This is something, I am using this right now as I type this from AC, NJ me and my family love it. My son watchs his home DVR from his dorm. The only draw back is if your connection is at a hotel like I am now it can be slow some times and delayed but for the most part we got in over 3 hours of recorded DVR shows tonight

i wonder why there are so many refurbished sling boxes around?

@searchneverend: Returns form people who don't have the Internet speed to support them well enough or the know how to hook them up correctly. (That's my guess)

I'm in for one.

Slingbox is awesome. I just have the standard definition one, but it's nice to be able to watch my sports teams wherever I am.

A note, and a rather painful one - you CAN watch this on your smartphone/tablet...but the app costs $30. I've been putting off buying it for a while.

I had a Slingbox Pro until one of their updates bricked it and they refused to replace it!
Vulkano-Monsoon a much better deal.

FWIW, the slingplayer app was on sale for half price last week. I had delayed buying it for my android phone for awhile b/c I didn't want to drop $30 on something I consider to be a novelty. At $15 though, it was low enough to get me to pull the trigger. I have an older Slingbox Pro I use primarily to watch hometown sports. I grew up in Pittsburgh and now live in NC. Considering that the Pirates are NEVER on national TV, planting a slingbox in my parents house has worked out perfectly for me.

I almost got one of these a while back buy ended up going with a Vulcano because the wifi was built in. Unit is on the 3rd floor, router on the first and I usually get a very good stream rate.

I have been using mine for years! Absolutely love it. When I travel and stay overseas for months at a time, I never miss my shows that are on the DVR! Also have my DVD player hooked up to it and I can also watch my Netflix, Pandora as well because overseas they will not allow a non US IP address, so this works out well. Of course, you do need very high internet speeds, but it's worth it. Also my kid uses it while away at college, I did not want to pay another comcast, dish or whatever bill. It has paid for itself time and again! I'd get two, but only have one TV!

@squirrelhunter70: And $60 if you buy both the iPad and iPhone versions...they didn't make them the same App...yet you will notice dish Network remote access which is basically the same thing is Free for dish Subscribers...

My first thought when I saw the thumbnail for this was "that looks sort of like the paperweights in the fallout games".

@searchneverend: Many companies are manufacturing new items, then selling some as refurbs to get both markets, the price shoppers and the "quality" buyers....they also reduce some of the costs by giving a shorter warranty on the refurbs....it all averages out to bigger sales $$$ overall. This may be the case with these Sling boxes.

Mine bricked like a year ago, and I am loath to bother troubleshooting whether it's the box or the line, or the catcher.
