I have one of these, and if you use it with your iPod you get a horrible hum over the speakers/headsets.

@griz13: most of the time hum is not caused by the device but the cable or connection being used. If it is dirty or scratched it can cause a hum, also try spinning the connector in your ipod and see if it changes. if it does then you know its the cable and not the socket your using.

I can't find anywhere the current available from the USB ports for this one, most smartphones need more than the standard 500mA to have a positive charge rate when the screen is on for navigation etc. Most of the cheaper dual port units tend to have a total limit too, so even if one port will supply a higher current, they won't charge two phones at once.

@griz13 Does the hum change pitch with how far you have the gas pushed? If so, it isn't the cable, but it's the electronics in the cupholder/charger. (caused by electrical noise from your alternator making it to your iPod)

Hum, hmm? Well I suppose that's why it's so cheap. I've had a bunch of these types of things in my car and none have ever caused humming...

These things are all right if you're not concerned with EMI, i.e. using your iPod/mp3 player while plugged in. Also the output current capacity is not that great. If you use both of the USB ports to charge power hungry gadgets, it'll get very hot and may burn out. So be ware before you buy. However, for $5 it's not that bad of a deal.
