$80+ at amazon and walmart; solid deal, but is this the widescreen edition? http://www.amazon.com/The-Lord-Rings-Fellowship-Extended/dp/B0026L7H20

Does anyone know the difference between the 2011 and 2012 version?

@rickbaron: One is the extended version and one is the non extended version? I think the non-extended version came out in 2010 though.

How is this a still considered a deal? I bought the extended blu-ray version about 8 months ago for $50. $90 on Amazon is just pure madness.

I bought these individually - bluray extended edition for $8 a piece at Target. Why is this such a great deal?

There have been great sale prices on these boxed sets. but they usually don't last too long. ALSO, BE WARNED! There have been MANY complaints about The Fellowship of the Ring being tinted green throughout the whole movie (only on the extended edition). Apparently it was done intentionally when creating the ext edition. Personally, I'm waiting until all the Hobbit movies come out to get EVERYTHING all together, and hopefully they'll realize by then that people don't like the tint on FOTR, and change it back.

@rickbaron: The 2012 version doesn't have the expired digital copy included.

@shiframeir: I've never heard of a pan & scan blu-ray...

@kenwoot: HOLY CRAP! Thanks for the link, but I am definitely not tech savvy enough to pull that off. I'll just cross my fingers and hope they'll fix it when all the Hobbits are done, and everything's together in a box set. In the meantime, I'll just enjoy my non extended edition blu rays.

@tigerfish313: I have the 2011 extended trilogy and didn't notice the green tint problem. I hadn't seen the other versions though.

@drez143: They are both extended versions. 2012 doesn't have digital copies.

$50 was a deal price, this price is close enough to deal price for someone to consider buying. $80-90 is the resting price when not on sale.
