I can't speak for this BT headset, but I have used Jawbone 1 & 2, and a couple of Motorolas. I was never satisfied with the sound quality and ended up getting a VXi BlueParrott Xpressway. (It's aweseome)
Bought two, will let you know how it goes...
$25 is not free! No thanks!
@stevec5000: When you get the $25 mail-in rebate, it becomes free (what a concept)
Bought 1, with 2% cash back through Chase, I'll make $0.49 to try it out.
OK, someone with more sense than me (means anyone) please explain the concept of rebates---
the basics-- I pay you for an item, and you mail me my money back--- so you and I lose the cost of postage and the hassle of having to do the mailing thing, and I am out my money temporarily?
I can see how, on a very large scale (say, instead of $25 it was $25,000,000) this makes some kind of sense--but not at this price
It works based on the odds that a large percentage of people will never bother to send in the rebate form. I try to send them in, but there have been many times that a price-after-rebate has triggered my purchase impulse. Then months later, I remember that I forgot to ever send in the info. It happens.
Sold out.
@wootenpoot: Like patrick said, many people neglect to ever send in the rebate, or mess it up somehow and are out of luck.
But even if everyone sent it back in, this particular rebate comes back as a $25 visa prepaid card. Which has it's own little tricks. For one Visa charges the vendor/business a commission every time a card is swiped. And, you can't purchase things with the card if the cost exceeds what you have on the card. So a lot of people will go out for lunch and spend $22 for example and have $3 remain on the card and never find an opportunity to spend the last $3 because most places don't accept cards for such small amounts. And after 6 months of having the card they start charging you a monthly fee until the credit on the card is all gone.
I recommend using these types of cards on gas. It's easy to hit the exact amount at the pumps rather than at stores.
@weez9er: Most rebates are just a scam to make you think you are getting a good deal while actually paying full price. I've had to file too many complaints with the Attorney General or get Channel 12's consumer advocate help me get the rebate to ever fall for that scam again.
Bought three earlier (max amount for rebates per household) and will let you know if I have to sacrifice a small child in order to get not one, but three rebates working for this
@wootenpoot: Others have made good points about how companies benefit from mail-in rebates, but I also think they do it to make money off of interest. If I give 'em my $25 now, they can put that into a high-interest account or even invest it in the stock market. I think this is why it takes them so long to honor your rebate. They want to keep your money as long as possible so they make as much money of it as possible. Sure, they may only earn $.10 off of my $25, but multiply that by thousands of customers and you have yourself some decent profit.
Most of the time, the rebate doesn't equal the total price of the item, so I'm not sure how they're making money here other than the points others have mentioned.
@meckmeck: Are you sure about the fact you can't use small balances on a VISA gift card? I've used plenty of gift cards (store-branded) that haven't been for the full amount of purchase - they swipe them, then ask me for an additional form of payment.
I have actually bought 3 different Samsung Bluetooth devices for a total of +$5. Meaning I got it back for buying them. One off of Woot and 2 off of One Sale a day. I think on the Woot one there was a guy who had worked at one of the places that process the rebates and discussed it in length. It will take a while to get your rebate but it will come as long as you fill it out COMPLETELY CORRECT. If not you don't get it. Simple as that. Some of them ask for all Caps and they can cancel you for that if you dont heed the instructions, so watch it. Good luck everyone. OH and btw the quality ain't bad but don't expect to be driving on the highway with the windows down and be able to hear very well. But normal use I have been happy.
