The ASUS DRW-24B1ST is capable of reading and writing data on DVD±R/±RW, DVD-RAM formats. It is a power saving drive and allows you to permanently delete the data on rewritable discs. This provides you with flexibility and efficiency in terms of multimedia data storage and sharing.
E-Green The innovative drive E-Green Engine technology features an E-Green Mode that automatically closes drive applications when not in use to help conserve energy - helping the environment by decreasing CO2 emissions and reducing the depletion of trees.
E-Hammer E-Hammer allows you to permanently delete the data on writable disc (CD-R and DVD-R) formats. Once the data is deleted, it cannot be recovered or restored, and the optical drive will not be able to read the disc. This ensures data security, eliminates the hassle of scratching your old discs, and conforms with ASUS’ commitment to environmental protection.
This is not a 'deal'. Just the standard price, really. DVD burners haven't dropped in price from this 16-18 dollar range for several years now, for some reason.
Yes, this isn't a deal, except for the free shipping. It was featured at the top of Newegg's ad today because their theme is bestsellers, and it's their best selling item, apparently, with 2,440 five star reviews
These are rebranded Ihas*24b drives, which can be flashed to new firmware and used to burn XGD3 Xbox 360 games. I have this drive (but haven't used it for Xbox games), and it is really solid drive that produces nice burns.
@amosdudley: Actually, it is a deal. Usually retails anywhere you can find it for $22-$23 at the lowest, and this excludes in applicable taxes or shipping charges. So $4-$5 off is a nice 20-percent-ish discount at the least. Other drives are less expensive; they are also less liked than this one and draw less demand.
Thanks for the downvote, whomever. Did my detailed rebuttal to the first comment offend you?
dxdn is right, this is a deal. I paid ~$23 for this same drive a few months ago.
@dxdn: This particular drive routinely is offered at this price on Newegg and elsewhere. Sure, you can pay 23 at your computer store, but who actually buys components there anymore?
The only deal here is free shipping. If it was normally $24, newegg crosses out that price and instead puts in $18. However, here, the normal price is $18 and all the promo code is doing is giving you free shipping.
The free shipping is nice if you weren't lucky enough to pick up that free year of shoprunner offered a few months ago. However, free shipping isn't exactly a rare deal on this product offered from Newegg.
Also, this is a quality drive, but most people barely use these anymore considering most music and games are downloaded now. So as long as you get one that works, you should be good. I wouldn't worry too much about the brand on this unlike other PC parts, unless of course you actually do a lot of burning of DVDs and CDs.
I don't think this is a great deal.
Fry's has this for $5 after rebate (in-store).
UPS is supposed to deliver my Newegg-purchased drive today :-(
Free shipping w/ promo code EMCNENJ26, ends 5/7
