Very timely! My roommates are starting to get out of hand. Thanks woot!

You'll need something significantly stronger than this if you want to fend off an attacker for real

Just in time for Valentine's day. Perfect!

Now I can finally start up my own Tazer Ball league.

FYI, "Note: This item cannot ship to HI, MA, MI, NJ, NY, RI, WI, PA."

A little disappointed that I can't get this for my wife. Not sure how functional it would be for her, due to the size.

Side note: I'm pretty ignorant about magic lightning sticks, specifically how this thing works off a 9V battery. Does it have a big capacitor that charges up until you let it loose? I didn't notice a listed "max stun duration" or anything like that.

The same company sells a "one million volt" version that looks like a cell phone, but is a stun gun/LED flashlight. It's described as being able to stop someone in their tracks, so...what does 100,000 volts do? Just tick the off and feel like you pinched them? :( If I'm going to USE ONE on somebody, I'm not going want to just goose them. I want it to at least make them try to get AWAY from me, and not just still have hold of me and be MAD. :( Am I the only one that thinks that sounds like a bad idea? :(

in for one, just for a lil home protection - any firearms

Great ignitors for potato guns! Just sayin'.....

vote-for3vote-against

It's more like a hardcore BDSM play toy , lol !

I remember finding a stun gun my late father in law had, made in the 70's - 80's (not sure), and it
was rated at 1.5 million volts !!

The intimidation factor is there, until the other person pulls out their Glock.

vote-for4vote-against

apparently the volts don't really matter. It's the amps that get you

vote-for4vote-against

So..if its amps instead of voltage...is this gonna HURT someone, or be like when you were little, and your uncle told you to stick your tongue to the prongs on his 9 volt batteries, cause he needed to test them, to see if they worked...and you did....sadly...they were ALWAYS working batteries.... :{

The volts are not what really take the perp down. It helps cause pain and arching but not what takes them down. The police taser guns are only 50,000 to 75,000 volts but have a high Watts and Joules per pulse. This would hurt but not cause a lot of muscle contraction. There is many people stupid on you tube using this product on friends for our enjoyment. Though most people would not be shocked by that so it may scare any would be robber off. Its better then nothing.

Be sure the check the stun gun and taser laws for your state. Even though this is a low voltage stun gun, the laws I've seen haven't made a distinction between low-volt and high-volt models.

Will this work with my Mac?

vote-for2vote-against

@suttonabc: Nope. Stun guns aren't designed to HURT, they're designed to STUN. It works by disrupting electrical signals in the body.

vote-for5vote-against

@joshthegeek: It is better used on mac users.

I just enjoyed the Red Green reference.

@kelseyb90: I can't help but feel a little bit responsible for that. It made me smile too. :-)

@scooley01: I've yet to find one than does more than surprise me a bit.
The last batch we played with last year, a 1m & 1.5m volt, both rechargeable, one mediocre quality, one high quality, were really not any more impressive than the 100-150k volts out in the 80's. The old ones I could take for about 12 seconds before saying "uncle", the latest ones I could only take for a couple seconds- but the fact remains, it was like popping yourself on an electrical fence, or with a cattle prod. There was only pain, no "stun" at all.
Tasers work, but they go subcutaneously, their electrodes are usually further apart, and they are't $3 wholesale from China.

If anyone has a stun-gun that they think can take me, or my 100lb ex-wife down, lay your bet, and send me your stun gun. I've challenged a few vendors with fake vids on youtube, and no one has taken me up on the offer. For my part, I offer to pay 3x price of the stungun if it drops me, and to provide a real video.. of whatever happens.

I dont do this out of machismo, but because I think stunguns put people in dangerous situations. They give a false sense of security. You have to get close to your attacker, putting you in greater danger, and then you're gonna just piss them off.

For those that can't, or won't, get their CCW, I suggest pepper spray.
Even for those with a CCW, pepper spray is a great thing to have.

I've been hit with pepperspray and mace (by young family members fondling my keychain), and it's far nastier than any stun gun.

Stun guns are fun toys, good for scaring off dogs, or using the sound to correct a particularly stubborn dog - but they'd be the last thing I'd pick up as I went out the door into a dangerous situation. (the first would be my running shoes, second would one of pistols, third would be pepperspray, fourth would be my collapsible baton- you can score an awesome baton for under $5, and it'll do real damage)

vote-for1vote-against

everyone seems a bit paranoid... who is gonna be attacking you and why would you carry one of these or pepper spray unless you're using public transportation late at night or something

vote-for3vote-against

Perfect for your too friendly neighbor!

If you're close enough to me for me to be able to use this - you're close enough for me to kick/knee/hit you in the groin - man or woman, that sh*t hurts.

Also, here in NY, we aren't allowed to have this stuff. Why, you ask? I don't know. I'm sure it has something to do with our ridiculous tax rates.

@dcpotts: Careful, those ASP's (collapsible batons) are highly illegal in most states. Also, highly effective at shattering bones.

@scooley01: Stun guns like this one are actually designed to hurt, not stun. They operate based on pain compliance, not incapacitation. TASERs, on the other hand, do actually stun for the duration of the impulse.
Here's a nice explanation of the difference: http://www.beststungun.com/stun_guns_and_tasers.html
