Talk about your lump of coal.

It wasn't great, but I wouldn't call it a lump of coal

Too much story for a Metroid game, and the gameplay is average at best

Still worth way more that 4.99, though

The gameplay wasn't that bad, but the story was an insult to Samus throughout the whole game, but for $5 totally worth a shot.

@1298ty: I agree. Fine gameplay, horrible story.

I'd advise anyone that actually likes the character of Samus to stay away. It's just shameful, and possibly more scarring then the gameplay is worth.

fun game, just ignore the storyline...totally agree with everyone else on that. Getting one to throw in my old man's stocking, certainly more than 5$ in value here.

I actually liked the gameplay of this game. Very nostalgic to my highschool days playing Super Metroid.

I liked this game a lot. Definately worth well more than $5.

great game, the story picked up on the only metroid story to date more engaging than "oh thats what i gotta kill? ...meh ok..." I paid full price for this and don't regret it one bit.

I've been waiting for this to go under 20.00, so this is fantastic. I'm a fan of the whole Metroid series and love the GBA and Super Metroid formats the best. Here's to hoping this will be as great as I anticipate.

So is this comparable to Super Metroid or not? Because that's my favorite Metroid game.

vote-for1vote-against

@stark: No it's not. It takes place right after Super Metroid storyline-wise, but the controls are something between 2D and 3D. Like...you run 2D in a 3D area most of the time. The controls aren't that fine tuned because it uses the Wiimote only. I've noticed my shots 'seeking' to compensate for this. And you have to go into first person mode(a la Metroid Prime) to fire missles, but you can't move in that mode other then looking and firing.

Shinesparking is a lot of fun though, if memory serves...

@silentlegend: I agree. The graphics and "Let's dig deeper into Samus herself" storyline were good. I didn't finish it, but I'd put it into the "maybe I'll replay this one day" pile. The only bad thing was the voice acting. So, so terrible.

I found the storyline to be somewhat demeaning of Samus (e.g. Your former boss forbids you to use some weapons, and Samus obeys even when they would be useful). It made me feel like I was playing a scared girl, instead of a badass bounty hunter.

The gameplay itself was "OK", but not particularly similar to any of the other Metroids I've played. Definitely didn't get a Super Metroid vibe.

All that notwithstanding, $5 is a good price to give it a try for. Personal preferences differ. I'm sure this game has people that love it (somewhere).
