my purpose well. Since it's cheap so I didn't even buy a case for it.

Got one from the last sale here. Some things I didn't realize when I purchased it:

Has USB jack that uses standard USB<-->midi protocol - this means that you can plug it into your iPad with the camera connection kit and use all those new nifty midi apps people are coming out with - piano tutors, sequencers, recorders, etc. Not to mention just plugging it into your computer as a normal midi device. But the iPad apps were a surprise to me - it's very cool.

Can run off batteries.

The whole thing is pretty light, but bulky. There aren't any built in grips of any sort.

There are a TON of features. It has many pieces of music built in, and a few teaching modes for dozens of pieces of common music.

It has split keyboard - so you can assign the right hand to one use (say piano), and the left to another use (for instance chords or drums).

Doesn't come with pedal, but one can be had from amazon for under $30. Stands and benches are also cheap.

vote-for7vote-against

How many people saw this and thought "maybe I'll learn to play piano?"

vote-for7vote-against

@tabbyfoo: From the manual linked in product description, there is a single pedal jack (no pedal included).
According to PDF page E-17 (of the 210 manual anyway)
This single pedal defaults to "Sustain", but is configurable to also control Sostenuto, Soft or start/stop Rhythm.
I suspect that "Soft" is your requested "damper pedal", though you must choose a single function, as there can be only one (pedal function).

Bought one last time and while the keys are not weighted, they are touch sensitive. So they do sound lighter or louder if you press the keys softer or harder. Mine was missing the song book. Woot customer service said that it was not to be included, but the instruction manual states that it was suppose to come with one. The Woot product description did not say anything about it. Did anyone who bought one last time get a song book with theirs? Please note that it did come with an AC adapter and a music stand. Just wondering if anyone got a music/song book as well. Thanks for any input/advice.

This is a step-down from the model I have, which I bought for like 350 or so bucks a couple years ago. I was genuinely impressed by the tone bank of this thing. Especially the organ tones. The drum loops are pretty helpful(and varied) and prove to be fun for playing by yourself. Really pleased with Casio.

vote-for2vote-against

The manual for the WK-210 describes "voice pads." There's no mention of voice pads in the manual for the WK-200. That seems to be an additional difference, besides display color.

vote-for3vote-against

I'm fascinated with the sequencer built in, but since I cut my sequencing teeth on and Ensoniq EPS, I doubt I'd be happy. But it's an impressive addition to a keyboard that's under a hundred bucks, AND some basic sampling function to boot.

vote-for4vote-against

@deraj828: price not consistant with weighted keys.

vote-for8vote-against

@chefraz: ^ post not consistent with spell check.

vote-for6vote-against

@krazyq: look on craigslist, find an old, beautiful piano for <$100 (possibly free), make sure all the keys in the middle make some sort of noise, then exert the labor required to get the 500lb monster into your fiancee's space.

Buy a keyboard for your kids. Buy a piano for your love.

I did, and it changed my life.

vote-for4vote-against

Bought this for myself and my kids, great deal, nice keyboard for the money.

vote-for4vote-against

Got the WK200 model the last time that the offered it. I have a 5 & 7 Yrs old that use it for lessons. We couldn't be happier with it. No signs of it being refurbished. We did not have a keyboard before so I have nothing to compare too but I can tell you with or without lessons your kids will love it.

vote-for9vote-against

I have a fairly nice Casio digital piano, but my son has a habit of eating snacks (like potato chips and cookies) over it. After having to wipe chocolate and boxed juice off the keys I decided it was too nice a piano for him to be playing around with at his age.

I'm buying one of these instead so that he can be more like his his 5 year old self (actually he was 4 years old when I exiled him from the other piano, but I still get heebie jeebies remembering vacuuming up corn chips from between the keys so it will be a while before he gets to use that one again).

vote-for1vote-against

If I buy this can I play in Jeffster?

vote-for1vote-against

@txag98: Sorry, you'll need a keytar for that.

vote-for1vote-against

Can any experienced player tell me if non-weighted keys are suitable to learn to play? I want to teach myself to play and am not sure if I should spend the extra money on weighted keys.

vote-for1vote-against

Is it really that difficult to include the extra 12 keys?

vote-for6vote-against

@keithjmc: If you are just beginning, you do not need the weighted keys. The weight of keys refers to the amount of pressure needed to push them down and create sound. Learning on a pressure-less keyboard may make the eventual transition into weighted keys a little difficult; additionally, weighted keys let you play more expressively once you get it down. But if you are just starting out, you will really be developing your fingering and chord structure more than anything. Plus, not to be a pessimist, but if you end up deciding piano is not for you, you will have wasted a lot less money.

vote-for-5vote-against

Uh-oh, no MIDI connections?

Then it's really just a toy.

vote-for5vote-against

@anyboatyourow: I see MIDI connections described at least twice.

vote-for2vote-against

@apbarry: to be fair, i think @anyboatyourow is referring to a dedicated MIDI-OUT port, which is not a feature for these keyboards.

as stated, though, the description does mention exchanging MIDI data with a computer via the USB port.

vote-for2vote-against

@anyboatyourow: My kids have had one for years, MIDI via USB to iMac, velocity sensitive sample replay from Garage Band. It took all of 11 seconds to hook up, but no dedicated MIDI connection to older devices. For $79 I might just get a second one, it's a great keyboard and I hooked it into a Marshall JC900 via DimeBag Distortion and scared the pets.

vote-for0vote-against

@sahmiam: you can solder some keytar strap locks to it.
Does woot have any skinny ties with piano keys on them that I can wear with my collarless chams shirt?

vote-for2vote-against

Just got one of these in my BoC from the last woot-off... damaged pretty significantly (case broken) but plays fine. I'm suitably impressed with it.

Oh, and thanks woot!

vote-for1vote-against

Did anyone figure out what the differences between two models are?

vote-for2vote-against

@chezteladog:
One has an orange display. The other is blue. I don't think there's much beyond that.

vote-for0vote-against

@chezteladog
I went over the manuals and one @grosof stated this as well the only difference is the wk-210 has the voice pad feature, which allows you to play sampled sounds.

Also in the process of selecting the wk-210 model woot give me this statement

"Your first Casio 76-Key Keyboard, 570 Tones, 180 Rhythms, 152 Songs, USB, Aux-in, Step Up Lessons selection is invalid (unavailable in WK-210 with Blue Display)."

so the WK-210 does not come with Step Up Lessons. since I will be using http://synthesiagame.com/ to learn to play I chose the WK-210, although I doubt I will ever use the voice pad feature but more likely then the Step Up Lessons

vote-for-1vote-against

nice look of casio keyboard, this maybe suitable for girls!

vote-for1vote-against

Can anyone confirm if the 210 does not have the Step-Up feature? I too want the 210 over the 200 for looks, but since I'm a beginner I may want this feature.

EDIT: I THINK IT MEANS THEYRE OUT OF THE WK-210 (BLUE) MODEL, NOT THAT IT DOES NOT HAVE THE FEATURE...
