Check your local laws about lock pics and whether or not you're legally allowed to own them. In some states, they're considered 'tools with intent,' implying you own them specifically for the purpose of breaking the law. In some states, it's okay as long as you have a license. In some states, it's fine no matter what.

Also, in MOST places, using lock picks on a lock you don't own is considered the 'breaking' part of breaking and entering.

That said, they're handy to have if you know how to use them. Especially if you're of the sort to constantly lose little keys like desk and filing cabinet keys (which I can NEVER seem to find when I need them).
