@danpalm: The Sansa users unite to UP VOTE this deal! Nice find, Mr. Palm.

Went through 3 of these this summer. They are susceptible to sweat and/or have firmware issues. Either the way the things eventually only turn on when you hook them up to the wall, after that they don't turn on at all. Really sucks...

there's a reason why there are so many sansa refurbs for sale out there, just like refurb vizios. something to think about. and sandisk isn't the one who is refurbing these because sandisk does not provide warranties for their sansa refurbs. i talked to sandisk customer service.

@hebetude: bummer sorry about your luck. I just sent mine through the washer and dryer and it still works!

vote-for10vote-against

I bought 3 refurbs clip+ about a year ago. they all get used often, and they all still work great. (except for the one I lost 2 weeks ago, but I'm sure it will turn up if I clean more thoroughly.)

vote-for5vote-against

I've been using my refurb Clip+ several times a day for the past year and a half with no complaints at all.

Maybe I just don't sweat as much as others.

vote-for5vote-against

I think if I sweat a lot I'd rather break a cheaper mp3 player instead of my many hundreds of dollars iPod and android phone.
My Sansa is my travel music player, don't want to lose it or break it (been strong over a year so far), but if I break it I'm out $30 instead of more.

Bought 6 Sandiscs mb3 players on Woot 5 years ago. . . THEY ALL WORK ! ! !

vote-for8vote-against

I know my Sansa has had issues with locking up on me in the past and/or not turning on. I know if I didn't have the sense to hit up Google I wouldn't have found out about the hard reset which has fixed every problem I've had with it. I think you just hold the power button for 15 seconds.

Would explain a lot of the refurbs to me.

Love my clip. Hate the user interface on it. But it is perfect for loading up a playlist and just playing it on shuffler at the gym. Had my refurb for years and still works great.

vote-for1vote-against

So I'm under the impression the Clip can record. However, my increasingly inebriated roommate is currently looking for his Clip because he promises me it doesn't. I'd rather trust the random masses regardless of him finding it or not. Has anyone used the record function? In say a lecture situation? And if so does it work reasonably well?

vote-for-3vote-against

@shakes54321: just checked mine. It doesn't have a mic.

vote-for2vote-against

@mnerd: if you hate the interface, rockbox it! I like my rockboxed one so much I'm currently considering if I should get a few more.

vote-for1vote-against

If I didn't already have one.

I still use my Creative Muvo v100 for runs and stuff, but the Clip+ does everything else.

vote-for3vote-against

There is new firmware available.

Sansa updater will give you the option to update upon connection

I bought the older refurb model from woot 3+ years ago. I live in FL and sweat like a gorilla cutting the grass,it gets thrown in the sand at the beach, and it even went for a swim in the pool twice and it still works great.

vote-for3vote-against

I have a couple of refurbed Clip+, and a bunch of refurbed Clips, and I LOVE them. The sound is great, they have so many more features than any iPaidTooMuch, and if something happens to them...so what? Music syncs easily with Media Monkey or WMP11 or the program of your choice (bite it, iTunes). I just load mine with playlists and enjoy the music. Great for the beach or the gym, and paired with a portable speaker like the Altec Lansing Orbit, you can have music anywhere. For $20, you won't be sorry. I suspect there will be a lot of these available since Sansa has a new "Clip Zip" out (featuring a color screen for those who want to see album art).

I've bought so many of the Clips and Clip+s. I use a couple for audiobooks, a couple to walk with, one for solely classical music, any number as gifts and, what-the-hell, spares to give away to those poor souls who've lost their more expensive players.

vote-for1vote-against

Had this type of Sansa for years now. It's really great; the only drawbacks are

1) No LOCK funtion
2) No time display

vote-for3vote-against

Also,

@shakes54321:
Despite not having a visible mic, it DOES have the ability to record.

vote-for3vote-against

@mikeburnfire: On my 2GB Clip+, holding the "Home" button for ~2 secs locks it (doing the same unlocks it). It's not in the manual, though....I think my daughter did it by accident one day. Try it out, it would make sense the same would work on a 4 GB.

vote-for1vote-against

@vincom2: Look at the back just above the top of the clip and you should find a small hole, that is the mic.

vote-for2vote-against

@mikeburnfire: It does have a lock function. Hold the home button for a few secs to lock, hold again for a few secs to unlock.

I've bought three of these. My fiance loves it. I put Rockbox on mine and can't recommend it enough. Takes a bit of a learning curve, but it's a great piece of opensource firmware.

vote-for2vote-against

I love my Clip. Picked this up for the FLAC and ogg support :)

For those who want a quick review, i've had this player for a year now:

Pros:
- Clip is very convenient when working out, and has never fallen off my waste (minus the times i've pulled the cord by accident).
- Price is very good
- Expandable storage is great, i'm rocking 12gb of music

Cons:
- Frequently has to "refresh media". I don't know if this has to do with the expandable media - but I usually have to plan on starting my mp3 player early so it will be ready 5 minutes later.
- Recent freeze problems when it is barely dropped. Make sure you know how to restart (Hold UP and power button for 20 seconds!).
- Too small. Lose it all the time, and with bigger size they could have had a better battery.
- Battery btw is a little sub-par, but not to bad.

Verdict: I recommend it. The cons aren't crippling, and I wanted a smaller mp3 player. If you are looking for either an mp3 to give to your parents or one to work out with, then this is perfect

I LOVE these... I have 6 now ?? I am an addict.. two of mine have been washed :( and they still work.. My fuse sits in my back pocket while I walk and jog.. no issues there either.. hardy little suckers for the price..

vote-for1vote-against

the sansa clip has a recorder. the sansa clip + must not! i hate the +. i don't see what is so great about it, except the expandable memory. but who cares, these little things can take a serious beating.... i have literally smashed it against a steel table countless times and thrown it across the room (it got really wet and i was angry) and it still turned on and worked. i love these a lot.

vote-for1vote-against

Timely, since I just broke my Clip+ trying to resolder a flaky headphone jack. (snapped the volume up switch off the board in process of opening it, and it got lost among the floor detritus) I just hope the new one's headphone jack doesn't flake out.

got mine in yesterday. Bought 2 they sent me 4. What a win 10 bucks each. :D
