I'm too lazy to highlight, option click and google... How are the reviews?? I need to beef up my FreeNas..

@gilfilent: It's $60 for 2 TB. Even with mediocre reviews it would be worth it for the price. I have two hitachis in my rig right now and they run fine.

It's $59 after $10 mail in rebate. Still a good deal! In for 1!

@mrb I agree, esp at the 6Gbps. Might as well pick a few up :)

Meh... they are on sale at this price all the time.

Mail in Rebate = FAIL! If it was the advertised price without rebate, I would grab a couple. I need to add storage to my media server. I have 5 2 TB drives in it now.

Price with code = $69.99, price with mail in rebate = $59.99

Have a low rpm 2 TB Hitachi Deskstar as an internal backup drive. I love it. Just wanted to chime in and say ignore the people who say Hitachi Deskstars suck, are prone to failure, and call them "Death Stars".

They were failure prone and "Death Stars" back when IBM produced the line. Hitachi bought the line years ago and really turned them around. Great drives now.

Also, I buy from newegg a lot, and have never had a problem with the mail in rebates. I've filled out about 8 forms and gotten a rebate for each one the last 2 years, never a problem for me. Just make sure you pay attention to the postmark date.

@gilfilent: A mechanical hard drive can't even max out a SATA II 3Gb/s connection, it won't come close to utilizing the SATA III 6Gb/s, it's just a marketing scheme. Only some solid state drives benefit from a SATA III.

Just checked reviews and it looks like although this drive should be competing with slow, low-power drives, it mostly matches WD Caviar Black drives except in read access time.

Anyone know how many RPMs this drive is? It doesn't say...

According to their web sire, the RPMs are CoolSpin. Whatever the hell that means...

Edit: Actually look at the model names, the 5K series would imply 5400 and the 7K series 7200

I love my hitachi deskstar HDD despite it being made in China, will never buy seagate again

@katanaryda: Everything is made in china. Look at the iPhone. If you look a the labels in the back, it'll say made in china.
