I bought the same thing over a year ago
A+ its a deal sounds great would buy again
Got this from Buy.com for the same price (free shipping, plus I had a %5 off coupon). Sound was good ... only problem was, the DVD player wouldn't actually play DVDs. Sent it back and am waiting on a replacement.
I bought this at Christmas from Target, for around the same price, to replace a 10 year old Pioneer unit. We have only 1 complaint, which has to do with the proprietary speaker connectors. For optimal placement in our living room, I need 1 of the rear speakers to be positioned 10 feet further away from where the speaker wire reaches. I don't want to splice in more wire, for fear of introducing interference, but I cannot find the connectors used anywhere to make an extension. Philips did make the various speaker wires different lengths, for positioning, and the one I need to extend is already around 25 feet. The problem is in going around doorways.
The unit has great sound, and the DVD and FM radio work fine.
I have a similar Philips unit. Paid $150 at Wally last year. I ended up splicing wire for the two rear speakers to make it long enough. Sounds fine, but on broadcast audio (over the air tv) it cuts out for fractions of a second every few minutes. Don't know if splicing has anything to do with that. Never cuts out while playing dvds, though. Not unhappy with it for the money, would recommend as a cheap solution. But wish I had Blu-ray now.
I got a Phillips DVD player from Woot... upconverts to 1080p, etc. The box didnt have the remote they claimed it came with. If they dont send you a remote you have to fax over the receipt to Phillips within 14 days of PURCHASE, not with in 14 days from when you received the box. It took longer than 14 days for the box to arrive and I had to argue with them to allow me to fax in my receipt, which of course I never did. The reason is a long story... but be careful with the remotes and Phillips...
The speaker connectors can be gotten around and not involve splicing wire into it. The one I had was a little older version (after I got mine, a few weeks later this one showed up in the store) and there are metal connectors inside the block connector. Just take a screwdriver and push the flanges that hold them in the connector in a little bit, give a little tug and out it comes. Just remember which end goes where on the connector and it's done.
wow!!! i just paid about 35$ more for a very similar system....wish i would have waited.
Just bought one. I like that this can play video from USB as my current all-in-one system will only play pictures from USB.
The sound has been cutting off on my current system, but that might be due to the splicing mentioned earlier. I have all the AV in the back due to using a projector, so I had to splice some wire into the two front speakers, even after mis-matching the colors to use the longer cables for the front.
Works great when its on. Turn the thing off and I have a slight beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep tone coming from the power supply area. I called the number on the manual and will be sending it to them for repair.
