I am already working overtime to make up the money I spent on the last thing I bought that I needed but didn't really need but nevertheless really really wanted. Have mercy, Woot!

@capguncowboy: That price for a refurb...hmmm :( -- Reg price new is $334.99 on Amazon. I'm torn, either the new price is completely overblown, or the refurb price might be decent if a hand held vacuum is really worth that much.

Have one of these & it works great.
but...
The battery life is pretty terrible. runs for about 8-10 minutes tops, then needs to recharge & can't be used while charging.

This is the exact model our US government uses to clean up hot zones. --John Casey on "Chuck"

@wilcononomous: Thank you!!!

Way too much (new or refurb) to not hold its charge past 8-10 min. I'm not spending that much just to pick-up cheerios. Reviews said it takes 3 hrs to fully charge.

Best price for a refurb on Amazon for $159.

The battery life wouldn't affect me as it would take all of 5 minutes to vacuum my tiny apartment anyway. According to one review, the charge time is about 3 hours, which is ridiculous considering the run time, but again, not a problem for me.

What I want to know is how this compares to the similar pet model. I have one cat, and about three cats worth of fur in my apartment at any given time. Has anyone used both, and done a comparison? Or used any two regular vs. pet Dysons and compared them?

I have a very similar but older model that I am very happy with. I use it in an unusual environment: I use it to vacuum up the clipped hair off a patient's skin prior to doing veterinary surgeries. I also have another cordless Dyson with a power brush that is particularly useful for cleaning hair off of non-slip grooming tables. I recently acquired their Digital Slim which is basically the power brush version with a long tube that converts it into a stick vac. They all work great. If you want to clean smooth surfaces and dust bunnies, this Moofi deal is great. If you want to do carpet or upholstery (with hair), you want a power brush. In any event, this Moofi deal will out-perform any of the "Dust-Buster" type vacs out there.

I have used DC25, all floors and pet. I only have kids, if you have a pet, go with the pet one for sure. With pretty much the same vacuum there is a noticable difference in picking up fibers/hair.

I want one of these to quick-clean cars/dining room carpet behind the kids, but will have to wait.

I have one of these, and I love it. I paid a lot more for it, but it was worth it. Still, not for everyone, even at this low price. However, if you need a handheld vacuum, this thing is awesome. I'd also recommend getting the hose attachment for it (which really should have been included)...

@mellielou: $334.99!?! The brand new price direct from Dyson is only $219.99 (free shipping).

this is a Lamborghini in vacuum industry. when I have it, it makes me look like a rich guy who has good taste. In fact, I'm a destitute guy, and if I buy it, I will become more destitute. and the most pathetic thing is,damn, I still wanna buy it.

Worth every penny!

Got one a few years ago as a wedding gift, can not live without it. Just as strong as our Dyson upright for those times when you don't need a whole lot of vacuum! Yes the battery life is about ten minutes but it is wide open the entire time. If you can't get the job done in ten minutes maybe it's time for a real vacuum instead of a hand held.

@igingi: Same deal... I got a B&D from wally world for $10 and still have it today and use frequently... this moofi deal is for all the dirty snobs - lol j/k people it's a joke - seriously this price point for a handheld vacuum is a joke.

@polarbehr: ok, you got it as a gift. We tend to love everything we got as a gift, especially if we know the face value is a lot.

Anyone know how well this would work with cat litter and the hair dust balls? I have dark wood floors and i have to clean up everyday...stairs too..

vote-for3vote-against

If you need to vaccum for more then 7-10 minutes, wouldn't you use a full sized vacuum? I'm thinking this would be perfect for the cat litter that ends up outside the box and the dust bunnies that collect in the corners thanks to our dog and cat. Although the price point still seems excessive.

@matthalbig: This would work perfectly for cat litter and hair dust balls! Real easy to clean too, just hold it over the trash can and release.

@brutherford: Perfect. Thanks! Now to convince the wife...

I bought a new one of these at Target for $219 a week ago, it is light years better than the various Dustbusters I've had over the years. The battery is lithium ion, so it has very aggressive discharge characteristics -- runs at full power until it's dead, and then it's completely done. So you don't get the feeble dwindling of power as the battery drains.

Note that this model is not really intended for continuous running, it's for spot cleaning. The trigger doesn't have an always-on lock, you point the nozzle at whatever you want to pick up, zap it with the trigger, and move on. Used that way, you can get a lot more than 10 minutes of "work" done with it before the battery is run down, since you're not wasting energy vacuuming clean stuff.

I'm very pleased with mine. If I hadn't already used it and gotten it dirty, I'd take it back to Target and buy this one in a heartbeat, refurb or not.

N 4 1, finally these guys are at a reasonable price!

Man, if only Woot! would feature the accessory kit for this guy (wink wink hint hint) http://www.dyson.com/store/accessoriesDetails.asp?accessory=ACC-TOOLKIT-HANDHELD&product=DC31-IRSYE

I own this model. $150 is what it went new at Target so $119 is not too bad. I got mine on clearance. It is a wonderful machine and I LOVE mine.

vote-for1vote-against

the DC35 is way better, but of course more expensive. These hand vacs are great for around the pool, no fear of dropping in an electrocuting yourself.

vote-for1vote-against

I have one of these and it's O.K., but totally not worth the price. I have a Dirt Devil electric hand held vac I bought new for about $30 that works just as well and it doesn't have to be recharged after 7 or 9 minutes of use.

I don't understand how this would help you enclose a star.

@stark: Can't speak to how this compares... BUT... I have the DC14 (pet) and WOW. If you have any space at all to clean and a cat that sheds - ESPECIALLY if you have carpet. Save up and get the regular pet vacuum first. Heaven forbid, but if anything happens to the cat - I can whip out the vacuum and knit two new ones. (She sheds a LOT.) Coworker, who can afford the high-end stuff, bought one. She used her OTHER vacuum first and thought the floors were clean. THEN she used her new Dyson pet... Her words "I almost barfed, that's how much fur that thing picked up." Get the pet vacuum first. I'm thinking about this thing for picking up litter. (I have the pet model without the "ball" so it doesn't move so well in the tiny bathroom. This is very tempting.)

vote-for2vote-against

I am weak-I clicked the button.

vote-for1vote-against

@singhg: Dyson All floors vs. pet are the same with one extra attachment in the pet versions, no other difference. I have a DC25 pet and virtually never use the extra attachment.

vote-for1vote-against

@tygress: I agree. I have an older "pet" model, but I do not use the extra attachment. (I tried it, but it was annoying. I got better results using just the hose or using the hose with the brush or crevice tool.) What I really love about the vacuum is that it is COMPLETELY washable. Everything can be taken apart and washed in the tub. Be sure to let it air dry thoroughly (a day or two) and it's good to go. I'd taken parts of it apart for washing before... but then I vacuumed up a lot of powdered sugar from a BROWN carpet when I was moving. It got up all the sugar, but I wanted to make sure the sugar was OUT of the vacuum. I used a dryer lint brush (like a bottle brush, but about 2' long), to clean out the hose. This is a very cool feature I haven't seen discussed, but I love it. Very handy.
