Butterfly in a Jar
Ever dreamed of keeping a butterfly in a jar forever? Now you can! The Butterfly in a Jar gift is like nothing you have ever seen. Unpackage the glass jar and activate the switch located inside the lid. No all you need to do is just tap the lid and watch the "butterfly" fly around in a surprisingly lifelike way.
Powered by three AAA batteries (supplied with the butterfly), the "My Butterfly" product is a unique feat of micro-electronics. Everytime you tap the glass bottle you can watch "My Butterfly" fly, flap and flutter.
Gently tap the jar once for instant action! One tap willl wake your butterfly up , two taps will make it flutter and three taps will make it flap around the glass bottle. The butterfly is also activated by ambient noise and music. There is no need to turn the "My Butterfly" off; batteries last in standby mode for months ready for a tap to awaken.
I own two of these, the yellow swallowtail and the monarch pictured here and I have to say, they are really, really cool. They also make a blue morpho and a pink morpho. The look and movement is very realistic. I gave away 10 as Christmas gifts and they were a big hit. Lowe's sells them for $15 if you can find them locally, but not all Lowe's carry them and many are sold out. My cats are crazy about them too.
meh, the real thing is free, even if they only last a day in the jar.
If the humane aspect doesn't appeal to you, perhaps the laziness factor will. Catching a butterfly every day requires, energy, effort and luck (not to mention cruelty and neglect). You don't need any of those for these butterflies.
yes, but when the batteries die out and are disposed of, they will poison the environment, killing gazillions of butterflies.
Rechargeables
normal price = NOT A DEAL
@shellyfish: rechargables? we don't have electricity here, we have to use fireflies in jars at night, and a handcrank to power this internet connections.
