Uh-Oh...a future deal. Must tattle...lol. It is a couple hours from going live.

Good deal. In my experience, these "Direct from Barnes & Noble" refurbished items are new, not refurbished...the only difference is that it doesn't come with the fancy retail box. B&N is just liquidating old stock while trying not to upset their retail partners by saying it is new. Even if it turns out to be a refurb, it still has the full one-year warranty just like a new one would have.

Either the 8gb or the 16gb is rootable by simply booting from the microsd card. no need to do anything to the device that would void the warranty. You can dl whatever version of Android and do it yourself, or buy microsd cards ready to go.

Fun Fun.

Woot has made my 4 year old's Christmas a bit more exciting.

@davemmanc: in for two-- my four and 6 year old who have to have the same thing or else there's gonna be a fight.

In for one. For this price I can finally start learning a thing or two about rooting without ruining something much more expensive.

@cleverett: Thanks, I was wondering about the quality. Price is tempting...

For what it's worth, this is the 2nd gen. "Nook Color" from B and N. Solidly built entry tablet.

Spec sheet here

Lady at the store was showing me this unit yesterday, and pitching the new Nook HD and HD+ as "greatly superior to the iPad Mini and Kindle Fire HD tablets in every way."

Looked up specs later:
Another trump card for the Nook HD is its display, packing an eye-popping 1440×900 resolution with a 243ppi density – making it the stand-out candidate in the 7-inch market.

They have the advantage on display pixel density...but it is only comparable to the iPad and Kindle HD in terms of processing power.

How about the 16 G on the 1 Sale a Day site? Anyone have trouble buying from them before? Thks!

I have an older nook which has 3G for downloading book purchases only. I see this one says wi fi. Do you need wi fi for book purchases, or are the book purchases still 3G?

@soldiergirl: Yes, I have bought a older model Nook off of 1 Sale a Day and never will again. You could definately tell it was used. I have never had this problem when purchasing direct from B&N.

Does anyone know of a link to a step by step, laymens terms way to root this? The only ones I can find seem to be in tech-speak.

@casee123: Thank you very much for the info!

@bmw66x: Hey, that's really cool. Thank you for that, I picked up the tablet now that I know it's as simple as that. The only thing that was keeping me waiting on a nexus 7 was tricky rooting methods on cheaper tablets.

I think I'll do the download option of the N2A and get myself a deal on a micro SD card with extra space. I found these:

@ronnysrv: Here is a helpful hint...DO NOT use anything but a Class 2 or 4. The class 10's DO NOT work better. There is something about the small bit reading that allows the boot card to work BETTER in the lower classes. I have made 100's of the cards by now for the Color and implore you to heed this warning.

@soldiergirl: The ones on 1saleaday are Barnes & Noble Certified with the same warranty. I order from them on a regular basis, including the current Nook Tablet.

@morriea: Interesting! I'll read into that further. Glad I didn't buy the card yet. I appreciate it!

Anyone get theirs yet? I see a few feedbacks being left for the Barnes & Noble ebay store for the auction that they received already.
