But...will the dog actually drink from the spout like that? I'm not sure my dog would be game for drinking water straight out of the air like that. Maybe I'm wrong. Anybody have experience with one of these, or a similar product?

We have two mutts, and they have drunk from falling/squirting water eagerly in the past. I'd believe this would appeal to them.

I've had several dogs that loved to drink from a hose or a sprinkler, so I am hoping that they will like their own little fountain, too.

@blainekyle: haha! That's why the dog pictured is one of those super-smart herding breeds. (OT hint: don't get one unless you have several challenging "jobs" lined up in advance to keep the dog well-occupied.) In my experience, some dogs will readily drink a mid-air squirt from a water bottle, while others would apparently rather die of dehydration. I would expect similar results with this device.

BTW, I would also consider the effect of your particular garden hose on the potability of water.

I have one of those smart herding dogs, circling my wife around the kitchen right now, and herding her out to her car so she can safely get to her desk job. That's his morning job. My smart dog prefers toilet water though.

My danes love to drink from the hose and my dobbermans love to play in the water. This however will just be a toy for them. A fun toy, but a toy just the same.

@jolthammer: LOL! I have a supersmart herding dog, too. (Border collie, not an Aussie.) One lesson learned: don't try to jog with a herding dog. They don't seem to understand that you are running on purpose and are not in need of herding.

BTW, my supersmart dog is aging and ill. I just had to stop Wooting long enough to clean up my carpet. Urgh!

Not exactly a water fountain, but Airedales like this sprinkler.

My dogs love the sprinkler so i think this will work great. I just need to put the fountain on something otherwise i can just see having a crater in my yard. The dogs will most likely just stand on the fountain for way too long.

@jemarent: The write-up mentions that it is easy to move around (and even to place on your patio or driveway or another hard surface) in order to prevent the creation of a mudpit.

@ginawoot: Regarding the potability of hose water...also be aware of leaving the hose lying in the sun all day, water can get very hot!

Might get one of there for the coyotes, so they have something to drink after eating my neighbor's annoying chihuahua.
Anyone else think that chihuahua is annoying to spell?
I can make it simpler: Chiwawa. There, made the dog less annoying already.

@polysorbate: I knew someone who would say "Chi-HOO-A-HOO-A" and that's how I remember to spell it.Can I borrow your coyote for my neighbor's SIX Chihuahuas?

My wife got one of these for my dog. He drank from it when I pressed it by hand, but he couldn't figure it out. I waited about 15 minutes before trying it again, and after about 3-4 more times pressing it, the water-spraying mechanism failed. So, I would not recommend this product.

I used to have large mutts who loved stuff like this. Now, as a result of spousal allergies, I have little poodles who would only run away or bark at it.
